Overview

deleteRegistry deleted the registry's CronJob first and returned on any error, so a registry created without a scanFrequency (which never gets a CronJob) or one whose CronJob was removed by hand could not be deleted: the command failed with cronjobs.batch "<name>" not found on every retry and the Secret with the registry credentials and the request ConfigMap stayed in the cluster. The Job of an immediate scan was never deleted at all, and the template sets no ttlSecondsAfterFinished.

deleteRegistry now removes everything upsertRegistry creates: the CronJob, the Job, the Secret and the ConfigMap. An object that is not there is not an error, every delete is attempted, and the first other error is returned. The Job and the CronJob are deleted with background propagation, since the API's default for a Job leaves its pods behind.

How to Test

go test -race -skip TestRegistryCommandWatch ./watcher/
  • TestDeleteRegistryRemovesEverythingTheRegistryHad: a fake cluster with two registries' objects; deleting one, with and without a schedule, removes its Secret, ConfigMap, Job and CronJob and leaves the other registry's. On main the "without a schedule" case fails: the delete returns NotFound and the Secret and ConfigMap stay.
  • TestDeleteRegistryDeletesJobsWithTheirPods: the Job and CronJob deletes carry background propagation.
  • TestDeleteRegistryReportsTheFirstFailureAfterTryingEverything: a failing Secret delete is returned and the ConfigMap, Job and CronJob are still removed.

TestRegistryCommandWatch (k3s in Docker) still covers the scheduled case end to end and is unchanged.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Deleting a registry now removes all associated Kubernetes resources, including secrets, configuration, jobs, and scheduled jobs.
    • Cleanup continues across all associated resources even if one deletion fails.
    • Missing resources no longer cause deletion to fail.
    • Deletions now correctly remove associated job pods while leaving resources for other registries unaffected.
  • Tests

    • Added coverage for complete cleanup, pod removal, isolated registry handling, and error reporting.

📝 Walkthrough

Registry deletion now attempts to remove the CronJob, Job, Secret, and ConfigMap. It ignores NotFound errors, continues after other deletion errors, and returns the first such error. Tests cover resource removal, background propagation, and failure handling.

Changes: Registry deletion

Layer / File(s) Summary
Delete registry resources and validate behavior
watcher/registryhandler.go, watcher/registryhandler_test.go
deleteRegistry attempts to delete each resource and ignores NotFound errors. It uses background propagation for CronJobs and Jobs, continues after failures, and returns the first non-NotFound error. Tests cover scheduled and unscheduled registries, preserve unrelated resources, and check deletion errors.

Explanation

Issue #448 requires deletion of the Secret, ConfigMap, immediate-scan Job, and optional CronJob. deleteRegistry attempts all four resources with the registry name. It ignores NotFound errors, records the first other error, and continues with the remaining deletes. It uses background propagation for the Job and CronJob. upsertRegistry creates the Job and CronJob with the same name, and the added tests cover both schedule states, propagation, and continued deletion after a failure.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes are limited to the Issue #448 deletion behavior and its automated tests. The production change adds targeted Kubernetes error handling and deletion calls. The tests verify resource isolation, missing optional CronJobs, propagation policy, and first-error behavior. No unrelated implementation change is shown.

Inject a second deletion error

This test configures an error only for Secret deletion. It cannot detect a regression that overwrites an earlier error with a later one. Make the CronJob deletion fail first and the Secret deletion fail later, then assert that the CronJob error is returned.

Approved at 75de20d against main (98eda6b). No blocking findings.

The fix is needed: main still returns on a missing optional CronJob before removing credentials/configuration, and never deletes the standalone immediate-scan Job. The new deletes match creation names/namespace, ignore only NotFound, continue cleanup while preserving the first other error, and request background cascading deletion for Jobs/CronJobs. Existing chart RBAC permits Job deletion.

History: #448 establishes the intended behavior. Merged #252/#264 introduced the registry handler/immediate scan; #447 migrates schedule templates and does not supersede this cleanup. Repository-wide issue/PR searches across all states for registry, deleteRegistry, registryhandler.go, cronjob, NotFound and delete+registry found no competing fix; this is a bounded indexed search, not proof of absence. Closed #285 concerns logging, with no rejection of this deletion approach; #255 removed a legacy test, not registry cleanup.

Validation: inspected both changed files, creation/caller paths and existing integration coverage; gofmt -d is clean. Basic-Test logs for this head show all three new tests and TestRegistryCommandWatch passing; build, integration-build and CodeQL checks are green. Local isolated go test -race -run '^TestDeleteRegistry' ./watcher/ was attempted: Go 1.26.8 initially rejected the required 1.26.9; an auto-toolchain retry was stopped during setup/compilation without a test result. No local race-test pass or before/after reproduction is claimed.

Nonblocking limitations: fake-client propagation assertions do not exercise actual pod garbage collection, which is asynchronous. CodeRabbit's existing suggestion to inject two deletion errors would improve first-error regression coverage; the implementation itself correctly preserves the first error. Independent code and architecture reviews found no blockers. PR remained open, non-draft, mergeable, with unchanged head/base and no new reviews immediately before submission.
