Summary

Claude OAuth usage now reads saved limit-reset credits, which only the Web source did before.

  • GET /api/oauth/usage?cedar_ember=1 opts in to the cedar_ember block. The block is parsed by the existing reset_credits::inventory_from_block and attached as the same display-only reset-credits inventory item the Web source produces.
  • If Claude rejects the optional query with HTTP 400, or with a 403 whose body does not name the missing user:profile scope, the request is sent once more without the query. The result of that second request goes through the existing status handling, so quota and Extra usage still appear.
  • 401, 429, 5xx and a missing-scope 403 are not retried and keep their current errors. A 429 after the fallback still records the per-account usage-gate block.
  • The OAuth usage gate stores the last good response body on disk (%LOCALAPPDATA%\CodexBar\claude-oauth-usage-gate.json). The cedar_ember block is now redacted before it is stored (reset_credits::redact_usage_body): only eligible and the grant fields the parser reads are kept, so grant ids and labels (redemption handles) never reach disk, while a cached body still yields the same inventory. The gate test also checks that the cached five_hour and extra_usage values equal the live response.
  • RESET_OPT_IN_QUERY moves from web_api.rs to reset_credits.rs so both paths share it. Web retry semantics are unchanged.
  • The fetcher takes its API base, usage gate and CLI version source as fields so wire tests run against a local mock server with an in-memory gate and a pinned version, never the shared gate file.

User-Agent parity (upstream 0.77.0)

  • The opt-in request sends claude-cli/<version> (external, cli).
  • The fallback retry sends claude-code/<version>.
  • <version> comes from claude --version through the existing cli_binary::detect_claude_version helper. It runs on a blocking thread and is cached for 30 minutes (upstream's TTL). Failed detections are not cached.
  • When detection fails or returns nothing usable, <version> is 2.1.0 (upstream fallbackClaudeCodeVersion).
  • Upstream takes the first whitespace token of claude --version. The port takes the first dotted-number token (extract_semver). For the CLI's <semver> (Claude Code) output both give the same version.

Wire tests assert both headers with mockito match_header("user-agent", ...). A fallback test covers detection failure.

Upstream reference

  • Upstream 0.72.0 U3, ClaudeOAuthUsageFetcher.swift (?cedar_ember=1, decode cedar_ember, retry once without it on 400/403 unless the body names user:profile).
  • Upstream 0.77.0 ClaudeOAuth/ClaudeOAuthUsageFetcher.swift (User-Agent: claude-cli/<ver> (external, cli) on the opt-in request, claude-code/<ver> on the fallback; fallbackClaudeCodeVersion = "2.1.0").
  • Commits 05a6a4344631b633813ffefc3732dd5ac1c83974 (Read Claude OAuth limit reset inventory safely) and merge 4bd90c43b924670896ca7c5c7a8080ac8dd04654 (fix(claude): preserve live OAuth reset inventory; refs feat(claude): expose saved usage-limit resets in CLI JSON steipete/CodexBar#3895, Read Claude OAuth limit reset inventory safely steipete/CodexBar#4232).
  • Tests mirror Tests/CodexBarTests/ClaudeOAuthResetCreditsTests.swift at 4bd90c43b: opt-in success, 400/403 fallback, no retry on 401/403-scope/429/500, two-request cap, terminal errors and the rate-limit block after the fallback, malformed blocks, and the grant record cap (200/201). Upstream's cancellation test has no direct Rust equivalent (dropping the future cancels both requests).

Commands run

Head 907178d41 (merges origin/main through 60b589ec8, which includes #917; the User-Agent change is in 9bd3459f3):

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check: clean
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml claude: 418 passed, 0 failed, 1 ignored
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml settings: 233 passed, 0 failed (covers the settings changes from Never overwrite an unreadable settings file #917 that this merge brought in)

Earlier on 9bd3459f3: reset_opt_in 19 passed, 0 failed (includes user_agent_strings_follow_upstream_format and user_agents_fall_back_to_the_default_version_when_detection_fails). Full runs on the pre-merge head (not repeated on the newest head): cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml 4800 passed, with one flaky accounts::tests::saving_claude_code_login_as_shared_copy_is_not_eligible that passed on rerun; cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml 689 passed.

UI impact

UI-affecting: proof to follow. A Claude account fetched through OAuth that has saved limit resets now gets the existing "Limit Reset Credits" row on its card (the same row and visibility toggle the Web source already uses). No frontend code changed.

Merge note

Both this branch and #923 (Claude OAuth email background lookup) add a CHANGELOG.md bullet at the top of ## [Windows] Unreleased, so whichever merges second needs a small CHANGELOG conflict resolved by keeping both bullets. #923 has already been re-merged with origin/main through 60b589ec8; it will need one more merge of this branch's head once #919 lands.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Claude usage now includes eligible limit-reset credits, with counts and expiration dates visible in the desktop tray.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Claude usage requests fall back to the standard request format when the optional reset-credit data is rejected, while preserving normal handling of authentication, scope, and rate-limit errors.
    • Cached usage keeps reset-credit counts and dates without storing redemption details.

📝 Walkthrough

Claude OAuth usage requests now opt in to reset-credit data and retry without the opt-in for eligible rejections. The implementation extracts reset-credit inventory and redacts grant details from cached usage. Tray proof scenarios cover visible, hidden, and absent reset-credit inventory.

Changes: Claude reset-credit support

Layer / File(s) Summary
Reset-credit data and redaction
rust/src/providers/claude/reset_credits.rs, rust/src/providers/claude/reset_credits/tests.rs, rust/src/providers/claude/web_api.rs
A shared query constant enables reset-credit requests. OAuth usage-body redaction retains eligible status and allowlisted grant fields while removing other grant data. Web API code imports the shared constant. Tests cover redaction and inventory parsing.
OAuth opt-in, fallback, and usage handling
rust/src/providers/claude/oauth/mod.rs, rust/src/providers/claude/oauth/usage_gate.rs, rust/src/providers/claude/oauth/reset_opt_in_tests.rs, CHANGELOG.md
The fetcher sends an opted-in request with a versioned User-Agent and retries without the opt-in after HTTP 400 or eligible HTTP 403 responses. It adds valid reset-credit inventory to fetched results and caches successful usage after redaction. Tests cover fallback, error handling, version selection, and cached data. The changelog records these changes.
Tray reset-credit proof scenarios
apps/desktop-tauri/src/proof/fixtures/scenarios.ts, apps/desktop-tauri/scripts/proof-scenarios.json
Fixtures provide visible and hidden reset-credit inventory. Tray scenarios check the displayed credit count, hidden inventory with the renewal date, and the absence of reset-credit labels with the default fixture.

Full details: Secrets Handled Safely

Explanation

No changed code sends OAuth credentials to logs, user errors, snapshots, or plain-text cache files. access_token is used only for the HTTP Authorization header and hashed account key. The new OAuth cache persists the response through redact_usage_body; the allowlist removes grant IDs, labels, and other grant fields not needed for counts and dates. The inventory type exposes only ID, title, count, and expiry. The diff does not delete or overwrite Claude Code or Codex credential files or keyring entries. Test tokens are explicitly synthetic fixtures.

Full details: No Unapproved Dependencies

Explanation

The pull-request diff changes nine source, test, fixture, and changelog files. It does not change any Cargo.toml or package.json, add an npm or yarn lockfile, or change a pnpm packageManager pin. No dependency approval is required.

Full details: Ui Changes Include Windows Proof

Explanation

The PR changes visible Claude usage content by adding reset-credit inventory data and tray proof scenarios. The PR context reports three Windows proof scenarios, a successful pnpm proof:check, a successful pnpm run build, and local screenshots. This satisfies the required Windows proof note; screenshots are not required when the proof note is present.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed

Explanation

The Rust data path stays within Claude code and redacts grant handles before persistence. However, the pull request adds provider-specific branching in shared TypeScript fixture code: apps/desktop-tauri/src/proof/fixtures/scenarios.ts maps all snapshots and matches snapshot.providerId === "claude" to inject reset-credit data. This matches the explicit prohibited cross-provider branching condition outside the allowed Rust paths.

Resolution

Remove the snapshot.providerId === "claude" branch from shared fixture code. Build the Claude reset-credit fixture through a provider-specific fixture path or pass the target Claude snapshot into a provider-owned helper without matching a specific ProviderId in shared code. Preserve the visible and hidden reset-credit scenarios.

Opt-in usage requests identify as claude-cli/<version> (external, cli); the fallback retry keeps claude-code/<version>. The version comes from claude --version (cached 30 minutes), or 2.1.0 when detection fails. The gate test also checks that cached five-hour and extra-usage values match the live response.

Browser proof for the Claude reset credits row (head e1f56a6be)

Chromium over CDP, mocked IPC, run on a Windows host with pnpm proof:check. Synthetic example.com fixtures only.

This PR adds no frontend code. The row it feeds is the existing "Limit Reset Credits" card row (card/DetailSections.tsx, InventoryRow), which renders the reset-credits inventory item that the OAuth path now produces. The new proof scenarios pin that rendering contract: the row shows when the item exists, hides when the user hides section:claude-reset-credits, and is absent when there is no item.

New scenarios (apps/desktop-tauri/scripts/proof-scenarios.json, fixtures in apps/desktop-tauri/src/proof/fixtures/scenarios.ts)

Scenario Fixture Asserts
tray-claude-reset-credits claude-reset-credits (default data plus a reset-credits inventory item, 2 available, expires in 3 days) Claude card shows claude.user@example.com, Limit Reset Credits, 2 available
tray-claude-reset-credits-hidden claude-reset-credits-hidden (same item, hiddenUsageItemIds: ["section:claude-reset-credits"]) Card still shows the email and Plan renews: Dec 1, 2026 (anchor that the detail section rendered); Limit Reset Credits and 2 available are absent
tray-claude-reset-credits-absent default (no inventory item) Card shows the email; Limit Reset Credits and 2 available are absent

Positive and negative checks are paired with a positive anchor, so a negative check cannot pass just because the card did not render.

Results

  • pnpm proof:check (apps/desktop-tauri, CI=true, npm_config_verify_deps_before_run=false): 15/15 scenarios PASS, including the three new ones.
  • pnpm test: 146 files, 1392 tests passed.
  • pnpm run build: locale drift check OK (1713 keys), tsc --noEmit and vite build passed.
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml claude (CARGO_TARGET_DIR=W:\cargo-target\pr919): 418 passed, 0 failed, 1 ignored.
  • cargo fmt --all -- --check: clean. cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean.

Branch sync

Merged origin/main at 7a89115f1 (#916). The one conflict was in CHANGELOG.md: all bullets are kept.

Not covered

  • Tray icon, tray menu pixels, DWM and WebView2 theme: not covered. This change does not touch them, so the CUA loop was not run.
  • Real provider data: not used. The OAuth-to-inventory mapping is covered by the Rust tests above, not by this proof.
  • The Settings "Usage" inventory line (UsageSection) is not covered by a new scenario.

Add a timeout around CLI version detection.

fetch_usage awaits claude_code_version() before the uncached usage request. detect_claude_version runs Command::output(), and detected_claude_version awaits its spawn_blocking task without a timeout. A stalled claude --version process can therefore delay usage indefinitely at this layer. Normal fetch and fetch_account calls also hold CREDENTIAL_OPERATION during this work.

Wrap the blocking task in a finite tokio::time::timeout and treat expiration as failed detection. Failed detections currently are not cached, so later polls can repeat the delay.

No extra User-Agent parsing is needed. detect_claude_version passes stdout to extract_semver, which returns only the first semver-like substring.
