GitHub Opportunity Radar

Know whether a GitHub issue is worth your time before you start.

GitHub Opportunity Radar analyzes a public issue and produces an explainable pre-flight report covering repository activity, maintainer responsiveness, competition, issue clarity, contribution readiness, and personal skill fit.

Status: public beta with live, read-only analysis of public GitHub issues.

Product principles

  • Evidence before claims.
  • Explainable scores, never guarantees.
  • Read-only GitHub access in the MVP.
  • Secure and private by default.
  • Fast progressive results with graceful degradation.
  • Accessibility and testing are release requirements.

What it does

Paste a public GitHub issue URL and receive:

  • a pursue/review/skip recommendation;
  • component scores and confidence;
  • linked facts and clearly marked inferences;
  • warnings about inactivity, competition, or unclear scope;
  • a suggested communication plan.

Architecture

The current system is a TypeScript monorepo. The web app handles the public UI and server-side analysis; shared packages provide GitHub access, evidence analysis, scoring, persistence, and runtime configuration.

apps/web Web UI, API routes, and analysis orchestration
apps/worker    Reserved for background jobs
packages/* Domain, GitHub adapter, evidence analyzers, scoring, database, config
docs/ Product and engineering source of truth
tests/         Contract and end-to-end suites

See documentation index, product requirements, architecture, security, and market research.

Development status

The homepage sends a public GitHub Issue URL to POST /api/analyze. GitHub REST requests run only on the server and feed the existing activity, competition, responsiveness, and scoring packages.

Run live analysis locally

Requirements: Node.js 24.19.0 and pnpm 11.23.0. PostgreSQL is not required for anonymous live analysis; it is required for account persistence and database integration tests.

corepack enable
corepack prepare pnpm@11.23.0 --activate
pnpm install --frozen-lockfile
cp .env.example .env.local
pnpm dev

GITHUB_TOKEN is optional for public repositories and must remain server-side. Without it, GitHub's lower unauthenticated quota applies. Set it in .env.local to a read-only token when you need a higher quota; never commit that file or a real token. Then open http://localhost:3000 and test with:
