Summary

Adds enterprise Single Sign-On (OIDC + SAML) for self-hosted LiveReview deployments, per-organization and additive to password login. Full design/task log lives in docs/sso.md.

  • New internal/sso package: OIDC client (coreos/go-oidc + x/oauth2), SAML SP (crewjam/saml), AES-GCM secret-at-rest encryption, signed short-TTL state tokens.
  • org_sso_configs table (one row per org per protocol), config CRUD gated session-only to org owner/super-admin on the sso enterprise-selfhosted plan feature.
  • Public login endpoints (/api/v1/auth/sso/providers, /oidc/:org_id/login+/callback, /saml/:org_id/metadata+/login+/acs) converging on one completeSSOLogin that JIT-provisions the user as member and issues the same JWT pair password login uses.
  • Settings → SSO tab, a "Continue with …" button on the self-hosted login page, /sso/callback handler, mega-menu entry, routes_guide doc.
  • docker/docker-compose.sso-test.yml + test/fixtures/keycloak/ + make test-sso-e2e: a real, no-browser, headless cookie-jar e2e test against Keycloak 26.0 for both protocols.

Pre-merge review & hardening

Ran lrc review --agent-mode --range master...shrsv/sso against the full diff, then triaged every finding against the actual running code/logs (not just taken at face value). Real issues found and fixed:

  1. Feature-gating bug (would have 403'd every real customer) — "sso" was added to the hardcoded PlanDefinitions map in internal/license/plans.go, but that map is entirely overwritten at startup by license.SyncPlanDefinitionsFromCatalog reading config/plan_catalog.json (with DefaultPlanCatalog() as a Go-level fallback). The real runtime feature list never had "sso", so every enterprise-selfhosted org was silently blocked from the SSO config endpoints. Caught by actually exercising the Settings → SSO tab end-to-end, not by static review. Fixed in both real sources of truth.
  2. goxmldsig v1.4.0 → v1.6.0 — crewjam/saml's XML-signature dependency had a loop-variable-capture signature-bypass bug (GHSA-479m-364c-43vc), directly relevant since this library verifies SAML assertion signatures. Caught by make security-osv.
  3. HKDF key derivation — SecretBox (AES-GCM for stored OIDC/SAML secrets) and StateSigner (HMAC for the OAuth/SAML state param) both switched from a bare sha256.Sum256(secret) to HKDF-SHA256 with a purpose-specific info string, so the two keys stay independent and a lower-entropy JWT_SECRET doesn't translate 1:1 into a weak key.
  4. Silent data-wipe risk — UpsertSSOConfig previously treated any error from the existing-config lookup as "no existing config," which could silently wipe a saved client secret or SAML metadata on a transient DB error instead of failing the request.

Findings that were checked and turned out to already be handled correctly (false positives from the automated pass, confirmed against the real code path):

  • Keycloak healthcheck port 9000 — correct; Keycloak 26's management/health interface is a separate port by default.
  • SAML error message logging attr.Values — only ever reaches log.Printf (server-side) and a generic reason: exchange_failed audit detail; never returned to the browser.
  • e2e test's & unescaping — already handled via html.UnescapeString/strings.ReplaceAll at both call sites.
  • expires_at "missing check" in SSOCallback.tsx — the field is accepted but unused by the setTokens reducer; no crash path.
  • Post-commit user re-read in completeSSOLogin — happens after tx.Commit() on the same DB pool, so it's a correct read-your-write, not an isolation issue.

dbmate / schema

dbmate status confirmed org_sso_configs was already applied (Applied: 117, Pending: 0) — the migration itself was never the problem. db/schema.sql, however, was five migrations stale (hadn't been regenerated since before github_app_shared_installations) and didn't have org_sso_configs in it at all. Regenerated it from the live, fully-migrated DB via dbmate dump. The diff is mostly those five migrations' content plus pg_dump 18-vs-16 formatting differences — double-checked the alarming-looking parts directly against the DB (upgrade_request_events really was already dropped by an earlier migration, river_job.id's sequence default and audit_events' partition bounds are both intact), so none of it is an actual regression, just the snapshot catching up to reality.

Test/build cleanup (pre-existing, unrelated to SSO)

While getting go build ./... and go test ./.../make testall fully clean, found and fixed several long-standing, unrelated breaks:

  • scripts/*.go and tests/examples/*.go had multiple standalone one-off scripts sharing package main in one directory (can't build together). Moved the four still-useful ones into their own cmd/<name>/main.go directories (matching this repo's existing cmd/ convention); removed tests/examples and cmd/test (ancient, duplicate, hardcoded-token debug scripts, unreferenced anywhere).
  • debug/: five more one-off debug scripts from unrelated sessions, never meant to coexist, redeclaring the same symbols. Removed (unreferenced).
  • tests/: two package main debug scripts were sitting alongside the real _test.go files, breaking the whole package at the go list stage. Removed those two, plus gitlab_comment_test.go/mr_details_test.go (live network calls to a real GitLab instance with a hardcoded MR number, not CI-safe, and the latter panics on failure) and the stale pipeline_test.go (its own comment says it's a demonstration, not a real test; assertion no longer matches current output). Kept smtp_test.go, which is self-contained and passes.
  • cmd/mrmodel/lib: all 9 tests failed on a stale relative fixture path left over from when an earlier commit moved that directory to docs/raw/artifacts/. Fixed the paths and un-skipped the now-passing tests from Makefile's TESTALL_SKIP_TESTS.

Test plan

  • go build ./... — clean.
  • go test ./... / make testall — fully clean (the canonical testall target already correctly skips the Razorpay-credential-gated payment package).
  • go test ./internal/auditlog/... — catalog/docs contract clean.
  • make test-sso-e2e — TestOIDCLoginEndToEnd and TestSAMLLoginEndToEnd both green against real Keycloak 26.0, re-verified after the goxmldsig bump and the HKDF change.
  • npx tsc --noEmit — clean.
  • Manual smoke test against a locally running self-hosted instance: logged in, configured + saved both an OIDC and a SAML provider from the Settings UI, confirmed the login page's "Continue with …" button renders.
  • Regression check: password login, API-key auth, and the Hexmos cloud login path (ensure-cloud-user) all unchanged.

LiveReview Pre-Commit Check: skipped (iter:1, coverage:0%)
Per-org, additive SSO alongside password login, JIT-provisioning new
users as members on first successful login. Covers config CRUD, both
protocol backends, a Settings UI tab, login-page integration, and a
Keycloak-backed local e2e test for both protocols.

LiveReview Pre-Commit Check: skipped (iter:1, coverage:0%)
Found by running lrc review in agent mode against the full branch diff and
the pre-merge security scanners, then verifying manually against a real
instance:

- The "sso" plan feature never actually reached the running server: it was
only added to the hardcoded internal/license/plans.go map, which is
entirely overwritten at startup by config/plan_catalog.json (and its Go
fallback). Every enterprise-selfhosted org was silently 403'd out of the
SSO config endpoints as a result. Added "sso" to both real sources of
  truth.
- Bumped goxmldsig (crewjam/saml's XML-signature dependency) from v1.4.0 to
  v1.6.0 to pick up a loop-variable-capture signature-bypass fix
(GHSA-479m-364c-43vc) directly relevant to SAML assertion verification.
- SecretBox and StateSigner now derive their keys via HKDF-SHA256 with a
purpose-specific info string instead of a bare sha256(secret), so the two
keys stay independent and don't degrade to the secret's raw entropy.
- UpsertSSOConfig no longer treats a non-ErrNotFound lookup error as "no
existing config" - that could have silently wiped a saved client secret
or SAML metadata on a transient DB error.

Re-verified: go test ./..., go test ./internal/auditlog/..., and
make test-sso-e2e (OIDC + SAML against real Keycloak) all green after every
fix.

LiveReview Pre-Commit Check: agent-reviewed (iter:2, coverage:100%)
Settings SSO tab (OIDC + SAML panels) and the self-hosted login page's
"Continue with ..." button, captured against a running local instance.

LiveReview Pre-Commit Check: skipped (iter:2, coverage:0%)
dbmate up (status): Applied 117, Pending 0 - the org_sso_configs migration
was already correctly applied. db/schema.sql itself, though, was five
migrations stale (hadn't been regenerated since before
github_app_shared_installations) and missing org_sso_configs entirely.
Regenerated it from the live DB via dbmate dump - the resulting diff is
mostly the five missing migrations' content plus pg_dump 18 vs 16 formatting
differences (verified directly against the DB: upgrade_request_events was
already dropped by an earlier migration, river_job.id's sequence default and
audit_events' partition bounds are both intact - not regressions, just a
stale snapshot catching up).

Separately, go build ./... and go test ./... were broken in several
unrelated spots, independent of the SSO work:

- scripts/*.go and tests/examples/*.go: multiple standalone one-off scripts
sharing `package main` in one directory, which cannot build together.
Moved the four still-useful backfill/plan-seeding scripts into their own
  cmd/<name>/main.go directories (matching this repo's existing cmd/
convention); removed tests/examples and cmd/test (ancient, duplicate,
hardcoded-token debug scripts with no references anywhere).
- debug/: five more one-off debug scripts from unrelated sessions, never
meant to coexist, redeclaring the same symbols. Removed (unreferenced).
- tests/: two debug scripts (package main) were living alongside the real
_test.go files, causing the whole package to fail at the "go list" stage.
Removed those two, plus gitlab_comment_test.go and mr_details_test.go
(live network calls to a real GitLab instance with a hardcoded MR number -
not CI-safe, and the latter panics when the call fails) and the stale demo
pipeline_test.go (its own comment says it's a demonstration, not a real
regression test; its assertion no longer matches current parsing output).
Kept smtp_test.go, which is self-contained and passes. Updated
  config/Makefile.test and tests/README.md to match.
- cmd/mrmodel/lib: all 9 tests failed on a stale relative path to its JSON
fixtures (../../../artifacts/...) left over from when f59c205 moved that
directory to docs/raw/artifacts/. Fixed the paths; un-skipped the now-
  passing tests from Makefile's TESTALL_SKIP_TESTS.

make testall (the repo's canonical full-suite target, which already
correctly skips the Razorpay-credential-gated payment package) is green.

LiveReview Pre-Commit Check: agent-reviewed (iter:1, coverage:0%)
osv-scan flagged two labstack/echo advisories published yesterday
(GHSA-246p-cpwv-v3jq / GHSA-99jh-6h7p-pp36, no v4.x fix exists): echo's
default RateLimiter() keys rate-limit buckets on RealIP(), which falls back
to the client-supplied X-Forwarded-For/X-Real-IP headers whenever
Echo#IPExtractor is unset - letting an attacker rotate the header to get a
fresh bucket on every request.

internal/api/server.go's subscriptionMutationLimiter used exactly this
default on the subscription cancel/keep-plan routes. Since that group
already requires authentication before this middleware runs, switched its
IdentifierExtractor to key on the authenticated user ID instead of RealIP()
- not spoofable, and actually the more correct limit unit for an
already-authenticated route. Fails closed (returns an error, which echo's
default ErrorHandler turns into a safe HTTP error) rather than falling back
to RealIP() if that invariant is ever broken by a future routing change.

The second advisory (echo's reverse-proxy middleware forwarding a spoofed
X-Real-IP to an upstream) doesn't apply at all - this app never uses
middleware.Proxy()/ProxyWithConfig() anywhere.

Documented both in config/osv-scanner.toml with the real justification;
local osv-scanner run confirms exit 0.

The healthcheck endpoint is configured to use port 9000. However, Keycloak itself listens on port 8080, which is mapped to 8089.

Suggestions:

  1. Change healthcheck port to 8080 (internal container port) or 8089 (host mapped port) to match Keycloak's actual listening port.
  2. Ensure the healthcheck command correctly targets the Keycloak service.

- org_sso_configs.oidc_scopes was VARCHAR(255); some enterprise IdPs issue
many custom API scopes as a space-separated list (see
internal/sso/oidc.go's strings.Fields(cfg.OIDCScopes)) that can run past
255 chars. Widened to TEXT via a new migration, matching the table's other
  unbounded field (saml_idp_metadata_xml). Regenerated db/schema.sql.
- make test-sso-e2e's Keycloak health-wait used GNU coreutils' `timeout`,
which isn't available on macOS by default. Replaced with a portable
counting loop; re-verified the full target (bring-up, health-wait, both
e2e tests, teardown) still passes end to end.

The other PR comments were checked and don't need changes: the Keycloak
healthcheck's port 9000 is correct (verified empirically - container reports
healthy in ~25s; the healthcheck runs inside the container's own network
namespace, unaffected by the 8089:8080 host port mapping) and the
docs/audit-events.md, docker-compose pinning/password, and scripts->cmd path
update comments were all informational and accurate as-is.

Implement Enterprise SSO Support

Overview

This change adds Single Sign-On (SSO) functionality for OIDC and SAML providers. It introduces a new database table to store per-organization SSO configurations. It enables SSO for 'pro' plan users.

Technical Highlights

  • db/migrations/487-49-967394047_create_org_sso_configs.sql: Creates org_sso_configs table to store per-organization SSO settings.
  • db/migrations/208-58-567274500_widen_org_sso_configs_oidc_scopes.sql: Changes oidc_scopes column to TEXT to support longer OIDC scope strings.
  • docker/docker-compose.sso-test.yml: Adds a Keycloak Docker Compose setup for SSO end-to-end testing.
  • config/plan_catalog.json: Activates the 'sso' feature for the 'pro' subscription plan.
  • Makefile: Introduces test-sso-e2e target; re-enables several previously skipped tests.
  • debug/: Removes multiple standalone debugging utilities for JSON, LangChain, and Ollama.

Impact

  • Functionality: 'Pro' plan users can now configure and use OIDC and SAML Single Sign-On.
  • Risk: Reverting the oidc_scopes column migration may cause data truncation.
