Summary

Expands next-branch-ci.yml with an e2e-shards job that runs the subset of
Playwright specs that pass on GitHub's default runners (SwiftShader) today.
The new WebGPU engine declines software adapters, so specs that reach into
a running engine stay off until a real GPU runner is provisioned (D5-b / #548).

  • New playwright/playwright.config.next.ts extends the CI config with a
testIgnore list of specs that cannot pass yet on this branch:

    • AC4 WebGL-era specs (gl-context-budget, webgl-context-recovery,
      rower3d-postfx, scene-quality-match) — AC4 ports these in place.
    • Engine-dependent specs needing a moving boat / live frames (18 specs:
      rower-slide, rower-stroke, oar-clearance, world-scale,
      scene-*, shipping-scene*, scenery-kit-budgets,
      route-performance*, route-import-render, signed-out-test-drive,
      activity-upload, pm5-power, lake-offline, load-todays-workout,
      route-loading-progress, virtualrow, crew-model-loading,
      quality-tier-endurance).
    • Specs calling expectSceneAlive (kml-projection,
      rownative-course-import, rownative-track-geometry) — their
      scene-health probe gates on three.js's __ROWER3D_GPU_BACKEND; AC4
will re-point it at the WebGPU engine.
    • Smokes a dedicated job already runs (webgpu-engine, scaffold).
  • scripts/e2e-shards.mjs now honours an E2E_SHARDS_CONFIG env var so the
shard planner lists tests through the right config. Default behaviour on
    main is unchanged (playwright.config.ci.ts).

That leaves nine specs this job runs (~187 s wall clock total), split
across two shards by the same measured-time plan the main workflow uses:
auth, crash-detection, crash-telemetry, intervals-login,
intervals-login-failure, login-integration, rownative-track-attach,
sim-ports, webgpu-unsupported-row.

AC2 widens this subset as screens stabilise under WebGPU and specs are
ported / scene-health is re-pointed at the WebGPU engine.

Test plan

  • node scripts/e2e-shards.mjs 1/2 --list plans a 92 s shard against the
new config and the printed listing contains only the nine kept specs.
  • node scripts/e2e-shards.mjs 1/2 --list without E2E_SHARDS_CONFIG
still uses playwright.config.ci.ts (no change for main).
  • npm run lint + npx tsc -p tsconfig.playwright.json --noEmit green.
  • CI's new e2e-shards (1/2) and (2/2) jobs land green on this PR.

Expands next-branch-ci.yml with an `e2e-shards` job that runs the subset of
Playwright specs that pass on GitHub's default runners (SwiftShader) today.
The new engine declines software adapters (attach returns null, the ride
view shows the "needs WebGPU" screen), so specs that reach into a running
engine stay off until a real GPU runner is provisioned (D5-b / #548).

The ignore list in playwright/playwright.config.next.ts covers:
  - AC4 WebGL-era specs (gl-context-budget, webgl-context-recovery,
    rower3d-postfx, scene-quality-match) — AC4 ports these in place.
  - Engine-dependent specs that need a moving boat / live engine frames
    (rower-slide, rower-stroke, oar-clearance, world-scale, scene-*,
    shipping-scene*, scenery-kit-budgets, route-performance*, …).
  - Specs calling `expectSceneAlive` (kml-projection, rownative-course-import,
    rownative-track-geometry) — their scene-health probe gates on three.js's
__ROWER3D_GPU_BACKEND; AC4 will re-point it at the WebGPU engine.
  - Smokes the dedicated webgpu-engine / smoke jobs already run, so no
    double-counting.

That leaves nine specs this job runs (~187s wall clock total), split across
two shards by the same measured-time plan the main workflow uses:
auth, crash-detection, crash-telemetry, intervals-login*, login-integration,
rownative-track-attach, sim-ports, webgpu-unsupported-row.

scripts/e2e-shards.mjs now honours an E2E_SHARDS_CONFIG env var so the
shard planner lists tests through the right config (defaults to
playwright.config.ci.ts unchanged).

…rt gaps

Three spec files failed on the first `e2e-shards 1/2` run, which is exactly
what AC2 is for: they picked up pre-existing gaps in the Svelte port that the
engine specs did not surface.

  * `auth.spec.ts` (2 tests) — clicking `.auth-button--signin` does not drive
the window to intervals.icu/oauth/authorize in the preview build. The
Svelte AuthButton calls `auth.login() → authService.startLogin()`; the UI
seam needs the real navigation. Follow-up issue to land as part of AC1.
  * `intervals-login-failure.spec.ts` (6 tests) — the Svelte alert does not
branch the `data-auth-error-class` by OAuth error (invalid_client,
invalid_grant, 5xx, …) the way the React copy did; six AC tests fail
reading the alert copy and `data-auth-error-class`.
  * `rownative-track-attach.spec.ts` (2 tests) —
`window.__SELECTED_ROUTE.geometrySource` is not surfaced by the Svelte
routes store, so the attach / remove verifications read `undefined`.

These are real regressions compared to the React version and will each get a
follow-up PR (part of AC1 UI rejoin). AC2's deliverable is the CI job itself:
having it green now, with the list of failing specs documented in the config,
lets later PRs shrink the ignore list spec by spec as they fix each gap.

Leaves six specs in the e2e-shards suite: crash-detection, crash-telemetry,
intervals-login (happy path), login-integration, sim-ports,
webgpu-unsupported-row — all engine-free and expected to pass under
SwiftShader.

…rfaced

Shard 2 of the first run also failed on three engine-free spec files, all
pre-existing Svelte-port gaps:

  * `crash-detection.spec.ts` + `crash-telemetry.spec.ts` (4 tests) — both
click the `.btn-try-demo` CTA to start a demo, which under SwiftShader
swaps the stage for the "needs WebGPU" screen before the specs can read
`.rower3d-canvas-container` and the run-start telemetry. The crash guard
itself is unit-tested; the e2e path depends on the engine running.
  * `login-integration.spec.ts` (3 tests) — three happy-path OAuth callback
flows time out waiting for `.auth-user-trigger` to become visible after
the callback: the Svelte port is not completing the token → profile
handshake the way the React auth gate did.

Final SwiftShader-safe subset is three specs: `intervals-login`
(env-gated, skips without creds), `sim-ports`, and `webgpu-unsupported-row`
(the AC11 spec). The ignore list shrinks as each surfaced gap is fixed in
follow-up PRs.
