From a1ee512a041967d4b54e348d0974592a23a8be75 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Valery Piashchynski Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2026 21:08:35 +0200 Subject: [PATCH 1/6] chore: overhaul the test suite Replace the per-test endure boilerplate with a Start helper plus StartExpectInitError and StartExpectServeError, and split the 797-line file by theme: relay modes, on_init behaviour and rejected configs. TestOnInitMetrics booted the on_init script that declares a collector over rpc and then asserted nothing, so a script that declared nothing passed. Scrape the metrics endpoint and require the collector is there. TestAppNoAppSectionInConfig loaded .rr-wrong-command.yaml, making it a duplicate of TestAppWrongCommand, and the .rr-no-app-section.yaml it was named after has a server section, so the name never matched either file. Drop the duplicate and the misnamed config. The remaining env config was unreferenced too. Point it at a worker that echoes an environment variable and assert both a plain value and one built through expansion reach the worker process. Registering http and prometheus is not needed by any of these configs, so the tests module no longer depends on them. --- tests/configs/.rr-env.yaml | 7 +- tests/configs/.rr-no-app-section.yaml | 12 - tests/errors_test.go | 47 ++ tests/go.mod | 32 +- tests/go.sum | 79 --- tests/helpers/rr.go | 165 ++++++ tests/oninit_test.go | 73 +++ tests/php_test_files/env.php | 20 + tests/plugin_env.go | 51 ++ tests/plugin_pipes.go | 2 - tests/plugin_pool_with_options.go | 1 - tests/plugin_sockets.go | 1 - tests/plugin_tcp.go | 1 - tests/relay_test.go | 51 ++ tests/server_plugin_test.go | 797 -------------------------- 15 files changed, 412 insertions(+), 927 deletions(-) delete mode 100644 tests/configs/.rr-no-app-section.yaml create mode 100644 tests/errors_test.go create mode 100644 tests/helpers/rr.go create mode 100644 tests/oninit_test.go create mode 100644 tests/php_test_files/env.php create mode 100644 tests/plugin_env.go create mode 100644 tests/relay_test.go delete mode 100644 tests/server_plugin_test.go diff --git a/tests/configs/.rr-env.yaml b/tests/configs/.rr-env.yaml index 6e86ef6..aac6ab5 100644 --- a/tests/configs/.rr-env.yaml +++ b/tests/configs/.rr-env.yaml @@ -1,12 +1,13 @@ version: '3' server: - command: "php php_test_files/client.php echo pipes" + command: "php php_test_files/client.php env pipes" relay: "pipes" relay_timeout: "20s" env: - - DATABASE_URL: "mysql://${MYSQL_USER}:${MYSQL_PASSWORD}@${MYSQL_HOST}:${MYSQL_PORT}/${MYSQL_DATABASE}?serverVersion=5.7" + - RR_PLAIN: "plain-value" + - RR_EXPANDED: "prefix-${RR_TEST_FROM_OS}-suffix" logs: mode: development - level: info + level: error diff --git a/tests/configs/.rr-no-app-section.yaml b/tests/configs/.rr-no-app-section.yaml deleted file mode 100644 index b95f11a..0000000 --- a/tests/configs/.rr-no-app-section.yaml +++ /dev/null @@ -1,12 +0,0 @@ -version: '3' - -server: - command: "php php_test_files/client.php echo pipes" - env: - - RR_CONFIG: "/some/place/on/the/C134" - - RR_CONFIG2: "C138" - relay: "pipes" - relay_timeout: "20s" -logs: - mode: development - level: debug diff --git a/tests/errors_test.go b/tests/errors_test.go new file mode 100644 index 0000000..1e863b4 --- /dev/null +++ b/tests/errors_test.go @@ -0,0 +1,47 @@ +package tests + +import ( + "testing" + + "tests/helpers" + + "github.com/roadrunner-server/server/v6" +) + +// The cases below all describe a broken configuration. It has been broken for a while; the test only booted the config and asserted nothing, so nobody saw it. Use the metrics sdk, which builds the protobuf the plugin expects, and poll the exporter for the collector rather than scraping once. Also give the config a runnable worker command so the log is not full of unrelated spawn failures. --- tests/configs/.rr-metrics-oninit.yaml | 2 +- tests/oninit_test.go | 21 +++++++++++-- tests/php_test_files/on-init-metrics.php | 40 +++++++++--------------- 3 files changed, 34 insertions(+), 29 deletions(-) diff --git a/tests/configs/.rr-metrics-oninit.yaml b/tests/configs/.rr-metrics-oninit.yaml index 88fddfe..7b25ea9 100644 --- a/tests/configs/.rr-metrics-oninit.yaml +++ b/tests/configs/.rr-metrics-oninit.yaml @@ -11,7 +11,7 @@ rpc: listen: tcp://127.0.0.1:6001 server: - command: "php foo" + command: "php php_test_files/client.php echo pipes" on_init: command: "php php_test_files/on-init-metrics.php" diff --git a/tests/oninit_test.go b/tests/oninit_test.go index 553be5c..465c929 100644 --- a/tests/oninit_test.go +++ b/tests/oninit_test.go @@ -3,7 +3,9 @@ package tests import ( "io" "net/http" + "strings" "testing" + "time" "tests/helpers" @@ -49,7 +51,8 @@ func TestOnInitTimeoutFailsServe(t *testing.T) { // TestOnInitDeclaresMetric drives the on_init script that registers a collector // over rpc, then scrapes the metrics endpoint.
