Dev Engineer Review

  • Enables MiniMax-M3 serving on SM107 with NVRTC-generated 128-token paged FMHA kernels.
  • Allows supported 128-token paged prefill through FallbackFmha.
  • Enables SM107 NVFP4 sparse decode for MiniMax-M3.
  • Prevents the SM107 NVFP4-to-FP8 fallback for MiniMax-M3 MSA layers.
  • Native MSA prefill and Rubin example changes are out of scope and moved to PR #20629.
  • Verify NVRTC dispatch, cache handling, fallback behavior, and Rubin hardware compatibility.
  • Review finding counts are unavailable from the supplied evidence.

QA Engineer Review

  • Tests cover SM107 kernel selection, paged prefill admission, sparse decode support, KV-cache quantization, and MiniMax-M3 cache behavior.
  • Coverage includes supported-device checks, fallback rules, error paths, cached contexts, and KV-pool initialization.
  • No changed integration test-list files were supplied. CI or manual-QA registration cannot be confirmed.
  • Coverage verdict: needs follow-up because current SM107 hardware and CI results are not confirmed.

Per-File QA Perspective

  • cpp/tensorrt_llm/kernels/trtllmGenKernels/fmha/fmhaKernels.h: Selects NVRTC for supported SM107 128-token paged FMHA cases. Verify dtype and output conditions.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/sparse/minimax_m3/kernels/triton_sparse_decode.py: Enables SM107 NVFP4 sparse decode. Verify kernel compatibility.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/pyexecutor/model_loader.py: Preserves MiniMax-M3 MSA NVFP4 KV caches on SM107. Verify other configurations still use the FP8 fallback.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/fmha/fallback.py: Allows 128-token paged prefill on SM107. Verify other architectures remain rejected.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/sparse/minimax_m3/cache_manager.py: Zero-initializes KV-pool views by default. Verify the environment override and initialization cost.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_minimax_m3_sparse_attn_decode.py: Tests SM107 NVFP4 policy behavior. Test-list registration is not confirmed.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_msa_backend.py: Tests MSA cache handling, validation, mapping, and dispatch. Test-list registration is not confirmed.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_context_fmha_kernel_presence.py: Tests SM107 runtime-generated FMHA kernel availability. Test-list registration is not confirmed.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/test_model_config.py: Tests SM107 KV-cache quantization propagation. Test-list registration is not confirmed.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_fallback_fmha_extra_page_sizes.py: Tests architecture-specific paged-prefill admission and cached contexts. Test-list registration is not confirmed.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_minimax_m3_kv_pool_zero_init.py: Tests zero initialization for MiniMax-M3 KV pools. Test-list registration is not confirmed.

Description

MiniMax-M3 with an NVFP4 or FP8 KV cache does not serve on Rubin (sm_107) on main today: the NVFP4 cache is downgraded to FP8, the NVFP4 sparse decode rejects the device, and with Eagle3 the draft layers need paged FMHA at M3's 128-token pages. This PR adds:

  • NVFP4 KV target exemption: the sm_107 NVFP4 → FP8 KV fallback in validate_and_set_kv_cache_quant skips MiniMax-M3 MSA. Its sparse layers keep NVFP4 and its dense and draft layers stay FP8. Every other configuration still falls back to FP8.
  • SM107 sparse decode: the MiniMax-M3 Triton sparse decode admits (10, 7) for its NVFP4 path. The SM103-only shape tuning is unchanged.
  • KV-pool zero-init: MiniMax-M3 KV-pool views are always zero-initialized, so paged FMHA never reads uninitialized FP8 bytes in a page's masked tail.
  • 128-token-page FMHA on sm_107 via FlashInfer TRTLLM-Gen: the Eagle3 draft layers' paged context and generation steps at 128-token pages are served by FlashInfer TRTLLM-Gen, following [https://nvbugs/6946881][fix] Use FlashInfer TRTLLM-Gen FMHA on SM107 for extra KV page sizes #20676 by Yuxian Qiu, which landed on release/1.3; it is cherry-picked here for main, with Yuxian as the commit author.
    • The draft KV manager opts in to the {128} extra page size on sm_107.
    • At KV-manager setup, sm_107 fails fast with an actionable error if a layer needs that route but TLLM_FMHA_LIBS excludes flashinfer_trtllm_gen, instead of failing at the first prefill. Configurations whose layers all stay on SDPA are not affected.
    • M3's own dense layers keep SDPA on sm_107.
  • The earlier revision's NVRTC trtllm-gen 128-token-page kernels and the FallbackFmha sm_107 admission are removed. fmhaKernels.h, fallback.py and the kernel-presence test are back to main.

The deployment guide lists the Sm107a 128-token-page cubins and how to pre-populate FLASHINFER_CUBIN_DIR for offline nodes (FLASHINFER_NO_DOWNLOAD=1).

Native MSA prefill and the Rubin context-path optimizations are in #20629.

Test Coverage

All on Rubin (sm_107), built from source for 107-real, MiniMax-M3 NVFP4 at TP2 with the Eagle3 drafter:

  • Unit tests: 601 passed, 0 failed, including:
  • Offline: the oracle passes with FLASHINFER_NO_DOWNLOAD=1 and a pre-populated FLASHINFER_CUBIN_DIR. An offline trtllm-serve run fetched 0 cubins.
  • Serving: trtllm-serve with the NVFP4 KV cache and Eagle3: no tracebacks, the draft's 128-token-page steps served by FlashInfer, 0 fallback.
  • Accuracy, GSM8K (1319, greedy) vs the previous revision: 96.82% → 97.04%, McNemar p = 0.648.
  • Performance vs the previous revision (same node, OLD/NEW/NEW/OLD, CUDA graphs):
    • c8 TPOT 0.986x;
    • decode step bs1 0.995x and bs8 1.002x;
    • graph-replayed draft attention within +2.7 µs at ≤16K context (FP8 KV, batch 1 or 8, decode or 4-token verify), and 8-43 µs faster at 165K.

Walkthrough

The pull request adds SM107 support for selected MiniMax-M3 sparse decode and FlashInfer TRTLLM-Gen paths. It updates 128-token draft-page routing and KV pool initialization, adjusts NVFP4 fallback behavior, and adds coverage for these paths and native MSA prefill.

Changes

SM107 attention and MiniMax-M3 support

Layer / File(s) Summary
SM107 FMHA routing and dense attention selection
tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/fmha/flashinfer_trtllm_gen.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/models/modeling_minimaxm3.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_flashinfer_trtllm_gen_fmha.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_flashinfer_trtllm_gen_sm107_p128.py, tests/unittest/_torch/models/test_minimax_m3.py
FlashInfer TRTLLM-Gen is available on SM107 and serves manager-provided extra page sizes there. MiniMax-M3 keeps its existing dense attention path when the backend serves only extra page sizes. Tests cover backend support and P128 cached-context, generation, verification, and mixed-batch behavior.
MiniMax-M3 extra-page cache setup
tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/sparse/minimax_m3/cache_manager.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_minimax_m3_shared_draft_layers.py, docs/source/deployment-guide/deployment-guide-for-minimax-m3-on-trtllm.md
The cache manager requires the TRTLLM-Gen route for applicable 128-token draft pages. Tests cover separate managers, shared draft views, and setup conditions. Deployment guidance describes SM107 Eagle3 setup and offline kernel preparation.
MiniMax-M3 KV pool initialization
tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/sparse/minimax_m3/cache_manager.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_minimax_m3_kv_pool_zero_init.py
The cache manager zeroes its non-null K/V, block-scale, and index-K views by default. TRTLLM_M3_KV_POOL_ZERO_INIT=0 disables this initialization. A CUDA-gated test checks the allocated views.
SM107 NVFP4 sparse-attention eligibility
tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/sparse/minimax_m3/kernels/triton_sparse_decode.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/pyexecutor/model_loader.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_minimax_m3_sparse_attn_decode.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_msa_backend.py, tests/unittest/_torch/test_model_config.py
SM107 is added to the sparse decode capability checks. The SM107 NVFP4-to-FP8 fallback excludes MiniMax-M3 sparse attention configurations using MSA. Tests cover capability checks and global and per-layer quantization settings.
Native MSA prefill adapter coverage
tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/msa/test_msa_backend.py
Tests cover cumulative-length buffer reservation, virtual page views, native wrapper inputs, opt-in dispatch, validation errors, and CUDA output comparisons with packaged MSA prefill.

PR effort8 points — Extends existing MiniMax-M3 serving with hardware support and optional native prefill, without introducing a model architecture. Reviewing page mapping, phase boundaries, metadata allocation, and architecture-specific dispatch requires deep contract reasoning; incomplete adapter and external-patch visibility increases effort.
ImportanceImportant — The SM107 NVRTC branch changes kernel eligibility for paged context and generation, while native prefill introduces cache-view and mixed-batch length contracts. These are sensitive attention correctness and performance changes.

peihu-nv force-pushed the peihengh/m3-rubin-main-port-20261012 branch from 4b00ec1 to 88cb285 Compare October 20, 2026 11:16
Brings the branch up to main 6cb5a79. One test-only conflict in
tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_flashinfer_trtllm_gen_fmha.py: main's FP8
custom-mask assertion (NVIDIA#20387) is kept, and the NVIDIA#20676 cherry-pick's SM107 tests
(test_flashinfer_availability_by_sm, test_sm107_serves_only_extra_page_sizes) are
kept after it. NVIDIA#20676 is on release/1.3, not main, so they are not duplicates.

… zero the KV pools

Review follow-ups for the Rubin (SM107) MiniMax-M3 enablement:
- Zero the MiniMax-M3 KV pools at allocation unconditionally; drop the
  TRTLLM_M3_KV_POOL_ZERO_INIT switch.
- On SM107, the P128 setup check now only requires flashinfer_trtllm_gen to be
enabled in TLLM_FMHA_LIBS: its 128-token-page cubins ship with it.
- The model keeps SDPA for its dense layers by checking SM107 directly.
- The NVFP4 KV exemption reuses is_minimax_m3().
- Run the SM107 P128 FlashInfer oracle in the GR100 post-merge stage, tighten
a KeyError assertion and fix a list paragraph in the deployment guide.
