im gonna merge this as a fast follow once the first cursor tracing stuff is documented. Should make the migration a bit easier |
Omit the Authorization header so Cursor can complete Braintrust OAuth when no API key is configured. This removes the plugin variable and breaks API-key authentication through the Marketplace plugin; users must migrate to OAuth or a manually configured MCP server.

Stephen Belanger (@Qard) no I'm holding off on this. Let me just close it for now, I will come and revisit later. |

Breaking change
This change removes the
BRAINTRUST_API_KEYplugin setting and theAuthorizationheader from the Marketplace plugin's Braintrust MCP entry. After upgrading, any API key previously saved in Cursor's plugin settings will no longer be used. Users must authorize Braintrust through Cursor OAuth.Cursor's plugin configuration does not document conditional headers, so this plugin cannot use the API key when present and omit the header when absent. Users who must continue using API-key auth need to replace the plugin-managed MCP entry with a manually configured MCP server that sends
Authorization: Bearer ….Cursor Cloud MCP settings are separate from the Marketplace plugin. Remove any configured
Authorizationheader from the Cloud server entry as well to use per-user OAuth there.Changes
