Summary

Add a composable DARR wrapper around KumoForecast, reusing its pretrained encoder and forecasting head. Direct KumoForecast behavior remains unchanged.

Description of the change

Fit historical window/continuation memory explicitly, retrieve cosine top-k neighbors, and blend their temperature-weighted continuations with the direct forecast. Preserve Kumo-TS defaults, frozen normalization, missing-continuation weighting, and autoregressive horizons up to 512 steps.

Accept numerical Tensor/TableTensor inputs, align named columns, batch memory construction and queries, and keep fitted memory movable but out of state_dict. Document the caller’s responsibility to exclude future observations; include API documentation and a runnable M4 example.

Ported from Kumo-TS at af74798bbf7d020d3298f545fb9be383560a18ce. No new dependencies, checkpoints, or license files.

Validation

H100 real-checkpoint comparisons against the pinned upstream implementation passed in float32 for 24-, 72-, 120-, and 512-step horizons; maximum hybrid-forecast absolute difference was below 8e-6. The runnable example passed.

An eight-series M4 hourly holdout smoke test excluded the final 72 observations from memory and query history. Default DARR MAE was 4.38 versus 1.43 for direct forecasting; this validates functionality, not an accuracy improvement or an official benchmark.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added retrieval-augmented forecasting that combines Kumo model forecasts with continuations from similar historical windows. Configure the balance between both sources, fit on reference data, and clear stored reference memory.
    • Added an example using hourly time-series data to generate forecasts and evaluate them against held-out observations.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance on configuring forecasts, fitting reference data, and preparing context for predictions, including supported history and forecast-horizon requirements.

The change adds DARR, a KumoForecast wrapper that stores encoded reference windows and uses their continuations alongside direct forecasts. It also exposes the encoding path, exports DARR, and adds tests, documentation, and an example.

Keep forecasts floating for integer-valued numerical TableTensor inputs.

An explicitly constructed TableTensor with an integer numerical block passes _as_table. The computation produces floating-point forecasts, but the return statement casts them to context.dtype. This truncates fractional forecasts. Preserve the query floating dtype, but do not cast non-floating numerical tables to that dtype.

Suggested fix

Extend the section title underline. The docs build fails.

The title "Retrieval-Augmented Forecasting" has 31 characters. The underline has 30. Docutils reports a short-underline warning. The CI command sphinx-build ... -W treats that warning as an error. This blocks the Documentation / make_html job.

Minor · Reorder named query columns before encoding. · darr.py:238-242

sdm/models/kumo/timeseries/forecast/darr.py:238-242
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Reorder named query columns before encoding.

A fitted (A, B) memory accepts a query ordered (B, A) because the set check ignores order. TableTensor.select_columns(columns) also preserves the query's existing order. The encoder therefore processes (B, A), while direct predictions and retrieved values are interpreted as fitted (A, B) output. This can swap forecast channels and can select incorrect retrieval neighbors.

Suggested fix
         if columns is not None:
             if set(x.numerical_columns) != set(columns):
raise ValueError("Context columns must match the reference")
- x = x.select_columns(columns)
+ indices = torch.tensor(

+ device=x.device,
+ )
+ x = TableTensor.from_tensor(

Update the query-column handling in the method containing this block to reorder
named numerical columns into the fitted order before encoding; the set check
alone does not enforce order, and select_columns preserves the query’s order.
Use the existing numerical-column names to derive the required ordering while
preserving the tensor’s device and column names.
