Bump bundled Trivy from 0.58.1 to a measured current release #372
The Dockerfile pins aquasec/trivy:0.58.1 (src/DockerUpdateGuard/Dockerfile, line 4). The protection from #367 (-- before the Trivy scan target, decision record 0015) was measured on Trivy v0.76.1, because the v0.58.1 release archive answers HTTP 404.
Move the pin to v0.76.1, or the release current at the time, and check that the pinned image can still be pulled. Then re-run the #367 cases against the bundled binary with TRIVY_SERVER pointing at an unreachable server:
no --, target --config=x.y/z:latest: read as an option (config file loading error);
-- followed by each of --config=x.y/z:latest, --input=/tmp/x.tar:latest and -a/b:latest: treated as an image name, non-zero exit, no file read;
-- library/alpine:3.20: normal scan path.
This closes row 12 of the #367 plan. It touches Docker/build configuration, so it is a security area under AGENTS.md.
Tier:standard; security areas touched: container image and runtime user, external process execution, Docker/build configuration, dependency (Trivy CLI and server image), runtime environment.
Change: Dockerfile TRIVY_IMAGE moves to the digest of the v0.76.1 image index (aquasec/trivy@sha256:790fd66d1697395d8693d1acaa1ea702406a20f109b6fc7bac8db623eca6c06c); both compose Trivy servers move to aquasec/trivy:0.76.1; the image sets TRIVY_SKIP_VERSION_CHECK=true and TRIVY_DISABLE_TELEMETRY=true; area documents and records 0015, 0005 and new 0016 updated.
Criteria: AC1 pin and pull, AC2 binary, AC3 the Trivy scan target can begin with a dash #367 cases against the bundled binary, AC4 compose/server flags, AC5 no remaining 0.58.1 outside history, AC6 no call to check.trivy.dev (control run shows it, final run does not).
Decisions: Security's plan review found that v0.76.1 sends an update check with a host identifier to check.trivy.dev on every scan; resolved by the two image environment variables (record 0016). Challenge skipped: no production code.
Deviations from the plan: (1) the plan text still carries the early wording "contacts only the Trivy server and the registries"; the review corrected it in the shipped documents, since Trivy also contacts the Docker Engine socket first. (2) AC1 asked for tag plus digest on the Dockerfile default; SonarCloud rule docker:S8431 forbids both, so the default is digest-only with the version in a comment (same bytes).
skipped: plan declares no production or test code (Verification without tests)
