hows this related to the the apache repo?

I noticed that the couchbase/couchdb makes for much saner reading than the apache repo which seems to have turned into like 25 different inscrutably named micro repos. What is the relationship between the two code bases andor when did they diverge and why?

It is a fork of Apache CouchDB which happened years ago. It's now just one small piece of Couchbase and has not much to do with Apache CouchDB anymore. You can't use as a stand-alone thing.
