Hi @ArcaneIRE, I’d like to work on this issue. I have experience with frontend development and implementing theme toggles, and I’m happy to start with a basic accessible dark mode.
I’ve got the project fully running locally (venv + runserver and the full Docker setup with Postgres/Redis/MinIO/Task). Everything works, but the local DB is empty and I don’t have access to the Heroku pythonie app, so I can’t run task database:pull.
Before I start the dark-mode work, what’s the recommended way to get representative content locally?
– Should I just create a minimal dataset in Wagtail admin, or
– Is there a fixture / anonymised dump / standard sample data contributors usually use?
Happy to proceed either way, just want to follow the usual workflow.
Hi @ArcaneIRE,
Dark mode is implemented and working locally with the dummy data. #166
I’m also not fully sure about other third-party UI components that might be injected. If you can point me to the ones used in production, I’ll set them up locally and make sure the dark theme applies cleanly to those as well.
I've merged that now. Testing with the real data and third party integrations sounds like a bit of a headache, so given it's a low-risk change we'll just deploy it, and revert if something goes wrong :)

Awesome! That would be great!
Do you need any more information before getting started? I'd be happy to answer any questions or break the problem down a little more.
Otherwise, feel free to begin and myself or another python Ireland member will be happy to review your changes

Thank you so much for the opportunity. I’ll start setting up the project, and if I run into any issues along the way, I’ll reach out for your help.

Fair question! Hm, @matrixise would you have a suggestion here?
If not, I think a minimal dummy dataset might be the way to go
