    In your future plan you wrote this but this is not necessary since there are dozens of vscode extensions that do exactly that or both (having a side panel and offering an editor)

    I personally downloaded your extension because it does not come with an editor but it would be cool if one could choose one

    @Mtothexmax thanks for the suggestion! Notes now opens a note the same way the Explorer does, with whichever editor VS Code is set to use for that file type. So if you install another Markdown editor and make it the default for Markdown files, Notes uses it too. To set it, open a Markdown file, run View: Reopen Editor With..., pick the editor and choose Configure default editor for '*.md'..., or set it in workbench.editorAssociations.

    This is in #101 and will be in the next release.
