Summary

  • aggregateAttemptUsage summed cachedInputTokens and cacheReadInputTokens independently. Anthropic usage sets both fields; an OpenAI-shaped attempt sets only cachedInputTokens. Row-level readers take cacheReadInputTokens ?? cachedInputTokens (request-log.ts, management/shared.ts), so a row aggregating an Anthropic leg (60 read) and an OpenAI-shaped leg (40 cached) reported 60 cache reads instead of 100. Cost is priced per attempt (computeEntryCost), so this is row telemetry only, not money.
  • Once any attempt reports cacheReadInputTokens, the aggregate's read field now counts each attempt's cacheReadInputTokens ?? cachedInputTokens. cachedInputTokens is summed as before, and rows whose attempts never report the read field are unchanged.
  • Only src/server/request-log.ts changes (+4/-1).

Verification

  • New test cache reads sum across attempts that report them under different fields in tests/usage/request-log-attempt-identity.test.ts, run before the src change: 1 fail ("cacheReadInputTokens": 60 where 100 was expected). After: bun test tests/usage/ -> 1184 pass, 0 fail.
  • bun x tsc --noEmit -> exit 0. bun scripts/file-size-ratchet.ts -> passed.
  • bun run test:changed (Bun 1.4.3 via OCX_TEST_RUNNER_BUN, OCX_TEST_MAIN_TIMEOUT_MS=2400000 on a loaded machine) -> 16940 pass, 34 skip, 6 fail across 692 files. Four failures stalled for about 946 s in a machine-wide pause and a fifth (responses-send-budget-counts, 1.3 s) flaked under load; all pass alone (github-copilot-auto-runtime, responses-send-budget-counts, server-auth: 208 pass, 0 fail; messages-native: 102 pass, 0 fail). The sixth, tests/cli/cli-connect-readiness.test.ts "a rejected preferred runtime falls back without rewriting the saved selection", also fails on an unmodified upstream/dev 8640c2f checkout on this machine (local-environment dependent) and is unrelated to usage logging.
  • Full bun run test was not run locally: test:changed already covered the changed module's import graph; the remainder is left to CI.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed. (No docs change needed: usage aggregation only.)
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults. (No secrets or auth behaviour touched.)

Source: carried from the vadymhimself fork build (cache-read unification in aggregateAttemptUsage, commit 8fb1bbb), re-authored smaller: cachedInputTokens keeps its own sum, and the fork's other usage changes are not carried here (the status change is #7336).

Review readiness checklist

This PR stays in draft until every box below is ticked. Tick all four boxes once the requirements are met:

  • Required local validation passed; commands, results, and any full-suite exception are documented.

  • I pushed my PR to a recent dev commit (at most 10 behind; a maintainer may still ask for the exact tip before merge).

  • I resolved all correct Codex and CodeRabbit findings.

  • My PR is ready for review.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Cache-read token totals now include cached input reported under different usage fields across attempts, improving the accuracy of aggregated usage counts.
    • Existing behavior is preserved when no attempt reports cache-read input tokens: the aggregate cache-read field remains omitted.

📝 Walkthrough

aggregateAttemptUsage now falls back to each attempt’s cachedInputTokens when it lacks cacheReadInputTokens. A test checks aggregation across attempts that report cached tokens under different fields.

Changes: Usage aggregation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Cached token fallback and test
src/server/request-log.ts, tests/usage/request-log-attempt-identity.test.ts
The aggregation uses cachedInputTokens as a fallback for attempts without cacheReadInputTokens, when at least one attempt reports the read-specific field. The test expects both aggregate fields to equal 100 for mixed Anthropic and OpenAI usage data.

Comment thread src/server/request-log.ts
aggregateAttemptUsage summed `cachedInputTokens` and `cacheReadInputTokens`
independently. Anthropic usage sets both; an OpenAI-shaped attempt sets only
`cachedInputTokens`. Row-level readers take `cacheReadInputTokens ??
cachedInputTokens` (request-log, management/shared.ts), so a row aggregating an
Anthropic leg (60 read) and an OpenAI-shaped leg (40 cached) reported 60 cache
reads instead of 100. Cost is priced per attempt and is not affected.

Once any attempt reports `cacheReadInputTokens`, the aggregate's read field now
counts each attempt's `cacheReadInputTokens ?? cachedInputTokens`. Rows whose
attempts never report the read field are unchanged.

Intake/scoped review at b2780f521460dd97d7a3d26a2b2a2a893864c7e6.

The mixed-field aggregation uses each attempt's cacheReadInputTokens ?? cachedInputTokens once the explicit field exists, preserving an explicit zero instead of falling through. The regression spans one Anthropic-shaped and one OpenAI-shaped leg. This is a scoped static accounting review; it is not live billing or full retry validation.

Current-head functional workflows are awaiting fork approval; that is pending execution, not a passing test result. No local suite was run for this branch in this intake. No workflow approval, new scan, live configuration change or merge was performed. Required review/readiness gates remain in force.

Landed on dev as part of the dispatch/usage/failover bundle #7389 (squash bddd61f), with Co-authored-by credit. Adaptations are listed in #7389 (ratchet move for #7323/#7373; the Kiro hop is now fenced to the adapter the failed leg actually resolved). Closing as absorbed. Thank you!
