Help with Installing Docker on AlmaLinux/RockyLinux

Hi Docker Team,

I hope you're doing well! I’m in the process of installing Docker Engine on my Linux servers, which could either be AlmaLinux or RockyLinux. I came across four installation guides for similar Linux distributions(RHEL):

• RHEL installation guide
• rockylinux - Add the Docker repository
• almalinux - Virtualization
• CentOS installation guide

I assume all of these might work for AlmaLinux and RockyLinux as well, but I wanted to confirm with you if there’s an official recommendation or answer regarding this.

Additionally, I tried installing Docker using the script from https://get.docker.com/ with the following command:

sh install-docker.sh

However, I received the following error:

ERROR: Unsupported distribution 'almalinux'

Do you have any advice or alternative installation methods that could work for AlmaLinux and/or RockyLinux?

Workaround:

sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo=https://download.docker.com/linux/rhel/docker-ce.repo
sudo dnf install docker-ce 

There is a PR to properly support rockylinux and almalinux, but still not merged:

• rpm: add rockylinux and almalinux packaging#138
