Closes #367
Closes #149
Closes #323
Closes #357
Closes #358

Design notes (deviations from #367, agreed during implementation):

  • Titles store 8-character UUID references (1a2b3c4d, g1a2b3c4d for groups);
full UUIDs remain the identity in metadata and HDF5.
  • Title references are resolved by UUID8 (as in DataLab-Web); ambiguous or
unresolved references are shown as plain text.
  • Group items show #gUUID8 identity (no more gsNNN).
  • Legacy sNNN title references from older workspaces are kept as plain text
    (no short-ID conversion).

Use canonical object UUIDs when formatting titles and adapting metadata and plotting objects.
Keep history actions and their model assertions aligned when object UUIDs are restored or remapped.
Rebuild cross-panel UUID mappings while loading history data into a non-empty workspace.
Refresh object views, plots and ROI editors after replaying history into an existing workspace.
Keep result identity and operation modes consistent when processing creates or reconnects derived objects.
Resolve mutations by UUID while retaining titles and processing metadata across JSON and NPZ transfers.
Keep painted title references and size hints aligned when labels wrap in narrow views.
Document the history reference settings, translations and the user-visible release note.
Resolve conflicts with welcome page, live preview and in-place recompute
changes; adapt live preview title patching to UUID-based references.
Use UUID8 prefixes for the live preview source list and metadata clipboard
result renaming, and titles (group-prefixed for Save to directory) in
dialog previews.

Generated titles now embed 8-character UUID references (g-prefixed for
groups) instead of full UUIDs, so raw titles are readable everywhere.
Tree items show their own #UUID8 identity; short-ID links and legacy
sNNN/gNNN remapping are removed; HDF5 imports remap colliding UUID8
references.

Resolve conflicts with bulk object insertion and plugin SDK changes; keep
UUID8 title references (no short-ID title rewriting) and HDF5 UUID remapping.
@ThomasMalletCodra ThomasMalletCodra self-assigned this Oct 14, 2026
In source-title mode, references are resolved recursively (cycle-safe),
including in tree links and "Add object title to plot" annotations.
Refresh only shown plot items when title settings change so the plot
title no longer disappears.

Titles now hold stable UUID8 references (#380): the short-ID title rewriting
of this branch is dropped, while the fast path of object insertion (no
renumbering of existing objects) and the per-update index of title
references are kept. Provenance views name objects by their #UUID8
reference and rendered title.
