Summary

Mistral reports zai-glm-5-3 as text-only, but its preset does not enroll the model in the vision sidecar. The generated Codex catalog therefore blocks image attachments before they reach the proxy.

Declare the model's native input as text-only in the Mistral preset. Existing registry enrichment then publishes image attachment support and routes images through the vision describer. For example, a pasted screenshot reaches the sidecar, and GLM receives its text description.

The Mistral model reference confirms text-only native input. This is a separate preset omission related to the catalog failure described in #349.

Verification

  • Before the fix, the new regression file has 3 passing and 3 failing cases. Failures cover catalog attachment support, sidecar execution, and disabled-sidecar image removal.
  • bun run test tests/vision tests/codex-integration/catalog-vision-sidecar-modalities.test.ts tests/codex-integration/catalog-vision-sidecar-disabled.test.ts tests/test-layout.test.ts tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts tests/lab/core-lab-boundary.test.ts tests/ci-workflows/repo-hygiene.test.ts: 354 pass, 0 fail, 1,792 assertions across 28 files. Provider inference is mocked. Tests cover native vision, operator overrides, disabled sidecars, and provider isolation.
  • bun run typecheck, bun run privacy:scan, and bun run structure:check: pass.
  • cd docs-site && bun install --frozen-lockfile && bun run build: pass, 577 pages and 81,423 internal links.
  • bun run test --changed=2a10a2bc450067e3b475315ffeaefc4bb5b52ab4: 40,893 pass, 113 skip, 29 fail across 1,885 files. All eight new cases pass.
  • Baseline check with production source matching unchanged upstream: the eight failing files produce 225 pass, 2 skip, and the same 29 failure names. The verified patch was restored byte-for-byte. No new failure names.
  • Full-suite validation was not repeated after the 41,035-test affected run. The explicit focused run also covers layout and source-as-data guards. Broader CI and review remain pending; keep this PR in draft.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Review readiness checklist

This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:

  • Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.

  • I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).

  • I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.

  • My PR is ready for review.

Summary by CodeRabbit

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • With the Vision sidecar enabled, Mistral’s zai-glm-5-3 route can process image attachments using generated descriptions. The Codex catalog advertises image support for this route; without the sidecar, it remains text-only. Explicit modality settings take precedence.
  • Documentation
    • Updated guidance explains the route’s text-only model declaration and sidecar behavior. No modality override is needed. Sync and reload Codex, or restart it to refresh the catalog; restarting ends live conversations. Added links to sync instructions and model references.

* Declare GLM 5.3 native text input for vision sidecar enrollment.
* Cover catalog publication, image preprocessing, and operator overrides.
* Document image attachment support and client catalog refresh.

📝 Walkthrough

The Mistral registry now declares zai-glm-5-3 as text-only. Tests cover its discovery, modality precedence, and image-request behavior with the Vision sidecar enabled, disabled, or bypassed for native vision. Documentation describes catalog attachment support and the required client refresh.

Fixed in 29d5b7002. The guide now names ocx sync, full desktop quit and relaunch, and VS Code window reload. It also explains ocx sync --restart-codex, its effect on active conversations, and how to verify image attachment support after relaunch.

The documentation build passes: 577 pages and 81,424 internal links. The whitespace check also passes.

Please verify the correction and resolve the addressed review thread.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Assert the provider override in the GLM catalog row.

This test checks the override through requiresVisionPreprocessing, but it does not check the catalog projection. A projection regression could leave preprocessing disabled while the GLM row omits "image", causing app-side consumers to block image attachments.

Suggested fix
     const models = await gatherRoutedModels(withStubbedProviderFetch(config));
+    expect(models.find(row => row.provider === "mistral" && row.id === GLM)?.inputModalities).toEqual(["text", "image"]);
     expect(models.find(row => row.provider === "mistral" && row.id === NATIVE)?.inputModalities).toEqual(["text", "image"]);

Scoped review at f12ff1b67a: the registry change only marks the exact Mistral zai-glm-5-3 model text-only, enrolling it in the existing vision-sidecar path; it must not change native vision models or an operator's explicit modality override. The corrected canonical-catalog assertion and focused routing regressions are useful; keep disabled-sidecar refusal and the no-image request controls explicit. Current head has successful quality/target/bot checks but no functional CI execution in its rollup. Holding approval for head-bound validation; this review did not call Mistral or a paid sidecar.

Carried into #7394 (squash 74463a2) on dev with a Co-authored-by trailer, as part of the B4 provider-adapter bundle. It ships in the next release (2.90.0). Thanks!
