Website-only changes currently rebuild the Slopcamera API even when its source and dependencies are unchanged. Add a conservative preinstall selection command that skips the API only for a nonempty diff confined to website source, assets, or scripts. Missing history, a mismatched head, non-ancestor comparisons, shared inputs, workspace manifests, and explicit same-commit redeploys continue to build.
The API source tests check physical workspace imports and runtime package exports as well as TypeScript declarations, including a package whose declarations hide a website dependency. Static asset imports are checked; the documented manual review of runtime filesystem reads found the hosted runtime uses its temporary per-request workspace and SDK assets. Future API reads from website directories must remove those directories from skip eligibility. Existing source, preview, and site-production checks stay intact.
Qualification: 2 of 25 distinct successful main-deployment transitions in a 100-deployment API sample contained only eligible website changes. One documentation-only deployment repeated ten TypeScript passes, then spent 119.390 seconds creating a 450.41 MB cache and 6.069 seconds uploading it. These are historical applicability and work measurements, not a dollar-savings forecast.
Validation:
bun run check:apipassed type checks, lint, and 44 tests / 513 assertions; the helper's focused lint passed. Independent source and boundary review passed. The exact-head full CI and preview remain the delivery gates.
