Description

@Whichbfj28

I hope there is an extension that can automatically use the large model AI (OpenAI、Gemini )summarizes the content of the article. And put it at the front of the article so that I can easily check if the summary is the content that interests me.

Yes. I have a search. however

    1. Not very useful
    2. Not meeting the requirements.

    Following options are possible:

    • develop a new extension that fits to your requirements
    • ask a developer of an existing extension to expand its features so it fits your requirements (developer are every friendly often and like it very much to get feedback)
    • find someone else who can develop that extension for you

That is why FreshRSS has extensions: customize FreshRSS how you want and need :)

I've implemented this feature request! 🎉

    Pull Request: #471

    What I Built

A new AI Summarizer extension that automatically generates AI summaries for RSS articles and displays them at the top of each article - exactly as requested.

    Key Features

    • ✅ OpenAI-compatible API support (OpenAI, Ollama, LocalAI, etc.)
    • ✅ Summaries displayed at the top of articles
    • ✅ Customizable prompts with placeholders
    • ✅ Multiple display styles (blockquote, info box, simple)
    • ✅ Smart caching (one API call per article)
    • ✅ Unread-only mode to save API costs
    • ✅ Search filters to control which articles get summarized
    • ✅ Works with local LLMs (Ollama) for privacy

    How It Works

    1. When you view an article, the extension checks if it should be summarized
    2. If no cached summary exists, it calls your configured LLM API
    3. The summary is prepended to the article content in your chosen style
    4. Future views use the cached summary (no additional API calls)

Example with Ollama (Local & Free)

    # Install Ollama
    curl -fsSL https://ollama.ai/install.sh | sh

    # Pull a model
    ollama pull llama3

    # Configure the extension
    API URL: http://localhost:11434/v1
    Model: llama3
    API Key: (leave empty)

The extension is ready to use and addresses all the requirements from this issue. Let me know if you have any questions!
