Diogo Gomes is an Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro, where he graduated top of his class in Computers and Telematics Engineering in 2003 and completed his PhD in 2009 on resource optimization for broadcast networks. With over two decades of experience in networking research and systems engineering, he has played a key role in numerous EU-funded projects, including IST-MOBY-DICK, IST-Daidalos, IST-Akogrimo, IST-C-MOBILE, ICT-C-CAST, ICT-Onelab2, H2020-5GinFIRE, and H2020-5GASP. His work spans across QoS, IP mobility, multicast/broadcast technologies, application enablement platforms, and network orchestration.
A strong believer in the power of Open Source, Diogo has consistently contributed to bridging academic research with real-world prototypes and operational demonstrators. His current research focuses on the intersection of AI, IoT, and 5G/6G technologies.
Diogo is a long-time advocate of the Open Source and Maker movements. He co-founded the University of Aveiro Linux User Group (GLUA) and actively contributes to projects such as Home Assistant.
Whether he's building a next-gen 6G lab setup, optimizing edge services with AI, or hacking on a DIY home automation project, Diogo is driven by curiosity, collaboration, and code.
