What each step changes

Step 5, pushed, waiting on Heimdall's deploy: Odin's disk and Ragnarok back up all of
/Storage
.

Step 6: Heimdall backs up all of
/Storage
. Its Vorta repository is deleted only after that copy lands and passes a check.

Step 7: Ragnarok's Vorta history is replayed into its borgmatic repository, keeping the long history.

Step 8: the remaining Vorta repositories are deleted, each only once its history is replayed and checked.

Each host box holds that host's data and the repositories stored on its disk.

solid arrow: a backup that runs on a schedule. "SSH" means it crosses to another machine.

dotted arrow: Vorta's backups, stopped on 2026-10-27; those repositories are frozen.

thick arrow: history copied from one repository into another.

Cylinders are borg repositories; boxes are folders.

Every backup skips
/Storage/Files/Backups
, Steam game files, caches, and Torrents (it has a
.nobackup
marker).

Syncthing folders

All hosts keep them under
/Storage/Files/

.

Most folders go to Odin, Heimdall, Ragnarok and the phone. Projects and Frigate: Odin and Heimdall only. Torrents: Odin, Heimdall, Ragnarok.

Heimdall's own server backup does not cover
/Storage/Files
; Odin's backups are where those files get history.
