ci: fix macOS shutdown, test fixtures, and browser teardown - #12702
Fix the failures exposed by #12701 and subsequent CI runs, including macOS output-worker shutdown crashes.
macOS flb_stop() sent a shutdown signal and then cancelled the engine thread. Cancellation could interrupt its join of an output worker, letting the caller destroy shared state while that worker was still stopping. Stop now waits for engine cleanup to finish. A regression holds a worker in its exit callback and checks that both workers have exited before stop returns. Restoring cancellation makes it fail deterministically (zero of two workers finished). Stackdriver formatter tests retain their default workers.
The remaining changes address independent CI failures:
Shell HTTP TLS and TCP syslog listeners use ports 20500–20502, outside the default ephemeral client-port ranges, avoiding the bind collision seen on port 50002.
S3 test mocks keep controls, call counts, and recorded URIs in synchronized immutable state instead of mutating the process environment while workers and tests read it. The state is released after each test, once workers have stopped.
DNS timeout tests use an ephemeral loopback resolver; OAuth cache tests set expiry boundaries explicitly.
Dummy tests wait for delivery before shutdown. Startup collection has a separate assertion that periodic collection cannot satisfy.
Grouped-chunk tests inspect chunks synchronously. Grouped rewrite tests inject on the engine thread, preserving record, tag, metadata, and deadline assertions.
Browser shutdown tracks child workers through acknowledgement or bounded fallback, explicitly terminates them while the owner is alive, drains logs, and acknowledges owner closure before client termination.
Browser download failures use a real HTTP 503 response. Image cleanup skips absent packages (404), while permission and server errors still fail.
No bundled-library edits or configuration changes. macOS library shutdown now waits for graceful cleanup. Fourteen DCO-signed commits separate the library interface, runtime regression, fixtures, browser implementation/tests, and workflow fix.
Passed: all six focused targets, 20 shutdown-suite repetitions, and all three shutdown integration cases normally and under strict Valgrind. The regression reports zero memory errors and no remaining allocations. The cancellation negative control fails as expected.
Additional validation passed:
All three affected shell tests concurrently; matching syslog plaintext/TLS and HTTP/1 TLS integration cases normally and under strict Valgrind (3 cases each).
All 27 S3 runtime cases plus both S3 OTLP runtime cases (also Valgrind-clean); the failing ordered-timer case under strict Valgrind (zero errors, no remaining allocations); 7 real S3 HTTP integration cases normally and under strict Valgrind; and an ASAN stress harness linked against the actual S3 mock functions (20,000 writes, four concurrent readers, retained values valid).
DNS/network, dummy, grouped-chunk/routes, OAuth, and grouped rewrite focused CTests; strict Valgrind checks report zero errors and no remaining allocations.
Integration coverage normally and under strict Valgrind: 2 networking, 1 dummy/rate-gate, 4 OAuth, 8 grouped-rewrite, and 2 Stackdriver worker/token-refresh cases.
OTLP logs-to-S3 integration normally and under strict Valgrind. Optional metrics/traces variants skip because this binary does not emit those S3 payloads.
20 browser ASAN CTests and 29 JavaScript tests; five full normal and five full ASAN browser SDK runs with concurrent suites sharing two CPUs, plus the ASAN browser-page suite.
Ten constrained ASAN pthread suites (270 fault cases) passed; the preceding implementation retained an actual Chromium owner target in nine of ten equivalent suites. New regressions fail the preceding implementation.
Actionlint, cleanup HTTP 200/404/403/500 mocks, full-range prefix/DCO checks for all fourteen commits, and git diff --check.
CI checks cover Linux, macOS, Windows, AArch64, s390x, RISC-V, fuzzing, and both push- and pull-request-triggered browser workflows.

Walkthrough
The pull request changes PR image cleanup, DNS and runtime tests, OAuth2 refresh test setup, and browser worker shutdown behavior. It also updates the WASM SDK download-failure test.
Changes: PR image cleanup
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Package lookup and prune condition .github/workflows/pr-closed-docker.yaml
The workflow checks whether the PR package exists. It skips pruning when the package is missing and rethrows errors other than 404 responses.
DNS timeout test
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Test linkage and local DNS fixture tests/internal/CMakeLists.txt, tests/internal/network_dns.c
The DNS test target links fluent-bit-static and src/flb_network.c. A test-specific c-ares initializer directs requests to a local TCP server, which returns NXDOMAIN responses.
DNS lookup handling and cleanup tests/internal/network_dns.c
The test services no-timeout lookups through the local server, expects ARES_ENOTFOUND, and closes the server sockets.
Dummy input record tests
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Record publication and wait helper tests/runtime/in_simple_systems.c
The callback publishes the current record count. The wait helper accepts a minimum count and polls for it after the configured wait.
Dummy test cases and rate registration tests/runtime/in_simple_systems.c
Flush cases specify minimum counts. The rate case uses the wait helper and is registered separately; its retry loop is removed.
OAuth2 refresh test
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Refresh boundary setup tests/internal/oauth2.c
The mock token lifetime changes to 3600 seconds. The test sets expires_at to the current time plus refresh_skew instead of sleeping.
Browser worker lifecycle
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Pthread shutdown and termination sdk/browser/fluent-bit-pthread.js, sdk/browser/fluent-bit-worker.js
The pthread closes before posting its acknowledgement. The worker coordinates repeated shutdown requests, waits for acknowledgement, and terminates only when the child does not acknowledge within the timeout.
Engine teardown and lifecycle tests sdk/browser/fluent-bit-worker.js, tests/wasm/sdk_worker_unit_test.mjs
Engine destruction shuts down pthread workers before draining logs. Unit tests cover deferred termination, shutdown acknowledgement, timeout termination, immediate termination, and fatal cleanup order.
WASM download failure test
Layer / File(s)
Summary
WASM failure response and assertion tests/wasm/sdk_test.py
The test handler returns HTTP 503 for runtime WASM requests and counts them. The test asserts that one request was intercepted.
fluent/fluent-bit#12429: Adds the browser WebAssembly SDK and worker lifecycle that this pull request updates.
fluent/fluent-bit#12644: Changes c-ares deadline handling and adds the DNS test target extended by this pull request.

Keep the startup assertion within the first interval.
For flush_on_startup, this loop extends the wait from 7 to 12 seconds. If startup collection is broken, the normal five-second collector can still produce two records and pass the test. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Use an interval longer than the full wait and assert that a startup record arrives.
