Add "freebuff -c" / "freebuff --continue" to resume an active session #1338
Sometimes the Freebuff CLI closes unexpectedly while a 1-hour session is still active, for example because of a crash, terminal closing, or an update.
Proposed solution
It would be really useful to have a way to continue that session instead of wasting the remaining time.
Both of these should work:
freebuff -c
freebuff --continue
They should resume the most recently active session if it hasn't expired or been explicitly ended, including its existing conversation/state and remaining session time.
If there is no active session to resume, Freebuff should clearly tell the user that there is nothing to continue.
Benefit
This would prevent users from losing the rest of their session just because the CLI happened to close or restart.
I completely agree with you and think this should definitely be implemented, but just passing a temp work around suggestion, you could have the freebuff desktop as an alternative for now till thats implemented as the desktop version already supports this
freebuff -c now works (added the -c short alias to the existing --continue).
When a resume is requested but there is no active session to resume (already expired, explicitly ended, or never started), the landing screen now clearly says there is nothing to continue instead of silently starting fresh.
Resume itself reuses the existing session-infra: on launch the probe auto-takes over the server seat when the prior local process is dead (the crash / terminal-closed / update cases), which preserves the server session and its remaining time, while --continue restores the previous conversation state. If the seat is held by a live process, the existing Take over confirmation is shown rather than silently superseding it.

Implemented in #1346.
What this does:
freebuff -cnow works (added the-cshort alias to the existing--continue).--continuerestores the previous conversation state. If the seat is held by a live process, the existingTake overconfirmation is shown rather than silently superseding it.codebuff-team commentedon Oct 12, 2026
Marking this stale - there has been no activity here for 29 days. It will close in 7 days unless someone comments.
This is backlog upkeep, not a verdict on the issue. A single comment keeps it open, and anything closed this way can be reopened.

Commenting to keep this open
