In `@autodata_examples/retarget/gr1_to_g1_pick_place.yaml`:
- Line 69: Remove the extra trailing blank line from the YAML file, leaving
exactly one newline at end of file.
In `@autodata_retargeting/gripper_retargeting.py`:
- Around line 223-226: Extend the posture validation loop around
target_eef_names to validate both open and close postures for every target EEF,
checking each against target_layout[eef_name]. Also validate source postures
using source_layout with eef_name_map applied only to select the source layout
key, while retaining the existing target-name storage and error behavior.
In `@autodata_retargeting/object_tracking.py`:
- Line 119: Update the warnings.warn call in _event_step’s unfired-event
fallback to pass 2 as the stacklevel keyword argument, preserving the
trajectory-end fallback when no transition is found.
In `@autodata_retargeting/parallel_replay.py`:
- Around line 88-90: Update _replay_one_episode’s return annotation and
docstring to describe its two-value return tuple: the task success status and
passthrough action dictionary. Keep the return value at line 276 and
_replay_worker’s two-value unpacking consistent with this contract.
- Line 1: Run the configured Black formatter on parallel_replay.py using the
repository’s pinned 120-character line length, ensuring the _async_step
signature and any other formatting match Black 24.3.0 output.
In `@autodata_retargeting/provider.py`:
- Line 1: Run Black formatting on provider.py and remove the trailing blank line
so the file matches the configured formatter output.
- Around line 118-132: Update DatasetReplayProvider’s _target_reached logic to
enforce target_runs using the number of handed-out plans (_handed_out), while
leaving the target_successes condition unchanged. Ensure next() stops issuing
plans once the handed-out count reaches the configured target_runs, preventing
excess in-flight plans in parallel execution.
In `@autodata_retargeting/replay.py`:
- Line 1009: Update the return annotation of replay_episode_on_target to
describe exactly two returned values, removing the unused third tuple element
while preserving the existing types of the boolean and dictionary results.
In `@autodata_retargeting/replayer.py`:
- Around line 1-4: Replace the copyright header in replayer.py with the
configured insert-license header: use “Copyright (c) 2026 NVIDIA CORPORATION &
AFFILIATES. All rights reserved.” followed by “SPDX-License-Identifier:
Apache-2.0”, preserving the hook’s required format.
In `@autodata_retargeting/runner.py`:
- Around line 138-143: Update the runner cleanup flow to explicitly close the
HDF5 dataset handler in the existing finally block, including empty-dataset,
successful-return, and exception paths. Construct HDF5DatasetFileHandler before
the try block, then call its close() method alongside the existing env cleanup.
In `@autodata_retargeting/util.py`:
- Around line 1-4: Replace the existing header in util.py with the
repository-configured license header from .github/LICENSE_HEADER.txt, preserving
the file’s Python content unchanged.
In `@scripts/retarget_dataset.py`:
- Around line 49-50: Update the note near the retargeted output description to
reflect that write_datagen_info preserves forwarded subtask_term_signals in
obs/datagen_info. Remove the instruction to rerun annotate_demos.py solely to
restore subtask signals, while retaining any guidance still needed before using
the output with generate_dataset.py.
- Around line 151-156: Wrap the run(args_cli, simulation_app) invocation and
KeyboardInterrupt handling in a try/finally structure so simulation_app.close()
executes on every exit path, including unhandled exceptions, while preserving
the existing interruption message.

- replay: object-framed subtask offsets now load the source object poses. need_source_objects only checked object_tracking, so an offset whose frame resolves to an object (offset.frame / object_ref / frame_ref) but with tracking disabled silently fell back to the world frame. Added a shared subtasks_need_source_objects() used by both single-env and parallel paths. - config: reject duplicate mapping keys in the descriptor (safe_load is last-key-wins, silently overriding before validation); a UniqueKey SafeLoader checks every mapping node, nested ones included. Thanks for putting this together. Currently it looks quite fully self contained with minimal reusage of existing structures from AD core. I think this is ok as a self contained experimental feature, however it's probably not something we can maintain going forward as a core feature in it's current state. @steple @njawale42 Longer term support will likely require significant refactors of most core algo code and structures which may not be what we want to pursue right now given our resources so an experimental self contained feature might be the best option.

Overall it feels like many of the structures created here are similar to existing ones in AD core. This could be hard for future maintenance.
Address PR #78 review: the duplicate-key-rejecting SafeLoader is generic, so move it from autodata_retargeting/config.py to autodata_utils/yaml_utils.py as UniqueKeySafeLoader, with a generic error message (key + YAML position) instead of retarget-specific wording. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Address PR #78 review: drop the retarget-only Subtask dataclass that overlapped with autodata_interfaces.tasks.subtask_spec.Subtask. Descriptor subtasks are now parsed into the core Subtask: object_ref/description fill the core fields and the retarget-only fields (name, frame_ref, subtask_end, object_tracking, offset) go into a new RetargetSubtaskAlgoParams (a SubtaskAlgoParams subclass) via algo_params, the same extension point MimicGen/SkillGen use. The descriptor YAML layout is unchanged; core fields that only matter to generation are rejected rather than silently ignored. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Address PR #78 review: prepare_episode took ~30 positional/keyword arguments and returned an untyped dict. - Add ReplayContext: the RetargetConfig plus the per-run artifacts resolved against the live env (adapters, passthrough remapper, success term, default state, EEF offsets, reference link, hand postures), documented field by field. prepare_episode / replay_episode_on_target / the parallel worker take it instead of long argument lists, and read the replay knobs straight from the config. - prepare_episode returns a typed PreparedEpisode dataclass. - Remove ReplayParams (a field-by-field copy of the config) and have Replayer hold the ReplayContext instead of duplicating its fields. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Address PR #78 review: replay_episode_on_target and the parallel _replay_one_episode each carried their own copy of the per-EEF step loop (scheduler, settle/sync holds, object override, datagen recording, success settle), which could silently diverge. The loop now lives once in replay.episode_steps(), a generator that yields one (target_eef_pose_dict, passthrough_action_dict) command per env step; the sequential driver encodes it and calls env.step, the parallel worker hands it to env_loop through the action queue. Both paths return a typed EpisodeOutcome. The parallel path now uses the same _score_step as the sequential one, so _monitored_miss is removed. Verified with G1<->GR1 pick-place (sequential both directions, and GR1->G1 with --num_envs 3): output actions and datagen_info are identical to the previous implementation. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Address PR #78 review: the retargeting package is a self-contained feature whose replay/segmentation logic is largely separate from the AutoData core pipeline. Flag it as experimental in the package README, the package docstring and the retarget_dataset.py entrypoint so users know its descriptor schema and API may change or be removed. Since #79 (Isaac Lab 91a0906) this env is registered as IsaacContrib-PickPlace-GR1T2-Abs; Isaac-PickPlace-GR1T2-Abs-v0 no longer exists, so this descriptor fails at env creation once merged. test_shipped_retarget_descriptors_parse only parses the YAML, so it won't catch it. Nit: "iddle" → "idle" (L47, L63).

This can hang forever at the end of a run. On the last tick task_done() wakes the holding workers in env_id order, so each lower-id worker still sees in_flight() == 1 and queues another hold before the finisher calls observe() and returns. The queue never reaches num_envs again, so env_loop never steps and never reaches its stop check. It happens whenever the last episode finishes on env_id > 0. The workers need to exit together once the provider is drained.

(1, 2, 3, 0) converts WXYZ to XYZW, so it's only right for legacy files (the shipped datasets have no format_version). Anything recorded or annotated at the pinned Lab is format_version=1 with XYZW robot_links_state, which load_episode doesn't convert (only root_pose). This scrambles it and the G1→GR1 descriptor fails the 5° link match. Pick the order from is_legacy_quaternion_format(). The comment above also says the result is (w, x, y, z); it's (x, y, z, w).

During a carry this replaces the command with source_objects[obj][ts] @ inv(grasp), so an offset on an object-tracked subtask is dropped for the whole span. The README's "place 2 cm higher" example (L161–170) is exactly this case and has no effect, and the carry error metric scores against the same un-offset path, so it doesn't show. Either apply the offset to the object target or reject offset together with object_tracking.

target_eef_poses were already retimed (L787–795), but source_base still has the original T rows, so retarget_frame: robot_base raises a shape error for any replay_speed != 1 (both shipped descriptors). Objects are also never re-anchored, so even at speed 1 the EEF path and the objects end up in different frames when the bases differ.

This records eef_pose / object_pose after env.step, but annotate_demos' PreStepDatagenInfoRecorder records them in record_pre_step, before the action is applied. So each frame is one step ahead of the recorded obs and actions, and the output isn't equivalent to an annotated dataset (cf. the docstring at L251). Reading the poses before the yield would match. Also, on current main Datastream.get_object_poses includes articulations and applies the embodiment's reference frame; this writes only scene.rigid_objects in the env frame.

autodata_tests/retargeting/ isn't in CI's pre-merge TEST_PATH (e2e/ interfaces/ core/ utils/ on main), so these only run nightly. They also cover parsing only: test_synchronization_resolves_names_from_algo_params would still pass with all sync validation deleted. The risky code is env-free tensor math (_build_offset_timeline, apply_subtask_offsets, compose_retarget_eef_offsets, iter_subtask_spans); a few targeted CPU tests there, plus one end-to-end run of retarget_dataset.py, would catch what this file can't.
Extract the replay-based retargeting path into a self-contained `autodata_retargeting` package plus `scripts/retarget_dataset.py`. Each source demo is replayed 1:1 onto a target embodiment: the recorded EEF pose trajectory is re-encoded through the target's IK env, one output demo per input demo. Features: - Per-EEF subtask segmentation from source events (gripper/signal edges, fixed length), with motion-aware boundary settling. - Hand policies (passthrough / binary / interpolation / joint_mapping) and non-EEF passthrough channels. - Object tracking over a subtask (rigid eef_T_object) with eased interp. - Per-subtask SE(3) offsets over a continuous timeline (adjacent segments blend; last subtask holds its offset). - Parallel multi-env replay (--num_envs) for throughput. - Optional datagen_info export -> drop-in generate_dataset source. Ships G1 ⇄ GR1T2 pick-and-place descriptors and g1/gr1 IK-abs embodiment descriptors; works with single-arm embodiments too. Adds a copy-mode usage guide in autodata_retargeting/README.md. Fixes 7 correctness bugs flagged in review, all verified against a live retarget_dataset.py run (sequential, speed-resampled, and parallel): - Shipped G1<->GR1 descriptors pointed at env IDs renamed by #79 (IsaacContrib-PickPlace-GR1T2-Abs / -Locomanipulation-G1-Abs); fixed the "iddle" typo alongside. - parallel_replay's end-of-run worker shutdown could hang forever: workers now synchronize on a shared _DrainBarrier instead of each independently racing provider.in_flight(), so they return together. - trajectory's robot_links_state quaternion reorder was hardcoded to the legacy WXYZ->XYZW permutation; it now reads the dataset's own is_legacy_quaternion_format() and uses identity for current XYZW files. - A subtask offset on an object-tracked carry was silently dropped (the carry override replaces the EEF command); apply_subtask_offsets now applies the same offset timeline to the tracked object's own trajectory. - retarget_frame: robot_base reanchored the EEF path after replay_speed resampling against the original-length source_base, causing a shape error for any non-1x speed; reordered to reanchor (EEF path + objects) right after env.reset_to, before resampling. - write_datagen_info recorded eef_pose/object_pose after env.step instead of before, one frame out of sync with the recorded action; moved ahead of the yield, and object_pose now mirrors Datastream.get_object_poses (reference frame + articulations) instead of a raw rigid-objects loop. - Added autodata_tests/retargeting/ to CI's pre-merge TEST_PATH, plus CPU tests for the risky math (offset timelines, carry-offset propagation, span boundary resolution, quat-order selection, drain-barrier logic). Extract the replay-based retargeting path into a self-contained
autodata_retargetingpackage plusscripts/retarget_dataset.py. Each source demo is replayed 1:1 onto a target embodiment: the recorded EEF pose trajectory is re-encoded through the target's IK env, one output demo per input demo.Features:
Ships G1 ⇄ GR1T2 pick-and-place descriptors and g1/gr1 IK-abs embodiment descriptors; works with single-arm embodiments too. Adds a copy-mode usage guide in autodata_retargeting/README.md.
