Whats the purpose of this PR?

  • Bug fix
  • New feature
  • Documentation update
  • Other, please explain

Describe it in more detail below:

This adds a Publications page to the documentation and the publication bot (_pubbot/) that keeps it up to date. It is the same bot as in JustRelax.jl, GeoParams.jl and JustPIC.jl, which was adapted from GPU4GEO (MIT license).

  • Scan (PubScan.yml): on the 1st and 15th of each month, the bot searches OpenAlex for papers from the last 18 months that name GeophysicalModelGenerator, cite the JOSS paper, or are by the developers. It opens a pull request that adds papers naming the package and lists the uncertain ones for review.
  • Add a publication (issue form and PubAdd.yml): collaborators paste DOIs, and the bot opens a pull request with the formatted entries.
  • Initial list: the page starts with nine papers from a full-history scan back to 2020, after manual review. seen_dois.txt records every paper that scan evaluated, so scheduled scans only check new papers.

OpenAlex covers GMG poorly before the JOSS paper (2024), so older papers will mostly need to be added with the issue form. The scan needs the repository secret OPENALEX_API_KEY (already added), and GitHub Actions must be allowed to create pull requests.
