  • BestFitColumnType has DATE and TIMESTAMP.
  • The statement accessors read them with getDate and getTimestamp. getObject hands a temporal value over in the driver's own class (Oracle: oracle.sql.TIMESTAMP), which no format or comparison of the engine knows.
  • No default type map names DATE or TIMESTAMP; a column is read with its own getter where a type map names them.

BestFitColumnType has DATE and TIMESTAMP, and the statement accessors
read them with getDate and getTimestamp: getObject hands a temporal
value over in the driver's own class (Oracle: oracle.sql.TIMESTAMP),
which no format or comparison of the engine knows. No default type map
gives them out; a column is read so where a type map names them.
