Add FluidNC WASM demo bridge support - #29
Conversation
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe app now requests and parses JSON device information. When the WASM bridge is active, it uses a WebSocket adapter and fetch and XMLHttpRequest interceptors to route supported operations through the parent shim. ChangesWASM Bridge and Device Info

uploadFile() assigns xhr.onload/onerror before calling open(), but the XHR interceptor only captured onload while intercept was already true, i.e. after open(). The handler landed on the real, never-sent XHR, so a bridged upload's promise never settled. Capture on* handlers whenever they're assigned, and report a failed write via onerror instead of swallowing it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

FigUI reads LocalFS files at their bare path (mountedFilePath() only prefixes SD paths), which inside the blob: iframe becomes e.g. "http:///config.yaml". The fetch interceptor only recognized known endpoint names, so these fell through to the real fetch and failed -- breaking INTERNAL downloads and opening config.yaml in the editor and Settings. Parse empty-host URLs exactly and serve any other GET on them from native_localfs, as FluidNC's web server does for unmatched paths. Also strip the /localfs prefix in handleFileDownload(), which was being passed through as part of the native_localfs path. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The previous fix assumed LocalFS reads arrived as "http:///config.yaml". They don't: with window.location.host empty in the blob: iframe, the base is "http://", and setBase() strips its trailing slash, so requests are "http://config.yaml" -- indistinguishable from a real host. While the bridge is active, attemptConnect() now sets the base to http://fluidnc-wasm.invalid, which the interceptor matches exactly. The known-endpoint search is kept for requests sent before the base is set. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Keep ESP800 producers compatible with the new request.
The demo and standalone simulators recognize only "[ESP800]". The new "[ESP800]json=yes" request receives ok, so parseESP800 returns {}. resolveWsHost then defaults to port 80 and connect targets ws://<host>/, instead of the simulator's WebSocket on port 8081. Update the simulator responses for the JSON request. If supported firmware can still return plain text, retain a legacy parsing fallback.

FluidNC wasm demo index.html handleFsRequest fluidnc_fs_write file upload binary
💡 Result:
In the current `main`-branch WASM demo, `handleFsRequest()` handles a `write` by passing `msg.content` to `fsOps.stageFile(...)`. That function is bound to `fluidnc_stage_file` with C `string` arguments—not to a `fluidnc_fs_write` function. ([github.com](https://github.com/bdring/FluidNC/blob/main/FluidNC/wasm/demo/index.html))
**Implication:** this bridge is designed for text content; the source does not establish a binary-safe upload path. For arbitrary binary files, use a byte-oriented interface—e.g., pass bytes into WASM memory and call a C function with a pointer and length—instead of converting binary data to a JS string. The demo’s write API and the separate upload UI in its WebUI are different paths. ([github.com](https://github.com/bdring/FluidNC/blob/main/FluidNC/wasm/demo/index.html))
This reflects the repository’s `main` branch as retrieved; if you’re looking at another commit, its implementation may differ.

Preserve file bytes in the WASM upload bridge.
The file manager accepts arbitrary selected or dropped files and sends them to /upload or /files. The WASM handlers call File.text(), which decodes file bytes as UTF-8 before calling fsRequest('write', ...). Invalid sequences become replacement characters, and the parent stageFile API accepts C strings rather than raw bytes. Binary files can therefore be stored with changed content and downloaded in corrupted form.
Extend the filesystem write RPC to carry bytes, then pass File.arrayBuffer() from both upload handlers. Do not pass the ArrayBuffer until the parent RPC consumes that representation.

Do not expose a successful XHR state before the intercepted upload finishes.
When intercept is true, the proxy returns readyState 4 and status 200 immediately after open(). uploadFile() reads xhr.status from its onload handler, so a failed Promise.all(writes) can trigger onerror while the proxy still reports status 200. Track completion and failure, then expose the corresponding XHR state only after Promise.all(writes) settles.

Add a timeout to pending bridge requests.
sendShimCommand and fsRequest wait for a response with no time limit. If the parent page never answers, the promise never settles. The cause can be a parent page reload, an unknown op, or a WASM crash. Each get() in src/lib/http.ts runs through the serialize chain. One /command request that never settles therefore blocks every later HTTP request. Reject the promise after a timeout and delete its entry from the pending map.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Do not open a socket that is already closed.
If close() runs before the deferred setTimeout callback, _open() still runs later. It sets readyState to 1 and subscribes a listener that nothing removes. It also fires open on a socket that is already closed. Return early from _open() when readyState is not CONNECTING.

Review comment at @src/wasmBridge/WasmBridgeWebSocket.ts around lines 59 - 75:
Update WasmBridgeWebSocket._open to return immediately unless readyState is
CONNECTING, before setting it to OPEN or registering the line listener, so a
deferred open cannot revive a socket closed before the callback runs.

Summary
Lets FigUI run against a real, compiled FluidNC instance running in WebAssembly in the browser (see
FluidNC/wasm/README.mdin the firmware repo), instead of only real hardware or the JS-simulated demo mode.wasmBridge/index.ts'sinstallWasmBridgeIfActive()is called unconditionally frommain.tsx(works in every build mode, including the realbuild:esp32artifact) and is a no-op unless a runtime marker is present, so it's harmless in a normal deployment — the marker only gets injected when this build is loaded inside the FluidNC WASM demo's iframe.wasmBridge/shimTransport.ts— low-levelpostMessageclient talking to the demo page'sShimChannelbridge (raw Grbl-line stream + a file-op request/response RPC).wasmBridge/WasmBridgeWebSocket.ts— installed aswindow.WebSocketsosrc/lib/ws.tsworks unmodified.wasmBridge/httpBridge.ts— interceptsfetch/XMLHttpRequestfor/command,/upload,/files, etc., matchingsrc/lib/http.ts's real endpoints.wasmBridge/commandBridge.ts— request/response command sends for the HTTP-shaped surface.Since the wasm build shares one physical channel for everything (unlike real hardware's genuinely independent HTTP and WebSocket connections), the last two commits close a couple of races that only show up in that environment:
JSONencoderwraps JSON payloads sent over a serial-shaped channel in[JSON:...]-tagged chunks, so a payload line can't collide with theok/errorline that terminates a command. That reassembly used to be done independently in this bridge and in the equivalent bridges for two other WebUI projects (ESP3D-WEBUI, WebUI-mm) that talk to the same demo. It's now done once, by the demo page itself, before anything is ever posted here — this bridge just receives whole, already-unwrapped lines.WasmBridgeWebSocket(bypassing the old per-bridge queue) could still race a pending command and steal itsokline, so the queue now serializes all shim traffic — raw sends and RPC commands alike — not just commands against each other.[ESP800]json=yeshandler (FluidNC/wasm/FwInfo.cppin the firmware repo) rather than each bridge hardcoding a fake firmware-info response —parser.ts/App.tsx/http.tsupdated to consume the real JSON shape.Note for reviewers
src/lib/http.tsoverlaps withe4d3cec(Serialize filesystem ops), already onmain. This branch predates that commit, so it doesn't yet reflect it — both efforts independently added serialization to prevent races in their own subsystem (filesystem ops there, shim commands here), just worth being aware of when merging. The overlapping line (getDeviceInfoFast's[ESP800]command string) isn't touched bye4d3cecitself, so I don't expect a real conflict, but flagging it since I haven't rebased onto currentmainyet.Test plan
