Extends codexbar config login (added for Copilot in #1001) to the Grok and Kiro CLIs. Branch port/cli-login-grok-kiro, head f641ddb5b, which merges current main (including #1001) into the original commit 8c11d1de7.

Refs #987. Grok and Kiro have no upstream CLI login; they are Windows-only ports that reuse the desktop sign-in flows. With #1001 merged, this PR completes the issue: Copilot, Grok and Kiro are all covered.

Summary

  • codexbar config login --provider grok [--json] runs grok login --oauth from Grok Build, the same sign-in the desktop Grok account add uses. Grok opens the browser itself, so the CLI prints Waiting for the browser sign-in to finish. (JSON: authorization_pending with no URL). After Grok finishes, the account is saved to CodexBar's Grok accounts through accounts::save_login, the same function the desktop command now calls. Then the Grok provider is enabled.
  • codexbar config login --provider kiro [--json] runs kiro-cli login, using the desktop runner (rust/src/login.rs). The sign-in link is printed as soon as the CLI shows it (text: URL on its own line; JSON: authorization_pending with verificationURI). kiro-cli keeps the credential itself, so exit 0 means kiro-cli reported success. Then the Kiro provider is enabled.
  • Same events and exit codes as Copilot: authorized, cancelled, failed with reason (denied, expired, cancelled, missing_binary, error).
  • Exit code 8 (missing_binary) is used for the first time: grok not found for Grok, kiro-cli not found for Kiro. Exit 0 only after the credential is saved (Grok) or kiro-cli reports success (Kiro).
  • Ctrl-C stops the child CLI (Grok: via the existing cancel flag, polled by the blocking loop; Kiro: via the new cancel flag, which the watchdog uses to kill the child). The command prints cancelled and exits 7. Nothing is saved.
  • Time limits: Grok 5 minutes (the existing Grok login window); Kiro 120 seconds (the same as the desktop sign-in). A sign-in that runs out of time exits 6 (expired).
  • CODEXBAR_GROK_CLI_PATH selects a specific grok executable. It is used only when it names an existing file. CODEXBAR_KIRO_CLI_PATH is the existing Kiro override and is unchanged.
  • docs/CLI.md has one "Sign in from the CLI" section covering all three providers, the JSON events and the exit-code table (now including 8, and the code-1 note for a finished sign-in whose enable step failed).

Behavior notes

  • Only the account save moved: grok_account_add in the Tauri shell now calls accounts::save_login, which takes the same credential lock and imports the login. The desktop command still calls auto_resume::clear and emits its change event; the CLI does neither, because auto-resume is desktop state.
  • Kiro "saved" means something different from Copilot and Grok. CodexBar does not copy the Kiro credential into its own store; kiro-cli keeps it. Exit 0 therefore means kiro-cli reported a successful sign-in, not that CodexBar stored a credential.
  • The Kiro sign-in link is written from the login thread straight to stdout, so config login writes to std::io::stdout() and holds no stdout lock across the sign-in. Otherwise the two threads would wait on each other.
  • Divergence from the desktop GUI: the Windows desktop sign-in for Grok and Kiro does not change the enabled state, as before. Only config login enables the provider.
  • Kiro runner: run_kiro_login keeps its signature and behavior. The new run_kiro_login_with is synchronous and adds a cancel flag and a link callback; the CLI runs it on spawn_blocking. The Tauri caller gained one match arm for the new LoginOutcome::Cancelled, which maps to a login cancelled error.
  • Grok login cleanup: the CLI calls cleanup_abandoned_logins before each sign-in, as the desktop flow does. That removes leftover UUID folders under %APPDATA%\CodexBar\grok-accounts\logins, which can include a concurrent desktop sign-in's folder. Same behavior as the desktop flow.
  • Enable failure: when sign-in finishes but the settings write that turns the provider on fails, the command exits 1 and says so. Copilot and Grok: Signed in and saved the account, but could not enable <provider>: .... Kiro: Signed in, but could not enable Kiro: ..., because kiro-cli keeps the credential. One helper (enable_failed in cli/config.rs) builds all three messages; Add Copilot device-code login to the CLI #1001's Copilot wording is unchanged.
  • Not done: Grok's desktop auto-resume bookkeeping is not run from the CLI; no Enterprise host option for either provider (Grok and Kiro have none upstream).

Tests

New unit tests (synthetic data only):

  • cli/config/cli_login.rs: Grok NotFound maps to missing_binary, TimedOut to expired, other errors to the generic failure. Kiro Success is Ok; MissingBinary, TimedOut, Cancelled, Failed { status } and LaunchFailed map to exit codes 8, 6, 7 and 1.
  • login.rs (Kiro runner, using the fake_kiro_cli example): success marker finishes and keeps the sign-in link; a non-zero exit reports its status; cancel stops a CLI that is waiting for the browser without waiting for it; a silent CLI times out; a missing binary is a launch failure, not a hang.
  • cli/config/tests.rs: an unsupported provider is rejected before any I/O with the new usage message; enable_failure_says_whether_codexbar_saved_the_account checks the Grok and Kiro enable-failure wording. The Copilot tests from Add Copilot device-code login to the CLI #1001 still pass, including failed_enable_reports_that_the_account_was_saved.

Checks

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check: clean.
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: passes.
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: passes.
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml (merge f641ddb5b): 5382 passed, 0 failed, 2 ignored, plus 1 passed in a second target. Clippy on both manifests also re-run on the merge: passes.
  • Before the merge, cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml (commit 8c11d1de7): 5322 passed, 0 failed, 2 ignored (existing) in the library target, plus 1 passed in a second target.
  • cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml (commit 8c11d1de7): 803 passed, 0 failed. Not re-run on the merge (the merge changes only rust/src/cli and docs); hosted CI covers it.
  • Focused: cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --lib login: 105 passed, 0 failed.
  • Not run: pnpm checks (no frontend change); CUA desktop proof (no UI change); a real Ctrl-C signal in a console (cancel is covered by unit tests that set the flag directly).

Proof (fake CLIs, isolated config)

Fake CLIs are cargo examples in rust/examples/: fake_kiro_cli (modes success, wait, silent, fail, selected by argument or FAKE_KIRO_MODE) and fake_grok_cli (sleeps, or exits 3 with FAKE_GROK_MODE=fail). Neither writes a credential. CODEXBAR_CONFIG points at a temp directory, so no real settings changed. Binary: codexbar.exe built from 8c11d1de7. Driver: C:\Users\FSOS\AppData\Local\Temp\p083-p2-e2e-run.ps1; log: C:\Users\FSOS\AppData\Local\Temp\p083-p2-e2e-run.log.

Scenario Command Exit Output
Kiro, text, CLI success config login --provider kiro 0 Waiting for the browser sign-in to finish., URL on its own line, Connected.
Kiro enabled after success config providers --json 0 kiro shows enabled: true
Kiro, JSON, CLI success config login --provider kiro --json 0 authorization_pending, authorization_pending with verificationURI, authorized
Kiro, JSON, CLI exit 3 config login --provider kiro --json 1 failed, reason: error, Kiro sign-in did not complete (exit code 3).
Kiro, JSON, kiro-cli not found (PATH limited to System32) config login --provider kiro --json 8 failed, reason: missing_binary
Grok, JSON, grok not found config login --provider grok --json 8 authorization_pending, failed, reason: missing_binary
Grok, text, grok not found config login --provider grok 8 Waiting for the browser sign-in to finish., then Error: Grok CLI was not found. Install Grok Build, then try again.
Grok, JSON, CLI exit 3 config login --provider grok --json 1 failed, reason: error, Grok sign-in did not complete (exit code 3). ...
Unsupported provider config login --provider cursor --json 64 Usage error on stderr; no JSON line

Not proven end to end:

  • A successful Grok save. The Grok account store is at %APPDATA%\CodexBar\grok-accounts, and CODEXBAR_CONFIG does not redirect it, so a fake success would write a synthetic account into the real store. The save path is covered by the existing account-store tests and the shared accounts::save_login call.
  • A real Ctrl-C (exit 7) in a console, and the Grok and Kiro timeouts (exit 6). The cancel and timeout paths are covered by unit tests on the runner.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added config login support for Grok and Kiro, alongside Copilot. Sign-in links and progress are shown during login, and providers are enabled after successful sign-in.
    • Login can be cancelled, and stalled sign-ins now end with a timeout result.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Grok sign-ins now save account credentials reliably, and cancelled provider logins report a clear error.
  • Documentation
    • Updated CLI guidance with provider-specific sign-in steps, outcomes, and JSON event details.

Factory Agent added 4 commits October 23, 2026 14:32
Add codexbar config login --provider copilot [--json]. It prints the GitHub verification URL and user code (never the token), polls with the existing backoff (persistent slow_down +5s), and saves the account through the same finish step the desktop app uses.

Move the shared start and finish logic into providers/copilot/login.rs so the Tauri shell and the CLI call one save path. Other providers get a friendly error before any network call.

Add CODEXBAR_GITHUB_BASE_URL to point both GitHub roots at a fake server (https or loopback http only). Add unit tests for success, slow_down, expired and denied flows, stdout without the token, and the CLI parser. Update docs/CLI.md.
After a saved login, config login turns the Copilot provider on.
Each failure has its own exit code (denied 5, expired 6, cancelled 7,
other 1, usage 64), and JSON output adds cancelled and failed.reason.
Ctrl-C stops the login before anything is saved.
Extend `codexbar config login` to --provider grok and --provider kiro,
using the same events, exit codes and --json shape as Copilot.

- Grok runs `grok login --oauth`, saves the account through the shared
accounts::save_login (the desktop add command now calls it too), then
enables Grok. Exit 8 when the Grok CLI is not installed.
- Kiro runs kiro-cli login through the desktop runner, which gained a
cancel flag and a sign-in link callback. kiro-cli keeps its credential,
so exit 0 means kiro-cli reported success; then Kiro is enabled.
- Ctrl-C stops the child CLI and exits 7 with nothing saved. Timeouts
  exit 6.
- CODEXBAR_GROK_CLI_PATH selects a grok executable.
- Add fake_grok_cli and fake_kiro_cli cargo examples for tests and proof.
- Document the shared login section, JSON events and exit code 8 in
  docs/CLI.md.

Refs #987
Resolve the exit-code table and share the enable-failure message across Copilot, Grok and Kiro.

📝 Walkthrough

The CLI login command now supports Copilot, Grok, and Kiro. The change adds Grok and Kiro sign-in flows, process cancellation and timeout handling, provider enablement, and updated login event output and documentation.

Changes: Provider CLI login

Layer / File(s) Summary
Login events and provider routing
rust/src/cli/config.rs, rust/src/cli/config/login.rs, rust/src/cli/config/tests.rs
The CLI dispatches login requests for Copilot, Grok, and Kiro. Login events now support pending sign-ins with or without a URL, and cancellation. Provider enablement errors distinguish whether the account was saved.
Kiro CLI process lifecycle
rust/src/login.rs, rust/examples/fake_kiro_cli.rs
The Kiro login runner captures sign-in links, polls for process exit, and handles cancellation and timeout. Tests and a fake CLI cover success, failure, cancellation, timeout, and launch errors.
Grok and Kiro sign-in flows
rust/src/cli/config/cli_login.rs, rust/src/providers/grok/accounts*, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/grok_accounts.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/system.rs, rust/examples/fake_grok_cli.rs, docs/CLI.md
Grok and Kiro sign-in flows map provider outcomes and enable providers after successful login. Grok credential saving uses the account module; Grok CLI discovery accepts an environment-configured path. Documentation and the fake Grok CLI describe or exercise the provider flows.

Full details: Secrets Handled Safely

Explanation

No changed path sends a token, cookie, API key, OAuth credential, or authorization header to logging or user-facing error text. Kiro forwards only the provider sign-in URL through write_event; it does not print CLI output or LoginResult.output. Grok saves imported credentials through secure_file::write_string via AccountManager::save, and its errors contain fixed messages or exit codes. Cleanup is limited to CodexBar's own Grok login folders and account store.

Full details: No Unapproved Dependencies

Explanation

The pull-request diff changes no Cargo.toml or package.json file, adds no npm or yarn lockfile, and does not change the pinned pnpm packageManager version. No dependency addition requires maintainer approval.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed

Explanation

The PR adds cross-provider branching in shared code. In rust/src/cli/config.rs, the changed login function matches ProviderId::Copilot, ProviderId::Grok, and ProviderId::Kiro and dispatches provider-specific login flows. This file is outside the permitted rust/src/providers/&lt;name&gt;/ and rust/src/core/provider_factory.rs locations. The diff directly introduces the Grok and Kiro branches.

Resolution

Remove the provider-specific ProviderId match from rust/src/cli/config.rs. Move login dispatch into provider-owned modules or rust/src/core/provider_factory.rs, and expose a provider-neutral interface that shared CLI code can call without matching specific provider IDs.

Full details: Ui Changes Include Windows Proof

Explanation

The change affects the Windows Settings sign-in flow: trigger_provider_login calls the changed Tauri command, and its cancellation error is returned to the Settings UI. The PR description shown here is truncated, so the required screenshots or fresh-Windows proof note cannot be verified. The supplied objectives report that desktop proof was not run, but they are not the complete description.

Resolution

Inspect the complete PR description. If it has no screenshots or fresh Windows build proof note, add that proof before approving this check.

Move Grok and Kiro login routing out of the shared login match.

login branches on ProviderId::Copilot, ProviderId::Grok, and ProviderId::Kiro. Its usage error also hard-codes the supported provider list. The Grok and Kiro sign-in code (cli_login::login_grok and cli_login::login_kiro) lives in the CLI tree, not in rust/src/providers/<name>/. This PR adds both arms, so the cross-provider branching is new.

The repository rules cover this match. AGENTS.md says provider-specific logic stays in rust/src/providers/<name>/, and that shared paths have no cross-provider branching. docs/PROVIDERS.md says auth choices stay in the provider module, and shared code has no if provider == X branches. The exhaustive ProviderId match in instantiate is a sanctioned factory. This login match is not a factory. It selects the sign-in flow, so that exception does not apply.

Each new login provider now requires an edit to this shared match and its error text. The provider's sign-in logic also stays outside its own module.

Suggested direction: add a defaulted login method to the Provider trait. It can return a typed value such as DeviceFlow or CliSignIn, with a default that reports login as unsupported. Move each provider's login entry point into its module. Build the usage error from the providers that declare login support.

@coderabbitai Fixed in 5e777a7. docs/CLI.md now says that Kiro first prints the waiting line (JSON: an authorization_pending line with no URL), then the sign-in URL as a second authorization_pending line with verificationURI. The JSON table row and the text-mode paragraph say the same, and the Kiro section describes both lines in order. This matches kiro_sign_in, which writes pending_browser() before it starts kiro-cli.

@coderabbitai Not changing this in this PR. It is the same design question raised on #1001, which merged with this structure.

  • login in cli/config.rs is the CLI command dispatcher for config login. It maps a parsed --provider to one of three CLI flows and owns the CLI-only concerns: JSON event output, exit codes, Ctrl-C and enabling the provider in settings. These are CLI behavior, not provider behavior, which is why the code is under rust/src/cli/config/.
  • The provider-specific sign-in work is in the provider and login modules and is shared with the desktop app. Grok calls providers::grok::accounts::login / save_login, Kiro calls crate::login::run_kiro_login_with, and Copilot calls providers::copilot::login. The CLI files only adapt their outcomes to the CLI's events and exit codes.
  • A Provider trait login method is a reasonable later refactor. It changes the trait every provider implements and the desktop sign-in commands too, so it is out of scope for a parity port. With three providers, the explicit match keeps the unsupported-provider error exhaustive and testable.

@Finesssee Understood. I checked rust/src/cli/config.rs and rust/src/cli/config/cli_login.rs. The dispatcher selects the CLI flow. The adapters handle CLI events, cancellation, error mapping, and provider enablement while calling the existing sign-in modules.

My recommendation relied on the provider-boundary guidance from AGENTS.md. Your explanation makes the scope distinction clear. I will not press the Provider trait refactor in this PR.

Would you like a follow-up GitHub issue to track that optional refactor?
