Results were held until pytest_sessionfinish, then submitted sequentially with one-file-at-a-time attachment uploads. Extra fields were extracted and discarded.

Changes

  • Flush JSON batches during the run when batch_size is reached
  • Collect videos/traces after teardown, then upload with a thread pool
  • Serialize testCaseId, snippets, steps, console, and timestamps in to_dict
  • Restrict urllib3 retries to idempotent methods; stream multipart via files=

Tests

  • tests/test_models.py covers payload fields, truncation, and 25 results → 3 batch submits
  • pytest, black, and mypy pass

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Test results are submitted in configurable batches, with any remaining results sent at the end of a test session.
    • Result reports now include additional test details, timing, and console output, with long messages and output safely truncated.
    • Eligible attachments upload concurrently after their associated results are submitted.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Error results are reported with a consistent failed status.
    • Write requests are no longer automatically retried by the shared retry strategy; attachment uploads retry temporary server and connection errors, but stop on client errors.

Flush JSON results during the run, serialize the fields the API already accepts, restrict urllib3 retries to idempotent methods, and upload attachments concurrently after teardown.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Test results now include additional serialized fields and truncation. The plugin submits results in batches, then collects and uploads attachments concurrently. Attachment uploads stream files and use bounded retry delays.

Changes

Test result reporting and attachments

Layer / File(s) Summary
Test result serialization
src/qastudio_pytest/models.py, tests/test_models.py
Serialization maps ERROR to "failed", adds optional result fields, limits steps to 200, and truncates long text. Tests cover these fields, status mapping, and truncation.
Buffered result submission
src/qastudio_pytest/plugin.py, tests/test_models.py
The plugin buffers results and submits them in configured-size batches. It matches response IDs by title, then uses response order as a fallback. Session finish flushes remaining results.
Attachment collection and upload
src/qastudio_pytest/plugin.py, src/qastudio_pytest/api_client.py
The plugin collects attachments after result submission and uploads eligible files concurrently, with up to eight workers. The API client streams multipart file uploads and retries 5xx and request exceptions. It does not retry 4xx API errors.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 6dd27

Attachments can be attached to the wrong test result, and transient server errors can silently drop result batches. Fix the ID association and decide on retry handling before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 6dd27

Result identity and recovery handling can misassociate attachments or replay acknowledged submissions under specific response and failure conditions. The reporting destinations and credential authority remain unchanged, limiting the demonstrated scope. The deployed API’s correlation, authorization, and deduplication guarantees remain unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new title-first correlation can assign one response ID to multiple local results. For two tests sharing a title and an ordered response containing an untitled first entry and a matching titled second entry, the first test selects the second entry; the second test’s fallback selects that same already-used index. Both tests then upload attachments under the second result ID. The parent’s positional assignment kept these ordered entries distinct. This threatens attachment ownership and evidence integrity within the submitted batch; occurrence depends on response metadata that the unavailable API contract may constrain. Cross-tenant access is not established.
  • Medium · reliability · inferred: A flush clears pending results only after all batches finish. With silent mode disabled, a later batch failure leaves any successfully submitted prefix pending. The per-test hook catches the raised exception, and a subsequent test can trigger another flush that resends the acknowledged prefix. No client-side idempotency key or per-batch acknowledgement removal is present. The parent had ambiguous POST retry behavior, but not this per-test re-entry path. Duplicate persistence remains dependent on server deduplication; the introduced replay path compromises failure containment and result ownership.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated correlation failure is bounded to result IDs returned for a submitted batch and attachments collected for the local run. Diagnostic exports use the configured reporting destination and credential. Neither broader tenant exposure nor the credential’s maximum server-side authority can be established from the available client evidence.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — Colliding test titles combined with partially titled API responses can break the binding between local attachment provenance and remote result identity. This is a conditional integrity concern, not a demonstrated authentication bypass or independently exploitable cross-tenant attack.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Result and attachment requests retain fixed /results and /attachments routes under the configured base URL and the existing bearer credential. Uploads require a nonempty local result ID and explicitly include testResultId. These controls preserve the client’s destination and authority boundary, but do not verify server-side project, tenant, or result ownership enforcement.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — The HTTP adapter no longer retries POST, reducing one source of ambiguous repeated writes. Attachment uploads still manually retry timeout, connection, and server failures; such retry behavior predates this PR. Worker count is bounded, file handles close per attempt, and normal run finalization closes the client after attachment processing. Exactly-once server persistence is not established.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Use an immutable per-result correlation key echoed by the API, reject ambiguous ID mappings, and remove acknowledged batches from pending state individually. Define server-supported idempotency and recovery semantics before replaying uncertain submissions.
  • proposed — Document the newly effective diagnostic export fields and consider configurable secret redaction before serialization, especially for opt-in console output. Treat payload length limits as size controls rather than confidentiality controls.

Report all attachment upload errors.

When silent=False, the first failed future makes _handle_error raise and exits the loop. The executor still waits for the other uploads, but the code does not read or report their errors. Collect the errors and report them after consuming all futures.

When silent=False, the first failed future makes _handle_error raise and exits the loop.

Addressed: attachment uploads now collect every APIError, wait for the remaining futures, then report them together through _handle_error. Other exceptions are still logged and do not stop the rest of the uploads.
