• On macOS every thread-local access calls _tlv_get_addr; about 20% of a tight PL/pgSQL loop

• Every single-row INSERT or UPDATE parses all CHECK constraints of the table again (as in C); a per-relation cache of parsed trees

• PlanStateNode is 1,016 bytes, so every plan node is moved at that size during executor start-up

• The node-string tokenizer (next_token) is slower than pg_strtok; it runs over every CHECK constraint per inserted row

• PL/pgSQL rebuilds and compiles assignment casts on every call

malisper/pgrust#131 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Every SPI statement execution copies the full statement text for the error context

malisper/pgrust#130 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• PL/pgSQL assignments run the plan re-analysis probe on every execution

malisper/pgrust#129 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Every PL/pgSQL call creates and drops four root memory contexts

malisper/pgrust#128 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Each PL/pgSQL function-cache lookup creates and drops a memory context to check the search_path

malisper/pgrust#127 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Every PL/pgSQL record field reference looks the field up by name with a linear string scan

malisper/pgrust#126 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Every PL/pgSQL row-trigger call rebuilds the row shape, and RETURN NEW rebuilds an unchanged tuple field by field

malisper/pgrust#125 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Row assignment to a record allocates one copy per by-reference field instead of one tuple copy

malisper/pgrust#124 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Assigning a row to a RECORD variable copies the result descriptor and clones the RecDesc on every assignment

malisper/pgrust#123 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• Assigning a compatible row to a %ROWTYPE variable copies two descriptors and casts every field

malisper/pgrust#122 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• SELECT ... INTO a, b copies the result descriptor and builds a RecDesc on every execution

malisper/pgrust#121 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• PL/pgSQL row assignment reads each field with SPI_getbinval, so SELECT ... INTO costs O(N²) in the column count

malisper/pgrust#120 · Filter by author suleymanozkeskin opened on Sep 27, 2026

• FieldSelect copies the row type descriptor on every evaluation, so (row).* costs O(N²) in the column count

• Since the portal source-text borrow (malisper/portal-source-text-borrow-wasip1), PortalDefineQuery keeps the text of each Bind, EXECUTE and cursor in TopPortalContext until the session ends

• Statement-heavy scripts run 1.4–2.0× PostgreSQL 18.6 natively; the extra is per statement, and the planner is the largest part
