Device information
Device: Xiaomi Pad 6
Codename: pipa
ROM: Project Infinity-X 3.12
Android version: Android 16
Build date: 18 August 2026
Device maintainer: MufasaXz
First of all, thank you very much for continuing to maintain the Xiaomi Pad 6.
I know this is a fairly large report. Some items are bugs, some are optimization requests, and others are longer-term feature suggestions. Please feel free to split them into separate issues if that makes development and tracking easier.
The Xiaomi Pad 6 still has very capable hardware, and Infinity-X is currently one of the most interesting ways to keep the device modern and useful.
I also particularly appreciate the privacy-oriented features already included in Infinity-X, especially the sandbox-related work, as well as the recent addition of bypass charging.
- Intermittent screen wake / unlock problem
I occasionally experience a problem after locking the tablet.
When I press the power button again, the display sometimes does not wake or unlock correctly. I may have to lock and unlock the tablet several times before the display becomes usable again.
Expected behavior
A single press of the power button should reliably wake the display.
Possible areas to investigate
Display suspend/resume handling, Power HAL behavior, kernel power management, panel driver state and wake events on pipa.
- Volume panel layout and overlapping controls
The volume interface does not always look correctly adapted to the tablet display.
When changing the volume, the small arrow used to expand the panel can appear too close to the mute / notification controls. In some cases the controls look partially crowded or overlapping.
The icons and spacing could be slightly increased for tablet layouts.
Suggested improvement
Use tablet-specific dimensions, margins and icon scaling for the volume panel so that the expand arrow, mute control and notification controls remain clearly separated.
- Launcher layout breaks when rotating the tablet
There is an important launcher layout problem when switching between landscape and portrait orientation.
After rotating the tablet vertically, application icons can overlap the large clock, date and text area on the home screen.
I have screenshots showing this behavior.
It looks as though the launcher grid is not being recalculated correctly after the orientation change.
Expected behavior
Every orientation change should immediately recalculate:
App grid position
Widget position
Clock/date safe area
Margins
Icon spacing
Portrait and landscape breakpoints
Applications should never overlap the clock or date.
This may be related to Launcher3 tablet grid calculations, density handling or layout recomposition after rotation.
- Bottom taskbar / dock needs much better customization
The current bottom tablet bar is probably the part of the interface that feels the least polished to me.
I would really appreciate proper customization options.
Requested options
Completely hide the taskbar
Enable or disable it
Change its size
Change icon size
Change the number of applications
Reorder applications
Remove individual shortcuts
Remove or disable the Google/search shortcut
Choose between multiple taskbar styles
Use a Xiaomi / HyperOS-like tablet dock as an optional style
Restore the original default easily
Long-pressing an icon should also allow the user to remove or modify it where possible.
A good approach could be to provide a clean tablet-oriented default configuration, while allowing users to completely customize it afterward.
- Small UI stutters despite using the highest refresh rate
The Xiaomi Pad 6 is powerful enough that the interface should remain consistently smooth.
However, even with the display refresh rate configured at its maximum value, I sometimes notice small frame drops or micro-stutters.
They can appear while:
Scrolling
Navigating around the launcher
Opening and closing interface elements
Changing pages
Using animations
These are not huge freezes, but they are noticeable.
Areas worth checking
Frame pacing
SurfaceFlinger
Refresh-rate switching
Display compositor behavior
CPU scheduler
PowerHAL
Governor tuning
Thermal configuration
Animation timing
The objective should not be aggressive overclocking.
The objective should be consistent frame delivery and low latency while maintaining reasonable battery consumption and temperature.
- Quick Settings / Control Center horizontal scrolling stutters
When opening the notification / Quick Settings panel and swiping horizontally between pages containing Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, airplane mode and other controls, I sometimes notice a very small delay or stutter.
On this hardware, this interaction should normally be extremely smooth.
Possible areas to investigate
SystemUI rendering
Blur and transparency effects
Tile animations
Horizontal page transitions
Tablet scaling
GPU composition
Refresh-rate behavior while SystemUI is open
- Wi-Fi reconnect delay after disabling and enabling Wi-Fi
There appears to be a Wi-Fi reconnection issue.
After completely rebooting the tablet, Wi-Fi generally reconnects reasonably quickly.
However, if I simply disable Wi-Fi manually and then enable it again, it may take approximately 10 to 20 seconds before the tablet reconnects to the known network.
Expected behavior
When signal strength is good and the network is already saved, the tablet should normally reconnect within a few seconds.
Possible areas to investigate
Wi-Fi firmware
Qualcomm WLAN blobs
Driver state transitions
wpa_supplicant
Wi-Fi power-saving behavior
Network stack initialization
Regulatory initialization
Scanning delay after the Wi-Fi radio is re-enabled
- Safe charging and fast-charging optimization
Thank you for adding Bypass Charging in Infinity-X 3.12.
I would also appreciate verification that the Xiaomi Pad 6 consistently negotiates the correct charging profile supported by the device.
Sometimes charging feels slower than expected.
I am absolutely not requesting unsafe charging power or voltage above Xiaomi's hardware limits.
The request is simply to ensure that the ROM correctly uses the charging capabilities already supported by the hardware while respecting:
Battery temperature
Battery health
Charging controller limits
Thermal protection
USB-PD / Qualcomm charging negotiation where applicable
- Idle battery drain
Battery percentage sometimes appears to decrease relatively quickly even when I am barely using the tablet.
It would be useful to investigate idle consumption.
Areas worth checking
Deep sleep residency
Partial wakelocks
System services
Wi-Fi scanning
Bluetooth scanning
Background applications
CPU scheduler behavior
Google services activity
Kernel wakelocks
Thermal services
- Better built-in battery and background application monitoring
Infinity-X could provide a more powerful battery-management interface.
It would be very useful to quickly see:
Applications currently active in the background
Applications preventing deep sleep
Applications generating wakelocks
Background network activity
Recent battery usage
CPU-heavy applications
Applications automatically starting in the background
From the same interface, users could quickly restrict background execution or background network access.
This would make battery troubleshooting much easier.
- Performance profiles and adaptive CPU management
It could be useful to offer tablet-specific performance profiles.
For example:
Battery Saver
Balanced
Performance
Automatic / Adaptive
The automatic profile should intelligently adapt CPU and GPU behavior depending on load, temperature and battery state.
For advanced users, optional governor or CPU-frequency controls could also exist behind an advanced warning.
However, I would strongly prefer safe adaptive profiles over simply exposing unrestricted clock controls.
Sometimes the tablet also becomes warmer than expected while doing very little, so improved adaptive scheduling may help.
- Kernel, firmware and proprietary blob maintenance
Please continue keeping the pipa kernel, firmware and proprietary vendor components updated whenever newer stable Xiaomi / Qualcomm versions are compatible.
This is particularly important for:
Wi-Fi
Bluetooth
GPU
Audio
Power management
Charging
Display
Thermal management
Security-related components
If independent firmware/component updates can safely be delivered without reflashing the complete ROM, an updater mechanism could be interesting.
However, if kernel, vendor and firmware versions need to remain strictly synchronized, then keeping these components updated through normal Infinity-X OTA releases would be safer.
Stability should always take priority over blindly using the newest available component.
- Better root / pre-root integration
The root experience could also be clearer.
If the Xiaomi Pad 6 build intentionally includes a kernel-based root solution, users should not have to search Telegram or other third-party sources just to find the correct manager application.
In my case, I had to install another application from Telegram to properly manage the root functionality.
Previously, many users simply relied on Magisk, so the current implementation can be confusing.
Possible approach
Provide the official compatible manager as an optional component.
Or provide an installer shortcut that downloads the correct official manager.
Or include a dedicated Infinity-X root-management section explaining exactly which manager should be used.
It would also be excellent to allow the user to choose:
Root disabled
or
Root enabled
followed by a reboot if required.
Users who do not want root should be able to leave it disabled.
Users who intentionally want root should have a documented, secure and straightforward way to manage it.
- Advanced tablet multitasking and desktop features
The Xiaomi Pad 6 has enough CPU, GPU and screen space to provide a much stronger tablet productivity experience.
Samsung One UI / DeX is a useful example of the type of experience I mean.
I am not suggesting copying proprietary Samsung code.
I mean implementing similar concepts using AOSP-compatible or open-source solutions.
Useful improvements could include
Multiple resizable windows
Improved freeform windows
Window snapping
Improved split-screen
Floating applications
Drag-and-drop between applications
Better task switching
A proper desktop-style taskbar
Better keyboard support
Better mouse support
Better external display behavior
Better stylus integration
Easy movement of content between windows
Multiple applications visible simultaneously
This could transform the Xiaomi Pad 6 into a much stronger productivity device.
- Stylus-oriented functionality
If technically possible with the Xiaomi Pad 6 hardware and supported styluses, additional stylus functionality could be very useful.
For example:
Quick actions
Screenshot annotation
Handwriting shortcuts
Window control
Selection tools
Image/text drag-and-drop
Custom stylus button shortcuts where supported
These would complement the desktop and multitasking improvements very well.
- More modern tablet-oriented visual design
I would personally love an optional interface with more inspiration from modern Xiaomi MIUI / HyperOS tablet design.
Infinity-X should keep its own identity, of course.
The objective would simply be a more modern and tablet-oriented visual experience.
Customization possibilities
Icon sizes
Grid sizes
Widget spacing
Taskbar design
Control Center layouts
Notification layouts
Rounded corners
Animation styles
Blur intensity
Quick Settings size
Clock styles
Tablet-specific margins
Portrait/landscape layouts
The current AOSP-style interface works, but on an 11-inch tablet it can sometimes feel like an enlarged phone interface rather than something designed specifically around tablet ergonomics.
- Better default tablet configuration
Related to the previous point, I believe pipa should ship with stronger tablet-oriented defaults.
The following should be thoroughly validated at Xiaomi Pad 6 native resolution:
Launcher grid
Clock position
Icon spacing
Portrait orientation
Landscape orientation
Taskbar
Quick Settings
Volume panel
Notification panel
Keyboard behavior
Split-screen
Users could then customize everything afterward.
- Integrated privacy firewall
The sandbox/privacy work already included in Infinity-X is an excellent idea.
I care a lot about privacy, so a built-in application firewall would be an extremely valuable feature.
Ideally it would allow users to control network access per application without relying entirely on a third-party VPN-based firewall.
Possible controls
Allow / deny Wi-Fi
Allow / deny mobile network where applicable
Allow / deny background network access
Completely deny internet access
Optionally log connection attempts
Show which applications recently accessed the network
A firewall integrated directly into the operating system could become one of Infinity-X's strongest privacy features.
- Voice typing / keyboard occasionally disappears
Sometimes while using voice typing, the voice input interface suddenly disappears and the normal keyboard returns.
I have also occasionally seen behavior suggesting that the theme or interface component is restarting.
It is not constant, but it makes dictation less reliable.
This could be related to:
IME behavior
Theme engine
SystemUI
Google voice typing
Launcher/SystemUI memory management
If needed, I can capture a logcat immediately after the issue occurs.
- Safe custom boot animation support
A built-in boot animation customization feature would be very nice.
Users could import their own image or animation and the system could automatically create a backup of the original Infinity-X boot animation.
There should also be a one-click Restore default boot animation option.
- Optional custom boot logo / splash support
Changing the actual lower-level boot splash is more sensitive than changing the Android boot animation.
If it can be implemented safely on pipa, an advanced option could allow users to change it.
However, this should only exist with strong protection:
Automatic backup
Image validation
Resolution validation
Format validation
Recovery instructions
Restore-default function
Protection against flashing an invalid image
If modifying the splash partition creates unnecessary brick risk, then I would completely understand limiting customization to the Android boot animation only.
- Multiple simultaneous audio devices
If supported by Android's audio framework and the Xiaomi Pad 6 Bluetooth/audio hardware, it would be useful to support multiple simultaneous audio outputs.
For example:
Two Bluetooth headphones
Two Bluetooth speakers
Bluetooth plus another compatible audio output
This could be especially useful on a tablet for shared media consumption.
Obviously, this feature should only be offered where the hardware, Bluetooth codec and Android framework can support it reliably.
- Application optimization for tablet displays
Some applications still behave like phone applications even though the Xiaomi Pad 6 has a large display.
Any additional compatibility improvements for tablet mode would therefore be useful.
Examples include:
Better forced landscape compatibility
Improved window resizing
Per-app aspect-ratio options
Better full-screen controls
Per-app orientation control
Improved density handling
Better compatibility with older applications
- Better thermal behavior
Occasionally the tablet becomes noticeably warm even when I am not doing anything intensive.
I have no indication of a hardware fault.
It would therefore be useful to verify:
Background CPU activity
GPU idle state
Thermal HAL configuration
Governor behavior
Wi-Fi activity
Refresh-rate behavior
Background services
Deep-sleep state
The system should prioritize low-power states whenever the tablet is idle.
- System component update strategy
One longer-term idea would be the possibility of updating certain device-specific components independently from the complete ROM where Android's architecture safely allows it.
For example, if technically compatible:
Firmware packages
Wi-Fi firmware
Bluetooth firmware
Selected vendor components
Kernel updates
However, this should only be implemented if dependency checking can guarantee compatibility.
Otherwise, traditional complete OTA packages are safer.
Screenshots
I can provide screenshots demonstrating:
The portrait home-screen icon overlap with the clock/date area.
The landscape layout.
The current bottom taskbar/dock configuration.
I can also provide additional screenshots or screen recordings for any specific issue.
Logs and diagnostics
I understand that screenshots alone cannot diagnose Wi-Fi, battery, wake or performance problems.
I can provide whichever diagnostics are useful, for example:
Full Android bugreport
Logcat
Wi-Fi logs
Battery statistics
Thermal information
Kernel logs
dumpsys SurfaceFlinger
Frame statistics
Power-management information
Wake-lock information
Please tell me what would be the most useful data to collect for pipa.
Final note
I know this is a large number of requests and I absolutely do not expect everything to be implemented at once.
My main priorities would personally be:
Fixing the screen wake/unlock reliability.
Fixing portrait/landscape launcher layout and icon overlap.
Improving the taskbar/dock.
Fixing the Wi-Fi reconnection delay.
Improving general smoothness and Quick Settings animations.
Investigating idle battery consumption and unnecessary heating.
Improving tablet multitasking and productivity features.
Expanding privacy controls with a built-in firewall.
Making the overall tablet interface more modern and customizable.
Thank you again to the Project Infinity-X team and especially to MufasaXz for continuing to maintain the Xiaomi Pad 6.
Supporting an older device like this requires a substantial amount of work, and it is genuinely appreciated.
If development continues and I am financially able to do so, I would also be happy to support the work with a donation.
Thank you for your time and for keeping pipa alive.
