PHP 8.5 has been in the Alpine community repository since 3.23, and the regular 8.5 image now runs on Alpine 3.24, so pulling php85 from edge no longer adds anything.

Why
The 8.5-edge image was meant to be short-lived: it pulled PHP 8.5 from the Alpine edge repository until PHP 8.5 reached a stable Alpine release. That happened in Alpine 3.23, and the regular
8.5image now runs on Alpine 3.24, so the edge image no longer adds anything.It can even fall behind. During CVE-2026-109618/109619, PHP 8.5.12 was published in Alpine v3.24 before it reached edge, so
8.5was patched before8.5-edgewas.What changes
8.5-edge.Dockerfileis removed.-edgetags and no longer lists 8.5-edge in the version table.run-tests-local.shno longer build or test 8.5-edge.For users of
8.5-edgeSwitch to
existenz/webstack:8.5, or8.5-rootlessfor the rootless variant. The8.5-edgetag will be removed from Docker Hub after this is merged, so pulling it will fail instead of silently returning an image that no longer receives updates.
