  • compat

    • Fixed a missing import. Thanks to Andrej730 for the patch.
  • markers

    • Fixed #273: Enforce compatible-release bounds in environment markers. Thanks to Luochenchen for the patch.
  • metadata

    • Fix #194: Add an urls property to expose project and home URLs. Thanks to Sinkleberg for the patch.
  • scripts

    • Raise the correct exception when a launcher can't be written. Thanks to candygoogy for the patch.

    • Fix #144: Detect shell-script Python executables in ScriptMaker shebangs. Thanks to Alex Chen for the patch.

  • util

    • Improve performance of export entry search to take linear time. Thanks to Brian Willows for the patch.

    • Use tarfile.data_filter rather than tarfile.tar_filter in unarchive() when extraction filters are available, matching the Python 3.14 default. Path and link containment checks now use os.path.realpath and no longer fail with IndexError for members such as . or ./. Thanks to Kobain for the patch.

    • unarchive() now resolves member paths through symlinks seen earlier in the same archive, so a chain of individually harmless-looking links cannot be used to write outside the destination on Pythons without extraction filters. Thanks to Kobain for the patch.

  • version

    • Improve NormalizedVersion by addressing correctness and performance gaps found by comparison with packaging. Thanks to Damian Shaw for the patch.

    • Improve SemanticVersion by comparing numeric prerelease identifiers, including those longer than 8 digits. Thanks to Muneeb Sheikh for the patch.

Updates filelock from 4.0.12 to 4.1.0

Release notes

Sourced from filelock's releases.

4.1.0

  • Import OwnerMode, CompromiseReason and has_fcntl from filelock. #790
  • AcquireReturnProxy is generic in the lock type, so with lock.acquire() as held: types held as the lock's own class. #803
  • A Timeout from a soft lock names a holder on another host or in another PID namespace, which no contender ever reclaims. #815
  • is_lock_held_by_us and is_lock_held_by_us return False for a marker an earlier process with the same PID left behind. #774
  • SoftFileLock removes its marker when writing it fails and closing the descriptor fails too, so the lock path no longer stays blocked. #775
  • acquire and acquire no longer wait past timeout when poll_interval is longer than the time left. #777
  • SoftReadWriteLock ignores a generation-log entry whose name is not 20 ASCII digits, which used to stop its heartbeat thread or delete real generations. #778
  • ReadWriteLock, SoftReadWriteLock and their async wrappers treat a inf timeout like -1 and raise ValueError for a blocking nan one. #779
  • ReadWriteLock and SoftReadWriteLock accept a timeout above TIMEOUT_MAX instead of raising OverflowError. #780
  • acquire raises ValueError for a blocking nan timeout or a poll_interval above TIMEOUT_MAX, and treats a inf timeout like -1. #781
  • SoftFileLock and MarkerSoftFileLock treat a marker cut before its final newline as malformed, so a crash-truncated record self-heals and a read mid-write no longer breaks a live lock. #782
  • UnixFileLock no longer deletes another process's live marker when it falls back to a soft lock on ENOSYS, and on macOS a lock path ending in a separator raises FileNotFoundError instead of retrying. #785
  • SoftFileLock and SoftFileLease put back a live successor's marker that a racing stale break moved aside, so a third contender no longer acquires beside the successor. #786
  • StrictSoftFileLock removes every claim a failed acquire published, counts an EEXIST link that landed as published, and no longer reports is_locked after a failed claim cleanup. #787
  • On Python 3.10 without the exceptiongroup backport, a release failure under the default context_error_policy no longer turns into ModuleNotFoundError; cleanup failures chain instead of grouping, and on_acquired is allowed. #788
  • AsyncReadWriteLock and AsyncSoftReadWriteLock drop a task's hold when a caller cancels it during a release that still completes, instead of blocking every later writer. #789
  • SoftFileLease releases a lease dropped while held, at garbage collection or interpreter exit, and raises ValueError for a heartbeat_interval above TIMEOUT_MAX. #791
  • StrictSoftFileLock judges an abandoned private record's age by the filesystem's clock, so a client clock ahead of an NFS server no longer aborts live publications. #792
  • BaseAsyncFileLock raises RuntimeError instead of CancelledError when its executor shuts down with the call still queued, and a waiter interrupted by anything else no longer wedges later calls. #793
  • Constructing or closing a second ReadWriteLock on a held database no longer drops the holder's lock, so other processes stay excluded. #794
  • SoftReadWriteLock no longer admits a second writer after <path>.rw is removed under a live instance, and flushes each snapshot before publishing it so a crash cannot leave an empty one that wedges every peer. #795
  • SoftFileLease reclaims a dead MarkerSoftFileLock owner, and expires a lease or a malformed soft marker after it stays unchanged on the contender's own monotonic clock, so clock skew cannot break it. #796
  • A soft lock marker written in a Linux container records its PID namespace with the hostname, so a sibling container that shares the hostname and volume no longer breaks a live lock. #797
  • close> makes an acquire still waiting in another thread raise RuntimeError, where it used to take the lock on the closed instance and hold it until the process exited. #798
  • SoftReadWriteLock reads the head from gen/HEAD, so a client whose cached directory listing is

4.2.4 (2026-10-19)

  • Keep GitHub Release notes free of extra blank lines while retaining the PyPI and version comparison links. :pr:863

4.2.3 (2026-10-19)

  • Creating a lock on a Python 3.15 interpreter without types.LazyImportType no longer triggers AttributeError at exit. :pr:860
  • Handle EFTYPE when a no-follow open refuses a symlink in a soft reader/writer lock's protocol tree, so heartbeat reports lost ownership rather than a transient refresh error.

4.2.2 (2026-10-18)

  • Fix a lock on a relative path that stayed held after a later with lock: ended, when an earlier acquire() had failed because the working directory no longer exists. That call still raises :class:FileNotFoundError, and it now leaves the lock's hold count unchanged. :pr:856

4.2.1 (2026-10-17)

  • On a singleton wrapper, :meth:AsyncReadWriteLock.close() <filelock.AsyncReadWriteLock.close> and :meth:AsyncSoftReadWriteLock.close() <filelock.AsyncSoftReadWriteLock.close> end only the holds that tasks acquired through that wrapper. A reader that arrives during close() gets the closed error instead of joining the ending hold. After synchronous code closes or force-releases the shared lock, the wrappers refuse to admit readers into the ended hold, and close() on such a wrapper returns. Closing one wrapper no longer ends a task's nested hold taken through another wrapper on the same path. :pr:832
  • :class:~filelock.ReadWriteLock locks again after a release() that an exception from a signal handler interrupted. The async read-write wrappers stop admitting readers into such a level. The async read-write locks forget a hold whose backend release failed after the backend let go, and they free the memory of each acquire that times out or is canceled. :class:~filelock.AsyncFileLock returns from release() after a few hundred acquires gave up behind a waiting one. An exception from a signal handler delivered while an :class:~filelock.AsyncFileLock call joins its queue no longer blocks every later call on that lock. :pr:833
  • Fix :class:~filelock.ReadWriteLock acting on -journal, -wal or -shm files another process puts beside its database: a write could land in another file, a reader could get in beside a writer, and an acquire could fail. SQLite now opens the database by name only in a directory no other account can write, and through a private hard link elsewhere. On Windows the directory's access control list decides. Where hard links are unavailable, keep the database

pluggy 1.7.0 (2026-10-14)

Deprecations and Removals

  • [#632](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/632) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/632>_: Hookspec methods defined without self as the first parameter now emit a :class:DeprecationWarning. Add self as the first parameter or use @staticmethod.

Features

  • [#170](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/170) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/170>_: Hookspecs can now declare default values for arguments, using the usual def myhook(myarg="default") syntax. This is mainly a backward compatibility feature, to allow a hookspec to add new parameters to an existing hook without breaking existing callers. See :ref:hookspec_arg_default for details.

  • [#729](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/729) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/729>_: Tracing now adds detail where str() is ambiguous: empty strings and strings containing whitespace are quoted, and enums and paths show their repr().

A value spanning several lines is now displayed as a block instead of running into the surrounding trace.

Bug Fixes

  • [#629](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/629) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/629>_: Fix hooks failing to register on Python 3.14+ when type annotations use forward references.

  • [#315](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/315) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/315>_: Source archives created by git archive (including GitHub's "Source code" downloads) now carry version information, so building pluggy from them no longer fails with a missing version.

  • [#442](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/442) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/442>_: With the addition of default values for hookspec arguments, we also changed the precedence of default values for hookimpl arguments. Previously, if a hookimpl function declared a default for an argument, it was always used, even if the hook call passed an explicit value. Now the precedence is changed to: hook call passed value > hookspec default value > hookimpl default value. See :ref:hookimpl_arg_defaults.

  • [#701](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/701) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/issues/701>_: Hookimpls and hookspecs are now discovered via :func:inspect.getattr_static, so properties, cached_property and other descriptors are no longer executed while scanning a plugin. Hooks declared through such a descriptor are not supported.

As a side effect, @hookimpl/@hookspec applied above @classmethod or @staticmethod is now picked up; previously the marker sat on the wrapper where getattr() never saw it. Callables stored directly on a plugin instance -- in its __dict__ or in a __slots__ slot -- keep being called exactly as getattr() returned them, i.e. without an implicit self.

Updates pytest-mock from 3.16.0 to 3.17.0

Release notes

Sourced from pytest-mock's releases.

v3.17.0

2026-10-17

  • #641: Failures of mock assertions such as assert_called_with are again reported only once, instead of two or three times with the original error from the mock module chained before them.
  • #642: Mock assertion failures no longer show misleading introspection when they are not about the arguments of the last call: assert_called, assert_called_once, assert_not_called, assert_any_call, their await counterparts, and assert_called_once_with/assert_awaited_once_with when the mock was not called (awaited) exactly once. The introspection also no longer reports arguments passed by position versus by keyword as different for autospecced mocks, and no longer shows empty Args:/Kwargs: sections when assertion rewriting is not available.
  • #643: assert_has_calls and assert_has_awaits failures no longer show pytest introspection, which compared the expected and actual calls position by position and so reported differences between unrelated calls. The mock's own message, listing the expected and actual calls, is still shown.

v3.16.1

2026-10-17

  • #617: Fixed assert_has_calls raising ValueError instead of AssertionError (or showing misleading introspection) when the expected calls are plain tuples rather than call(...) objects, such as (args, kwargs) entries of another mock's call_args_list, (args,), (kwargs,), (name, args) or (name, kwargs).
  • #621: Fixed mocker.stop() sometimes stopping the wrong mock, for example with mocks from mocker.create_autospec.
  • #621: mocker.stop() now undoes the most recent patch first when the same object is used in several patches.
  • #623: Fixed misleading introspection in assert_has_awaits failures, and assert_has_calls/assert_has_awaits raising IndexError instead of AssertionError when calls is passed by keyword.
  • #624: Clear spy_return_iter after a spied synchronous or asynchronous function raises, matching spy_return.
  • #627: Document async_stub await assertions and the distinction between call and await tracking.
  • #629: Fixed mocker.resetall() skipping the mocks patched with mocker.patch.multiple(), both the ones it creates and the ones passed explicitly.
  • #630: mocker.resetall() now also resets spy_return and spy_exception of spies, like it already did for spy_return_list and spy_return_iter, and no longer overwrites attributes with these names on mocks that are not spies.
  • #633: Fixed spies on classmethod, staticmethod, builtins and classes returning a MagicMock instead of calling the spied code after mocker.resetall(side_effect=True). Resetting a spy's side_effect now goes back to calling the spied code, also clearing any side_effect set on the spy.

Updates python-dateutil from 2.9.0.post0 to 3.0.0

Release notes

Sourced from python-dateutil's releases.

3.0.0

This is the last major version of dateutil that will support any version of Python older than 3.11. The next release will be the 4.x series, which will support Python 3.11 and later. We may release fixes for serious bugs in the 3.0.x series, but there are no plans for new features there.

The biggest change in this release is a rewrite of tz.tzfile, which affects nearly every user of dateutil.tz and changes the UTC offset of nonexistent times (see below). dateutil also now depends on the tzdata package, and no longer ships its own time zone database.

Data updates

  • dateutil no longer bundles a copy of the IANA time zone database. Time zone data now comes from the system (see dateutil.tz.TZPATH) or, failing that, from the new tzdata dependency, so the data version is whatever version of tzdata is installed. (gh pr #1130)

Features

  • Rewrote tz.tzfile based on a backport of the zoneinfo module's pure-Python implementation. This adds support for Version 2 and Version 3 tzfile(5) binaries, resolving issues with timestamps beyond 2038 and "slim" format binaries. (gh issues #462, #1059, gh pr #1130)
  • Added dateutil.tz.TZPATH and dateutil.tz.reset_tzpath to allow for runtime configuration of the IANA time zone data search path. These replace the mutable dateutil.tz.TZPATHS list, which has been removed. (gh pr #1130)
  • dateutil now depends on the tzdata package, which gettz consults after the search path and before the Windows registry. On Windows this means that names that are both IANA keys and Windows time zone names, such as "UTC", now return a tzfile rather than a tzwin. (gh pr #1130)

Bugfixes

  • tz.tzfile now follows PEP 495 for times that fall in a gap: with fold=0 it uses the offset from before the transition, and with fold=1 the offset from after it. Previously it always used the offset from after the transition, so for example datetime(2003, 4, 6, 2, 30, tzinfo=tz.gettz("America/New_York")) had a UTC offset of -04:00, where it now has -05:00, the same as with zoneinfo. (gh pr #1130)
  • tz.tzfile objects for fixed-offset zones, such as tz.gettz("UTC"), now return their offset, DST offset and abbreviation when utcoffset, dst and tzname are called with None, as tz.tzutc, tz.tzoffset and zoneinfo.ZoneInfo do. This means that datetime.time objects with such a zone attached are now aware: time(12, tzinfo=tz.gettz("UTC")).isoformat() is now "12:00:00+00:00" rather than "12:00:00". (gh pr #1130)
  • tz.tzfile now infers dst() from the standard time on both sides of each DST period, rather than only the one before it, and does so for each transition rather than for each local time type. This fixes dst() for double summer time (e.g. in Europe/London in the 1940s), for half-hour DST (e.g. in Pacific/Rarotonga) and where the standard offset changed at the same time as a DST transition (e.g. in America/Bahia_Banderas in 2010). Against the standard offsets in the tz database source, the only remaining errors are in Europe/Paris in 1944 and 1945. (gh pr #1130)
  • Fixed rrulestr raising ValueError on experimental X- parameters in an RRULE line (such as GNOME Evolution's X-EVOLUTION-ENDDATE); these are now ignored as RFC 5545 permits. Fixed by @yajo (gh pr #1374)
  • Enabled pickling and deepcopy of cached rrule and rruleset instances. The cache setting is preserved, and cached results are regenerated on demand without copying locks or generators. Reported by @niccokunzmann (gh issue #1369). Fixed by @Jay1023CN (gh pr #1600).
  • Fixed relativedelta.__ne__ raising TypeError when comparing against an unsupported type such as None; it now returns True. Reported and fixed by @kevinkt1 (gh issue #1157, gh pr #1158)
  • Raised the minimum version of six to 1.6, fixing No module named 'six.moves' errors with older versions. Reported by @skytreader (gh issue #1415), fixed by @jdarias3 (gh pr #1424).

Deprecations

  • Deprecated the dateutil.zoneinfo module. The module now acts as a wrapper around the tzdata package and will be removed in a future version. Users are encouraged to migrate to dateutil.tz.gettz or the standard library's zoneinfo module. dateutil.zoneinfo.rebuild.rebuild no longer does anything, and by default raises RebuildDeprecationWarning as an error; filter the warning to call it as a no-op. (gh pr #1130)
  • Deprecated passing gettz a relative key that refers to a file outside of every directory on TZPATH, such as "../../etc/localtime". By default this now raises dateutil.tz.DeprecatedTzKeyWarning as an error; filter the warning to keep the old behavior for now, or pass an absolute path instead. (gh pr #1130)

Documentation changes

  • Added intersphinx to the docs build and cleaned up some broken links. (gh pr #1463)

Misc

Changelog

Version 3.0.0 (2026-10-21)

  • tz.tzfile objects for fixed-offset zones, such as tz.gettz("UTC"), now return their offset, DST offset and abbreviation when utcoffset, dst and tzname are called with None, as tz.tzutc, tz.tzoffset and
