Native disaggregated KV transfers need to use each pool view's head geometry when one cache manager contains layers with different KV-head counts. Using one rank-wide count can select incorrect head slices or sender ranks.
Serialize optional per-view KV-head counts while retaining the legacy rank-wide fallback.
Keep target- and draft-owned layers in separate transfer views, including when they share a physical pool.
Use matched-view head counts for HND/NHD slicing, duplication factors, and sender election.
Reject incompatible view pairings or head geometry and disable the equal-split bounce path when per-view duplication makes it unsafe.
This PR is based on main, which includes the merged unified KV-cache foundation #20178. DFlash and DSpark cache-sharing integration remains in their separate PRs.
Test Coverage
Focused coverage in test_peer.py, test_extractor.py, and test_bounce.py checks per-view byte offsets, sender election, metadata compatibility, serialization, owner partitioning, and bounce safety. The existing l0_cpu.yml selection of unittest/disaggregated includes the CPU-marked tests.
Validation:
All applicable repository pre-commit checks passed.
68 tests passed in an isolated CPU source-loader harness using the real page, extractor, and peer modules. GPU/service imports were stubbed, and the manager partition and receiver bounce methods were loaded unchanged from source.
Standard pytest could not collect tests on the local machine because torch is unavailable. Full installed TensorRT/CUDA and integration validation remains for CI.

Dev Engineer Review
The supplied change summary describes per-view KV-head counts flowing from pool-view construction into attention matching and transfer routing. It also describes ownership-based view partitioning, per-view duplication factors, stricter view-match validation, and disabling fan-in bounce when any view pair duplicates heads.
The current repository output shows no working-tree changes, so these implementation details are based on the supplied change summary rather than a checked patch. Verify compatibility with older page tables and mixed-role layouts. Test execution results are unavailable.
QA Engineer Review
The changed tests cover per-view transfer byte ranges, sender election, missing head metadata, serialization and fallback, ownership partitioning, mixed-head errors, and fan-in bounce safety. test_extractor.py and test_bounce.py are listed in the A10 and H100 CI lists. test_peer.py was not found in the checked test lists. No test-list changes or test execution results were provided.
Coverage verdict: needs follow-up. The described unit tests cover key paths, but the available evidence does not establish end-to-end transfer coverage or test execution.

Port conflict resolutions (base = main 0829689, ours = agentx b7979ca + !10912):
- kv_cache_manager_v2.py: our joint_kv_cache_reuse kwarg and the PR's layer_specs kwarg land at the
same spot in _get_per_request_layer_tokens, get_cache_bytes_per_request and
get_cache_quota_per_request (5 hunks): keep both. The generic layer_configs loop moves under the
PR's `else:`; main's kv_pool_rebalance_config (NVIDIA#19077) is not on agentx and is dropped.
- _util.py: agentx's _per_manager_cache_cost has no tokens_per_block parameter (main-only); keep
the PR's unified layer_specs injection.
- dflash.py: keep agentx's windowed VANILLA arena (_ctx_base) branch; ctx_len_gen (PR) equals
self._ctx_len[slots].
- rank_info.py: drop main's bounded_replay_on_generation (not on agentx); keep num_draft_layers.
- tests: drop main-only imports (PyTorchModelEngine, KvCacheRetentionConfig).
!10912 stays intact: validate_block_attention_windows() is not re-added.

Squashed increment of draft PR NVIDIA#20709 at head 1703851 over NVIDIA#20486 at 714916d (both on main
0829689; the NVIDIA#20709 tree contains all of NVIDIA#20486), ported onto feat/musespark-open-agentx. Commits:
7a85a73 [None][feat] unify the standalone DSpark target and draft KV cache
d492b52 [None][feat] reshard unified target/draft KV by per-view attention heads
Port conflict resolutions (base = NVIDIA#20486 on main 0829689, ours = the NVIDIA#20486 port):
- kv_extractor.py: agentx lacks main's view_partition hook (NVIDIA#19727); add only kv_heads_for_layer
and the Callable import its annotation needs (Muse target and draft buffers differ in size, so
they never share a physical pool/view).
- kv_cache_manager_v2.py add_dummy_requests: keep agentx's stop_committing() for the dummy and size
it with the PR's _kv_alloc_extra_tokens.
- test_kvcm2_integration.py: keep agentx's DecoderRunner import and add the PR's tests only (main's
generation-block reuse tests, NVIDIA#19710, are not on agentx).

…indings
The ported NVIDIA#20178/NVIDIA#20486/NVIDIA#20709 Python assumes main's KV cache manager
bindings. Two pieces are not on agentx:
- Per-layer AttentionReusePolicy (main NVIDIA#19727 C++). The stack only ever uses
REQUIRED, which is what agentx does for every layer, so the reuse_policy
field, its AttentionLayerConfig argument and its place in the scratch and
pool-group keys are dropped. The one test that needs PRIVATE is skipped.
- BufferConfig.coalescing_group (the stack's own C++, which the agentx image
does not carry). Group 0 is what the prebuilt bindings do implicitly, so the
argument is passed only for nonzero (NVFP4) groups, which fail loudly unless
the bindings are rebuilt from this branch's cpp/.

Explanation
The title "[None][feat] Per View KV head transfer" follows the repository template (ticket/ID field, lowercase type tag, short summary). It names the main change: per-view KV-head geometry for native disaggregated KV transfers, which the raw summary and objectives confirm across peer.py, transfer.py, kv_extractor.py, page.py, and the tests. It does not cover every detail, such as the bounce-path safety change or the target/draft partitioning, but that is expected for a title.

Explanation
The description follows the template's structure with a Description section, a Test Coverage section, and a completed PR Checklist. The Description explains the problem (one rank-wide KV-head count can select wrong head slices or sender ranks) and the solution in four bullets. Test Coverage names the affected test files and reports validation results, including that full TensorRT/CUDA and integration validation remains for CI. The template's '@coderabbitai summary' line is absent, which is a minor gap and not a critical omission.

Add a FlashInfer metadata test for per-factor page spaces.
Line 1224 adds the layer KV factor to the key that groups layers into page-index spaces. A K-only layer and a K/V layer in the same pool with the same page-index scale now get separate spaces. The existing mixed-role test does not check this grouping. test_mixed_role_coalesced_pool_preserves_slot_stride checks pool membership, page-index scale, buffer strides, and slot addresses on KVCacheManagerV2. Its file does not reference FlashInferAttentionMetadata. If the KV factor is removed from the key, both layers share one index list. A K-only layer can then receive K/V slot IDs, and no test fails.
Add a test in tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_flashinfer_attention.py. Build a FlashInferAttentionMetadata with one K-only layer and one K/V layer in the same pool. Call prepare(). Assert that the two layers receive different entries in _vswa_layer_to_pool. Assert that each layer's get_paged_kv_indices_for_layer output matches its scaled slots.

map to different entries in _vswa_layer_to_pool and that each layer’s

Add a test for the per-view duplication check in _fanin_bounce_safe.
The new branch rejects equal-split bounce when only a per-view pair has a duplication factor other than 1. In that case overlap.duplicate_head_factor is 1. No test in this cohort sets view_duplicate_head_factors on a PeerOverlap. If the branch regresses, multi-writer bounce would split one region equally across writers that do not all send. The live writers would then overflow their slots.
Add a unit test near the existing _fanin_bounce_safe tests. Use PeerOverlap(duplicate_head_factor=1, view_duplicate_head_factors={(0, 0): (2, 1)}, ranks=[0, 1]). Assert that the function returns False. Assert that an empty dict returns True.
The getattr(overlap, "view_duplicate_head_factors", {}) fallback is unnecessary. PeerOverlap always defines the field.

Add a unit test near the existing _fanin_bounce_safe tests confirming it returns
False for PeerOverlap with duplicate_head_factor=1 and
view_duplicate_head_factors={(0, 0): (2, 1)}, and True when that mapping is
empty. In _fanin_bounce_safe, access PeerOverlap.view_duplicate_head_factors
directly instead of using getattr’s fallback.
Cover the new num_kv_heads recording and the mixed-head-count error with a test.
The builder now records num_kv_heads on views. It also raises ValueError when one view mixes layers with different per-rank head counts. No test in this cohort calls _build_pool_views_for_variant with kv_heads_for_layer. The diff does not show cases for the following:
A uniform count.
Mixed counts, which must raise.
Zero or None counts for a layer.
REPLICATED views, which must record None.
If the REPLICATED skip or the if heads filter regresses, the bad value reaches PoolView.num_kv_heads. The peer geometry check then fails or silently falls back to the rank-wide count. Suggested location: tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_kv_extractor*.py or test_peer.py, using a fake variant with coalesced buffers.

Assert that a rejected draft-layer peer is not cached.
The mismatch branch checks the ValueError but not the lookup. register runs its compatibility check before it writes the peer cache, so a rejected peer is not stored. Add the same KeyError check that test_peer_registrar_register_and_get uses for the bounded_replay_on_generation mismatch. This check guards the draft-layer branch against a change that writes the cache before validation.

Coverage summary: sufficient, with one optional assertion.
Added:test_peer_registrar_requires_matching_unified_draft_layers, with cases (0, 0), (1, 1), (1, 0) and (0, 1).
Covered: a count mismatch raises ValueError that names both counts. Matching counts register the peer, and get_peer_rank_info returns it.
Test list:tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml:163 lists unittest/disaggregated. The file runs in CI through that parent directory, so no new list entry is needed.
Gap: the mismatch branch does not check that the rejected peer is absent from the cache. The proposed assertion closes that gap.

Run the new peer-layout checks in the receiver pre-gate. Check the draft-count mismatch first.
Receiver._get_sender_info does not validate view-head geometry or num_draft_layers. It sends REGISTER_RANK_INFO, and dispatch_task can then send REQUEST_DATA. The sender rejects registration in its listener and only logs the exception. For a draft-count mismatch whose mapping succeeds, the receiver can therefore request a transfer from a peer that never registered it.
dispatch_task catches only PeerIncompatibleError around _get_sender_info. Its later get_peer_overlap calls are outside that handler. get_peer_overlap computes per-view duplication factors through _view_duplicate_head_factors, which calls get_pool_mapping; mapping ValueErrors therefore do not use the intended per-peer failure path.
Move the draft-layer comparison before _validate_view_head_geometry so the draft-layout diagnostic takes precedence. Expose one side-effect-free registrar method for these two checks and call it from _get_sender_info inside the existing try.

Make the allocated block width match what the worker computes, or reject the mismatch at startup.
get_draft_block_width uses DSparkWorker.block_width_for, which returns max_draft_len. The KV manager uses that width for shared-layer allocation headroom (_get_shared_draft_block_width). Lines 1231-1232 show that a drafter with _dspark_shift_label=False computes max_draft_len + 1 slots. A unified manager then reserves one position less than the drafter writes.
The docstring says _check_block_within_allocation catches this case. That check is torch._assert_async on CUDA tensors, so a failure is a device-side assert in the middle of serving. A device-side assert breaks the CUDA context and fails every in-flight request. It does not give a configuration error at startup.
Add a check in _lazy_init_ctx_buffers when _ctx_unified_cache is true. If self._compute_block_size > get_draft_block_width(self.spec_config), raise a clear error, or make the unifier keep a separate draft cache for such checkpoints.

Do not overwrite an explicit TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV=0.
Line 2573 sets the variable to "1" whenever _shared_draft_kv_blocker returns None. A user who sets TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV=0 to keep a separate draft cache loses that setting on the disaggregated_mpi_worker path. As a result, an operator cannot use this variable to work around a shared-cache problem.
The defaults also differ between launch paths. The per-worker trtllm-serve path, which the integration harness uses, shares draft KV only when the variable is "1". The MPI-worker path enables sharing automatically. Keep the user's value when it is set.

Update these tests for the per-view resharding rule.
_dflash_disagg_layouts_compatible now returns True for any non-NVFP4 pair that has the same K-only flag. Different KV-head counts are allowed. All three tests still assert the old rule, so they fail with the current code:
test_mismatched_draft_kv_heads_unify_only_in_aggregated_serving: BF16 with 8 and 4 heads under disaggregated serving now unifies, so the assertion on Line 101 fails.
test_layout_compares_rank_local_heads: 2 and 1 rank-local heads now unify, so the assertion on Line 129 fails.
test_attention_dp_changes_the_disagg_layout_decision: the is_disagg=True, attention_dp=True case now returns True, so the assertion on Line 148 fails.
Make the expected results match the new contract. Keep a negative case that the new rule still rejects:

Remove or rewrite the launcher TP and attention-DP rejection tests.
_shared_draft_kv_blocker in serve.py checks only that both sections set speculative_config and that each uses an eligible decoding type and backend. It has no check for tensor_parallel_size or enable_attention_dp, and the PR now allows these to differ. Both tests therefore fail:
test_dflash_with_different_tp_keeps_separate_cache: the spec has no attention_backend, so the launcher raises with the "attention_backend TRTLLM" message. That message does not match "same tensor_parallel_size and enable_attention_dp".
The mismatched_attention_dp case: both specs are eligible. The launcher reaches the patched split_world_comm and raises _StopLauncher, not click.UsageError.
Replace them with positive tests. Mismatched TP and attention-DP settings must reach _StopLauncher, and TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV must be "1".

Add is_dspark to the fake spec_dec_mode. test_per_layer_kv_heads_keep_separate_cache raises AttributeError.
For every parametrized case, _should_unify_dflash_kv_cache() calls _dflash_unify_blocker(). The per-layer KV-head layout makes _dflash_kv_layout() return None. The fallback then builds its info_once message with self._unified_drafter_name(). That method reads spec_dec_mode.is_dspark(), and the test's fake spec_dec_mode defines only is_dflash and is_external_drafter. Python evaluates the f-string before info_once runs, so the test fails with AttributeError in all four cases.
The disaggregated layout-fallback branch has the same _unified_drafter_name() call. That branch runs only when both layouts are non-None and incompatible, so this test does not reach it.

Under per-layer page tables, evicted SWA blocks stay BAD_PAGE_INDEX and drop out of _ctx_block_counts, while num_ctx still counts from position 0. With a drafter that uses one causal sliding window on every layer, _check_block_within_allocation looks like it would trap once the first block is evicted.
Can you confirm the unified path is safe for a windowed drafter, or should the blocker require full-attention draft layers?
Include the rank-wide peer duplication factor in the fan-in safety check.
For a receiver-side overlap of (duplicate_head_factor=1, peer_duplicate_head_factor=2), the sender-side overlap reverses the factors. AttentionPolicy.should_send can then suppress some sender ranks, while the receiver still allocates one equal-share slot for every expected rank. The equal-split bounce can therefore use incorrect writer sizes.
This gap is pre-existing in the merge base, but the current safety check still needs the guard and regression coverage.

Partition coalesced views by head count, including target-only views.
If two target-owned layers have different KV-head counts but equal-sized buffers, this method returns None for both. The page-table builder then puts them in one view and raises ValueError for mixed head counts. For example, two FP16 layers with (heads, head_dim) of (2, 64) and (1, 128) have equal-sized K buffers but cannot enter disaggregated transfer. Include the head count in the partition key when explicit layer specs are present. Add a target-only, mixed-head regression case in tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_extractor.py. This partitions by owner only when a draft layer exists, so target-only layers with different head geometry can still enter the same view. Two FP16 layers with (num_kv_heads, head_dim) of (2, 64) and (1, 128) have equal-sized K/V buffers and are coalesced together; this returns None for both, then the new layer_heads check in _build_pool_views_for_variant raises before the page table can be built. Could you include per-layer KV-head geometry in the partition key even for target-only managers, and cover this equal-byte mixed-head case? This is required for this PR.

* [None][fix] Bound DFlash's shared context by the allocation's extent
DFlash took the number of valid block-table entries as the pages a request
holds. On a unified cache with per-layer page tables (e.g. an FP8 target
with a BF16 drafter), a sliding-window draft layer's evicted pages stay
BAD_PAGE_INDEX in front of its live tail, so the count stopped at about one
window (66 blocks for window 2048, page 32) whatever the context length. The
decode-time allocation check then trapped once a context passed ~2.1K
tokens, and prefill skipped the drafter's context store for later chunks and
for prefix hits past the window.
Use the extent of the allocation instead, the last valid entry + 1. Reads
below the window are never issued and writes land in the live tail; for a
full-attention drafter, and on the cpp backend, the extent equals the count.

* [None][fix] Re-seed DFlash generation slots in CUDA-graph warmup
CUDA-graph warmup builds every batch from dummy requests whose ids repeat
across batches (0..bs-1), so a reused id keeps its drafter slot and the
previous batch's context length, which the replay after each capture
advances for good. A later batch can give the same id far fewer pages, and
on a unified KV cache the drafter's allocation check then trapped at server
start: during the advanced-sampling capture pass the filler rows reached
31..79 positions against a 24-position allocation.
Only warmup runs a CUDA-graph batch eagerly, so there re-seed each
generation row's slot from this batch's positions, as prepare() already
seeds a new request.

* [None][feat] MiniMax-M3.1 DSpark: keep the drafter's KV in the target's manager under disagg
On GB300 a disaggregated generation worker gets the target's prompt KV but
not the DSpark drafter's, which lives in a separate pool: the drafter
starts from an empty window at block 0 and acceptance collapses on long
prompts. Hosting the draft layers in the target's KVCacheManagerV2 lets
the transceiver move them with the target's pages.
- MiniMaxM3KVCacheManagerV2 hosts explicit draft layer specs: index-K
buffers follow the spec-built ones, dense target layers stay FP8,
size-only coalescing keeps the target pools, draft layers use the base
view.
- KvCacheCreator unifies a standalone DSpark drafter with such a manager
under disaggregated serving when the drafter reads the target's page
size. Agg keeps the separate pool paired with block reuse, and a model
that ships that pool's window (F0a) keeps it in disagg.
TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV=0 opts out.
- An NVFP4 target transfers with a BF16 draft held in pools of its own.
- A windowed draft lifecycle gets the hot-tier bytes of every admissible
sequence's window plus one context chunk, instead of the bytes-per-token
split that handed it a quarter of the KV cache.

* [None][feat] Reuse a unified DSpark drafter's KV only where its window is complete
With the drafter's layers in the target's KV cache manager, the draft
lifecycle's REQUIRED policy let the drafter's window constrain every
prefix match: a request branching off a shared prefix found no
committed window there and re-prefilled its whole prompt.
- A windowed drafter's layer specs are OPTIONAL. The target alone sets
the match, and a new cache's first resume selects the drafter's
layers where their window is complete (page-aligned matches only).
- Where the window is missing, prepare_context caps the claim so the
prefill writes everything the drafter reads (from L + 2 - W on): at
L + 1 - W, or one window before a branch point within W of the prompt
end, whose window the request then publishes. A partial match first
retries at its last full page.
- The commit gate for unstored drafter context, its unwritten-prefix
marks and branch-point publication cover a manager that hosts the
drafter's layers, not only a paired draft pool.
A disagg generation request needs no cap: the KV transfer requests an
unselected OPTIONAL group in full.

* [None][perf] MiniMax-M3.1 DSpark: copy only the unified drafter's block offsets per step
A hybrid NVFP4 MiniMax-M3 cache is pool-less: no target layer reads its
attention-op block offsets. With explicit draft layers it kept every
layer's pool, so each step converted the whole per-layer table (layers x
sequence slots x max_seq_len / tokens_per_block) on the device: about
3 ms per decode step at max_seq_len 1M on TP2.
Keep one attention-op pool, the first draft layer's, which is the only
one the unified drafter reads, and fill it from the draft lifecycle's
rows with the copy a separate draft pool uses.

* [None][fix] Allocate the whole block of a drafter that shares the target's KV cache
A unified DFlash/DSpark drafter appends its block after the request's
context, through the request's own pages. The manager sized every request
with num_extra_kv_tokens = K-1 beyond its history, but the DSpark
shift_label block is K wide (DFlash K+1). When the allocation ended on a
page boundary, at the prompt end or after a step that accepts all K+1
tokens, the block's last slot had no page: the drafter then truncated the
advertised context and its scratch overwrote the last context position in
the draft layers, silently.
When DRAFT-owner layers live in the manager, size each request beyond its
history by max(num_extra_kv_tokens, drafter block width) at every
allocation site and in the generation headroom. The creator passes the
checkpoint-resolved width (shift_label). Adapted from NVIDIA/TensorRT-LLM

NVIDIA#20664 (76c4cef); num_extra_kv_tokens keeps its position-side meaning.
* [None][fix] Fail at startup when TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV=1 cannot be honored
An explicit TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV=1 on a disaggregated worker whose
target and drafter cannot share one KV cache manager silently kept the
separate draft pool, whose KV is not transferred. Raise at KV cache
creation instead, as NVIDIA/TensorRT-LLM NVIDIA#20664's
_check_shared_draft_kv_request does.
disaggregated_mpi_worker now writes "auto" rather than "1" when both
sections pass its coarse checks, so its automatic choice can still fall
back where a worker's finer checks refuse; the creator shares under "1" and
"auto" alike. The unset default is unchanged.
Signed-off-by: Zheyu Fu <zheyuf@nvidia.com>
* [None][fix] Let disaggregated_mpi_worker share a DSpark drafter's KV
The launcher wrote TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV=0 for any drafter other than DFlash, and for any page
size other than 16, 32 or 64, so a MiniMax-M3.1 DSpark deployment started through it (128-token pages)
kept the separate draft pool, whose KV is not transferred.
Accept a standalone DSpark drafter with attention_backend unset, AUTO or TRTLLM, as NVIDIA/TensorRT-LLM
NVIDIA#20664 does, and leave its page size to each worker's KvCacheCreator: the launcher cannot know whether
the drafter reads the target's page. It writes "auto"; if the two sides still disagree, the peers'
draft-layer check fails loudly. An explicit TRTLLM_DISAGG_SHARED_DRAFT_KV=0 is now kept.

* [None][fix] Keep attention-DP dummy generation rows on DFlash's dummy slot
A generation row with the attention-DP dummy id must never inherit a real slot, because the C++ offset
copy maps placeholders to page 0: a slot that a context warmup stored under that id would let the
dummy row write its drafter K/V past its own pages, onto another request's page. As in
NVIDIA/TensorRT-LLM NVIDIA#20664, such rows now always take the dummy slot.

* [None][perf] DFlash: size a unified MiniMax-M3.1 drafter's context stores on the host
DFlash bounds each context store by the row's allocation, which it reads
back from the device unless the drafter's block-table rows are known to
be written in full. That was only recognized for a separate draft pool,
so with the unified drafter every context chunk waited for the target's
forward before the store was issued.
Let the KV cache manager say whether it rewrites copied rows in full,
and check the target manager's own table for a unified drafter. The
MiniMax-M3 manager's drafter-only pool is copied in full.

* [None][feat] KVCacheManagerV2: reuse an OPTIONAL group at a partial endpoint
An OPTIONAL lifecycle group was checked only at a page-aligned endpoint,
so a partial prefix match always left it incomplete. A unified DSpark
drafter then lost its window's partial page and the caller cut its claim
back to the last full page, recomputing up to a page per request.
Check an OPTIONAL group at any endpoint with the REQUIRED coverage rule:
the last page needs only the matched prefix. The first resume copies a
selected group's partial page into a private page, as for REQUIRED, and
counts it as a partial reuse. Partial snapshots now publish OPTIONAL
pages as well, so a continuation of a prompt that ended mid-page finds
them. A match whose partial page is missing still falls back to the
last full page.

* [None][fix] Give the block-table refresh test's stub the extent columns
The stock DFlashWorker._refresh_ctx_block_tables reads _ctx_block_cols since
the allocation-extent fix; the test's object.__new__ stub never set it.

Description
Native disaggregated KV transfers need to use each pool view's head geometry when one cache manager contains layers with different KV-head counts. Using one rank-wide count can select incorrect head slices or sender ranks.
