Summary

Reconciles the Google Drive accuracy tracker with the current RustyNES v3.1.0 "Bellwether" release state, addressing Linear issue DOU-37.

Changes

Documentation Added

  • docs/accuracy-tracker-reconciliation-2026-10-10.md: Comprehensive reconciliation document comparing Drive tracker state (v2.1.1 from 2026-07-10) with current repository state (v3.1.0 from 2026-10-08)

Artifacts Created

  • CSV file with new rows ready for Drive import (/tmp/drive_tracker_update.csv in agent environment)
  • Full gap analysis covering ~3 month period and multiple major releases

Key Findings

Tracker vs. Current State

Metric v2.1.1 (Tracker) v3.1.0 (Current) Change
AccuracyCoin 141/141 146/146 +5 entries, corpus re-synced
Test Suite ~2030 3,269 +39% minimum, now exact
Mapper Families 172 total 191 total +19 families
Accuracy-Gated 146/172 160/191 +14 Core+Curated

Breaking Changes Timeline

  • v2.0.0 "Timebase": Save states, movies, scheduler change
  • v2.9.8 "Vanguard": ROM identity, API breaks
  • v3.0.0 "Cornerstone": API major, emulation epoch
  • v3.1.0 "Bellwether": Epoch 3, AccuracyCoin re-sync

Evidence Quality

All v3.1.0 metrics are repository claims from README.md and docs/STATUS.md at commit 67b2a6b, not fresh test runs. Document explicitly distinguishes repository claims from rerun results per Linear issue requirements.

Drive Tracker Update Rows

Six new rows prepared for the RustyNES sheet:

  1. AccuracyCoin: 146/146 (100%)
  2. Workspace test suite: 3,269/3,269 (100%)
  3. Mapper coverage (total): 191/191 (100%)
  4. Mapper coverage (accuracy-gated): 160/191 (83.77%)
  5. blargg suites (aggregate): 35/36 (97.22%)
  6. Commercial-ROM oracle: 99/99 (100%)

All rows include:

  • Date: 2026-10-10
  • Version: v3.1.0 "Bellwether"
  • Evidence links to repository, commit, documentation
  • Explicit "Repository claim" notation

Historical Preservation

Document preserves all v2.1.1 entries from 2026-07-10 for comparison. Historical rows remain in Drive tracker unchanged.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added a reconciliation report comparing tracker entries with RustyNES v3.1.0 claims, including metrics, release history, breaking changes, evidence, and recommended next steps.
    • Clearly distinguishes repository claims from results verified by rerunning tests.

Add comprehensive reconciliation document comparing Drive tracker state
(v2.1.1 from 2026-07-10) with current repository state (v3.1.0 from
2026-10-08). Document analyzes ~3 month gap spanning multiple major
releases and breaking changes.

Key reconciliation findings:
- AccuracyCoin: 141/141 → 146/146 (corpus re-synced to f5f41dc2)
- Test suite: ~2030 → 3,269 exact count (11 ignored)
- Mapper families: 172 → 191 total (+19 families)
- Accuracy-gated mappers: 146 → 160 (Core+Curated only)

All v3.1.0 metrics are repository claims from README.md and
docs/STATUS.md at commit 67b2a6b, not fresh test runs. Document
explicitly distinguishes repository claims from rerun results per
Linear issue requirements.

Created artifacts:
- docs/accuracy-tracker-reconciliation-2026-10-10.md (full analysis)
- CSV rows ready for Drive import at /tmp/drive_tracker_update.csv
- Evidence links to repository, CI, and documentation

Breaking changes timeline included: v2.0.0, v2.9.8, v3.0.0, v3.1.0
with save state, movie, and API compatibility notes.

📝 Walkthrough

The report compares the July 2026 tracker with RustyNES v3.1.0 repository claims. It records claimed metrics and release history, proposes tracker rows, and documents why tests were not rerun.

The report is prepared, but its ambiguous or unsupported figures and source references could lead to inaccurate tracker updates. Correct these before importing; the Drive tracker has not yet been updated, so the risk is limited and recoverable.

Antigravity review (Gemini via Ultra)

This PR adds a document summarizing the v3.1.0 accuracy metrics and provides a CSV snippet intended for updating an external Google Drive tracker.

Blocking issues

  • Malformed CSV: The CSV block contains unescaped double quotes in an unquoted field (v3.1.0 "Bellwether"). This violates RFC 4180 and will break the spreadsheet import. Change it to "v3.1.0 ""Bellwether""" or remove the internal quotes.

Suggestions

  • Style violation: The project conventions explicitly forbid emojis in documentation. Remove all ✅ and ⬜ characters.
  • Ephemeral content: This file reads as an AI execution log, not permanent project documentation. It commits temporary local paths (/tmp/..., /workspace/...) and agent status updates. Use this text to update the Drive tracker manually, but do not commit this operational scratchpad to the repository.

Nitpicks

  • The phrase "99 titles (60 + 137 + 6 = 203 individual checks)" is awkwardly structured since the numbers being summed relate to checks, not titles.

- Line 14: Add the required blank lines after the flagged headings and before
the table in the Markdown document to satisfy MD022 and MD058; leave unrelated
content unchanged.
- Line 48: Update the aggregate and proposed tracker row in the accuracy-tracker
reconciliation so the blargg total matches its component counts of 45/46, or
clearly state which checks are excluded if retaining 35/36.
- Line 186: Format the bare URLs in the accuracy-tracker reconciliation
document, including the entries shown and the additional affected entries, as
Markdown links or angle-bracket autolinks to satisfy MD034.
- Line 209: Update the Drive tracker status statement to say the report and CSV
are prepared while the Drive import remains outstanding; do not describe the
tracker as reconciled before the import.
- Line 89: Update the version range in the AccuracyCoin history row from
v2.6.16-v3.0.1 to v2.6.18-v3.0.1 to match the reported 144/144 result in
docs/STATUS.md; retain v2.6.16 only if the document cites supporting evidence.
- Line 144: Update the tracker row’s 99/99 denominator to cite the calculation
that derives 99 unique passing titles from the suite results; if that
calculation cannot be documented, use the appropriate denominator based on
individual checks instead.
- Line 192: Update the source citations in the reconciliation entry: remove the
suite-count attribution from README and cite STATUS for the 3,269-test suite
count, while keeping README cited for the AccuracyCoin badge and mappers.

Closing without merging. Thank you to the reviewers; every finding was checked and is accurate.

Review bodies. Copilot's overview (8 findings) and CodeRabbit's summary (7 actionable) restate the inline threads, each now answered and resolved. Antigravity's two additional points also hold:

  • the CSV row quotes v3.1.0 "Bellwether" without escaping, which breaks RFC 4180 import;
  • the ✅/⬜ markers break the project's no-emoji convention.

Why close rather than fix. docs/STATUS.md is the project's single source of truth for suite counts, the mapper matrix and release state. A dated reconciliation doc in docs/ would drift from it. The useful work here was checking the external tracker against STATUS, and that belongs in the tracker.

Carried into v3.2.0. Two findings point at real issues in the repository rather than in this file:

  • STATUS gives two different ignored-test counts (11 and 14);
  • STATUS does not say the 3,269-test workspace count comes from a local run. CI's test job runs only rustynes-test-harness and rustynes-mappers.

Both are fixed in the v3.2.0 status update.
