[Feature]: plit PDF must ask for range. #981

Closed

Description

@muhammadfaraz800

What would you like Filee to do?

When select split pdf from donut it must ask the range of pages.
example:
PDF total pages 100
split PDF -> Range -> 4 to 10
Result New PDF with only pages from 4 to 10

Why / when would you use it?

In Donut while splitting the pdf. most useful thing

Ideas for how it could work

    Thanks for the idea, @muhammadfaraz800.

    You can do this today with a preset of your own:

    1. Settings → Presets, then duplicate Split PDF.
    2. In Pages, enter the range, for example 4-10 (several are fine too: 1-3,8,12-15).
    3. Turn One file per page off, so the pages stay together in one PDF.
    4. Give it a name and put it on the PDF donut.

    Dropping a PDF on it gives a new PDF with just those pages. With One file per page left on, you get each page of the range as its own file instead.

    What you're describing is a step further: asking for the range when you drop, so one slot works for any range. That's a fair request, so I'm keeping this open for it.

    so every time i have to open the app select the page range and then use the donut and do the split?

    I am a student and have many docs. like one pdf of some framework, a book and other things. when i have to upload it to Ai i want the specific section like chapter 1 from book (page 13 to 55) and pages 23 to 15 from framework document and changing the range again and again by opening the app and then spliting and then changing the range feels hectic

    pardon my english!

    That's why i am asking for something like when we use spliting option in the donust it ask for range or ask to split every page then it splits

    Today, yes: the range lives in the preset. A preset per range you use often avoids some of it, but not for one-off chapters like yours.

    So the plan is an "Ask every time" switch for the pages of Split PDF:

    • drop a PDF on the slot, and a small window shows how many pages it has;
    • type the range, e.g. 13-55 (or 1-3,8,12-15);
    • choose one PDF or one file per page, and it splits.

    I'll link the PR here when it's up. And your English is fine.

    @muhammadfaraz800 it's in: #1102. It ships in the next version.

    Choose pages: 13-55 of 812, One PDF or One file per page

    How it works

    • Drop a PDF on Split PDF. A small Choose pages window shows how many pages it has.
    • Type the range: 13-55, 1-3, 8, 12-15, or 100- for page 100 to the end.
    • Choose One PDF or One file per page, then press Enter. Esc cancels.
    • Drop a book and a framework PDF together and each gets its own window, so you can take pages 13-55 from one and 15-23 from the other in one go.
    • A range past the last page is shown in red, and the button stays off until it's fixed.

    Turning it on

    • New installs have it on for Split PDF.
    • If you already use Filee, open Settings → Presets → Split PDF and tick Ask every time under Pages. Any other PDF preset can use it too.
    • Your last choice of One PDF or One file per page is remembered for next time.
