Headless catalog import

  • Manufacturer: Cycling '74 (existing record, no new manufacturer file)
  • Source: https://cycling74.com/
  • Tier issue: AUREO-529 (tier 1)

Counts

  • Discovered: 28 candidate products (6 pages crawled, plus 2 secondary pages folded into their parent product)
  • Extracted (success): 8
  • Extracted (partial / review): 7
  • Skipped (already in catalog): 0
  • Failed: 0
  • Auto-selected images: 12/37

15 entries: 11 software, 4 content. No hardware, no accessories.

What was imported

Current line (4) — Max, Max for Live, RNBO, Mira.
Cycles audio source libraries (4) — Volumes 1 to 4, by sound designer Ron MacLeod.
Retired from sale (7) — M, Pluggo, Hipno, Mode, Octirama, Upmix, Radial, all
tagged discontinued.

Judgement calls a reviewer should check

  • /products/max-9 is not a separate product. It is the Max 9 launch page
for the same product, folded into cycling-74-max for version and feature
detail rather than filed as its own entry.
  • /products/rnbo/move is not a separate product. "RNBO Move Takeover" is a
feature page for RNBO's Ableton Move export target. It sits under the RNBO
path, has no price, no shop entry and no separate download, so it is recorded
as an export target in RNBO's specs and details.
  • /products/cycles sells four separate libraries on one page. Each volume
is its own entry, per the one-entry-per-SKU rule. The $99 full-set bundle is
deliberately not an entry (bundle rule) and is recorded in deferred.json.
No per-volume URL exists on the site, so all four share the series URL. The
only per-volume links are FastSpring checkout URLs, which are purchase links
    and are excluded.
  • RNBO and Max for Live carry no formats. RNBO's VST3, AudioUnit,
Raspberry Pi, Web Audio and C++ outputs are export targets, not formats
RNBO ships in; they are recorded in specs. Max for Live devices are .amxd,
which the format vocabulary does not carry, and no value was invented.
  • RNBO's platforms are inherited, not page-sourced. Neither the RNBO page
nor its shop page states system requirements. mac and windows come from
RNBO requiring an active Max 8 or Max 9 licence, which the shop page does
state. Drop them if you want page-only evidence.
  • Max's top-level releaseDate was removed by the orchestrator. The
extraction put 2026-10-01 there, which is version 9.2.0's release date. Max
dates to the 1990s. At the top level that would assert Max launched in
2026. The date is kept on the 9.2.0 versions entry, and the page states
    no original release date.
  • Max's three prices are the standing US tiers ($399 perpetual, $12.99
    monthly, $125 yearly). Student ($250, $90/yr), upgrade ($149, $199) and
Ableton crossgrade ($199) tiers were deliberately excluded, as was the
    $698 Max + RNBO bundle.
  • Mira is platforms: [ios] only. The page names the iPad and the App Store
throughout and never states a desktop OS as a requirement of Mira itself. The
macOS/Windows requirements on /downloads belong to Max, the host it mirrors.
  • The seven discontinued entries have no description. The archive page
carries downloads, a staleness note and system requirements for each, and no
descriptive prose at all. 11 candidate per-product URLs and the sitemap were
probed and all 404, so no per-product detail exists anywhere on the site. No
description was written rather than invented. They share the archive URL for
    the same reason.

Confidence flags

Low or medium confidence on categories, all reported by the extraction:

  • cycling-74-radial — primaryCategory: uncategorized, low confidence. The
archive page gives no description, no host and no format for Radial. Worth
    a human look:
the Cycles pages in this same import name "radiaL" as a
looping application alongside Live, Acid and GarageBand, which would support a
real category, but that is a cross-page inference about a differently-cased
    name and was not applied.
  • cycling-74-mira — control-surface, medium. No value in the vocabulary
    names a software remote control.
  • cycling-74-max, cycling-74-max-for-live, cycling-74-rnbo — medium. No
category names a visual patching or development environment, so standalone
and modular are the closest fits.
  • All four Cycles volumes — medium on name. Page headings are bare ("Volume 2:
Unnatural Rhythm"), so the series name was prefixed for disambiguation.
  • cycling-74-cycles-volume-2 carries percussion while its own copy calls the
loops "non-drum". Read as deliberate: the material is found-object gamelan and
industrial percussion, and drums/drum-sample-pack were correctly avoided.
  • cycling-74-cycles-volume-3 carries brass on the strength of "Horn Based
Gestures: lite to heavily processed acoustic horn gestures". The page never
    says "brass".

Data review

  • Mode: slim consistency pass (15 entries), every changed file read in full.
  • Auto-fixes applied: 22 across 13 files.
    • RNBO details de-narrated in 4 places (copy described the source page
rather than the product: "The page lists…", "The shop page states…").
    • 6 archive entries (Pluggo, Hipno, Mode, Octirama, Upmix, Radial) carried a
spec bullet narrating the page and baking in a relative age, "over 18 years
ago", which would go stale on every rebuild. Rewritten as a standing fact.
    • Cycles volumes 1 to 3 each stated the delivery format two ways, 24-bit FLAC
(the page's current intro) and .wav (the DVD-era "Design Philosophy"
boilerplate). The .wav clause was dropped from specs and details.
Volume 1's own 5.1 "6 channel broadcast .wav" line is volume-specific and
      stays.
    • Cycles Volume 1: a spec promoted one content category's duration ("30
seconds to 2 minutes") to the whole volume. Scoped back to Other Realms.
    • Cycles Volume 4: dropped a redundant effect category (it is a sample
library, not a processor, and sound-effects already covers it) and a
      series-level cover-photo credit.
    • Max for Live: two details paragraphs opened with the page's marketing
headings glued onto the prose. Removed.
    • Mira: a semicolon in specs (house style bars semicolons in copy).
    • Radial: preRelease: true added to the "1.5 beta" version.
  • One review finding was investigated and rejected. The reviewer flagged
Max's 9.2.0 release date, its three prices and the 4 Max plus 2 RNBO video IDs
as unsupported, because none appear in the saved page text. They were verified
against the live pages instead and all are correct: the saved captures are
markup-stripped readable text, so embedded JSON and iframes are absent from
them by construction, not missing from the source. /shop carries "Max 9
    $399", "Annual Subscription $125 / year", "Monthly Subscription $12.99 /
month" and the matching RNBO tiers; /downloads carries
"version":"9.2.0" with "releaseDate":"2026-10-01"; and all six video IDs
appear as youtube-nocookie.com/embed/… iframes on their pages.
  • Remaining notes (INFO / un-auto-fixed):
    • W127 on RNBO (acronym without searchTerms). Cycling '74 never expands
RNBO, so no expansion was invented.
    • 11 of 15 entries ship with no image (see the coverage rows below).
    • M and Pluggo keep factual archive availability notes in specs. They are
de-first-personed, but the discontinued category already carries the first
      of them.
    • RNBO records the Move takeover as "experimental alpha / public beta" because
the product page and the Move sub-page disagree on the stage label.

Every spelling row is real Max or audio vocabulary (patchcords, Max object
names such as rslider and flonum, inport, subpatches, Digidesign,
Monome, ROLI), not a misspelling. They are flagged only because this is the
brand's first import and the words are not yet carried by three or more catalog
entries.

The four Cycles covers are 200x177 on the page, below the 300px gallery floor,
so the quality gate rejected all four. The seven archive entries have no image
on the page at all. No larger source exists in the markup and none was
constructed.

Images

12 uploaded across 4 products (Max 3, Max for Live 3, Mira 3, RNBO 3).

The manufacturer logo refresh was rejected: the only logo in the markup is
C74-dark.svg, which rasterises at its intrinsic 36x20, below the 48px
manufacturer-logo floor. Cycling '74 is an existing manufacturer and its logo is
already in R2, so the existing one stands unchanged.

All 40 URLs across the 15 entries return 200, except
https://support.cycling74.com/hc which returns 403 (anti-crawl, excluded from
findings per data-review). validate-urls --changed-only could not be used: it
diffs against HEAD and these files are untracked until this PR's commit, so
the URLs were checked directly instead.

💡 Result:

- **Live Suite:** Max for Live is included.
- **Live Standard:** You can buy Max for Live as an add-on.
- **Live Intro:** Ableton says Max for Live isn’t supported, and the add-on is not offered for Intro. Intro does include a few built-in Max for Live devices, but you can’t edit their patches or load other Max for Live devices. ([help.ableton.com](https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/206407124-Buying-Max-for-Live?utm_source=openai))

So, for full Max for Live functionality, choose **Suite** or **Standard plus the add-on**.

site:support.cycling74.com "Max and Ableton Live installed" "Max for Live" license standalone

💡 Result:

Having **standalone Max and Ableton Live installed does not automatically give you a Max for Live license**. Live Suite includes Max for Live; Live Standard requires the Max for Live add-on. Live Lite and Intro can’t use that add-on. Add the Live entitlement to the requirements.

Full use of Max for Live devices in Live requires Live Suite or Live Standard with the Max for Live add-on. Live Lite and Intro cannot use the add-on. Live 11 Intro and Standard include some built-in devices, but these do not provide full Max for Live access. A standalone Max license does not grant this entitlement.

Add a Live entitlement requirement alongside the Max system requirements in the
Max for Live entry: full Max for Live access in Live requires Live Suite or Live
Standard with the add-on; clarify that Lite and Intro cannot use the add-on,
built-in devices in Live 11 Intro and Standard do not grant full access, and a
standalone Max license does not grant the entitlement.

Correct the Max annual subscription price.

The entry lists $125 per year. Cycling ’74 lists $120 per year. Change amount to 120 so the catalog does not overstate the price. (cycling74.com)

Although built on new technology, RNBO offers an instantly recognizable patching environment with many familiar objects and practices from Max, so existing Max users are up and running quickly. It carries full Gen integration with added event support and interactive UI objects, a help file for every RNBO object, mixing of events and signals in the patcher, param/inport/outport objects to define the controls of an export, mixed patching and text-based programming, and a polyphony attribute for patches, subpatches and abstractions.

RNBO is supported by online resources at rnbo.cycling74.com, with tutorial videos, documentation and project guides. To get started you download and install Max, where RNBO runs in a trial mode with saving disabled until the full version is purchased. RNBO is an add-on for Max that requires an active Max 8 or Max 9 licence, sold as a permanent licence or as an annual or monthly subscription.

Cycling 74 RNBO minimum Max version 8.5 compatibility purchase license Max 8

💡 Result:

**Yes—if you own a Max 8 license, you can buy RNBO as an add-on.** You’ll need to install **Max 8.5 or later**: RNBO is bundled starting with 8.5, and minor updates from Max 8 to 8.5 are free. ([support.cycling74.com](https://support.cycling74.com/hc/en-us/articles/10542305345043-Purchasing-RNBO?utm_source=openai))

Without an RNBO license, you can try RNBO in demo mode, but you can’t save RNBO patches. When purchasing, sign in to your Cycling ’74 account and select your eligible Max 8 license. State the Max 8.5 installation minimum separately from the licence requirement.

Cycling ’74 says RNBO requires Max 8.5 or later, while an eligible Max 8 licence can purchase the RNBO add-on. Add the installation minimum and keep the licence statement unchanged.
