Summary

  • Tavily refresh failed with "unrecognized credit usage response" when account.paygo_limit was null. A null pay-as-you-go cap now shows only the reported usage: the "Pay as you go" section has a Used row and no Limit or Remaining row.
  • A null API-key limit keeps its meaning: the API key section shows Limit "Unlimited" with no Remaining row.
  • Malformed pay-as-you-go limits (string, negative, boolean, fractional) still fail the refresh. A missing paygo_limit while paygo_usage is present still fails.
  • The section helper now takes a typed Cap (Finite, Unlimited, Unspecified) instead of an Option<u64>, so "no cap" cannot be confused with "unlimited".
  • docs/PROVIDERS.md describes the null pay-as-you-go behavior.
  • Plan usage, plan limit and the API key rows are unchanged.

Upstream reference: steipete/CodexBar commit 8928b6ee4 (steipete#4711), Sources/CodexBarCore/Resources/Plugins/tavily.js (paygo rows, lines 29-47 of the diff) and Tests/CodexBarTests/TavilyPluginTests.swift. Fixes upstream steipete#4710.

Checks

  • cargo fmt --all: clean.
  • Focused cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml tavily: 13 passed, 0 failed.
  • Full cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml: 5282 passed, 0 failed, 2 ignored.
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean.
  • Tauri manifest not run: no shared type changed; the edit is private to the Tavily module.
  • Tests added or changed in rust/src/providers/tavily/mod.rs:
    • null_paygo_limit_shows_only_the_reported_usage (new)
    • null_paygo_limit_with_nonzero_usage_has_no_remaining_row (new)
    • malformed_paygo_limit_still_fails_when_not_null (new)
    • The rejects_shapes_upstream_rejects case that expected a null paygo limit to fail was removed, because that behavior changed.
  • No CHANGELOG entry was added.

Proof suggestion (fake data)

Seed a Tavily response with "key":{"usage":3,"limit":null} and "account":{"current_plan":"Researcher","plan_usage":10,"plan_limit":1000,"paygo_usage":0,"paygo_limit":null}. Expect the Tavily card to show the plan usage, an API key row with Unlimited, and a Pay as you go section with only "0 credits" Used.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Pay-as-you-go usage now displays correctly when the provider reports no cap: only reported usage is shown.
    • Unlimited plans show the limit without a remaining-usage row. Existing validation for invalid non-null limits remains in place.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified how usage is displayed when no pay-as-you-go limit is reported.

A null paygo_limit failed the refresh with 'unrecognized credit usage response'. A null pay-as-you-go cap now shows only the reported usage, with no Limit or Remaining row. A null API-key limit still reads Unlimited, and malformed numbers still fail.

📝 Walkthrough

Tavily now treats a null pay-as-you-go limit as unspecified. Its section displays reported usage without Limit or Remaining rows. Null API-key limits continue to display as Unlimited.

Changes: Tavily cap handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Parse and display cap states
rust/src/providers/tavily/mod.rs, docs/PROVIDERS.md
Tavily distinguishes finite, unlimited, and unspecified caps. A null pay-as-you-go limit displays usage only. Tests cover zero and nonzero usage and reject malformed non-null limits. The documentation describes the null-limit display.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed

Explanation

PASS: The pull request changes only rust/src/providers/tavily/mod.rs and Tavily documentation. The new Cap and section logic stays inside the Tavily provider and handles only Tavily usage rows. The diff adds no identity, email, account-label, or cross-account data flow, and it adds no provider-specific branching in shared code.

Full details: Secrets Handled Safely

Explanation

PASS. The authoritative diff adds only Cap-based Tavily usage parsing, display rows, tests, and documentation. New strings contain usage labels and test data only. No changed line logs or exposes a token, cookie, API key, OAuth credential, or authorization header; no credential file or keyring entry is deleted or overwritten.

Full details: No Unapproved Dependencies

Explanation

The pull-request range changes only docs/PROVIDERS.md and rust/src/providers/tavily/mod.rs. It does not modify any Cargo.toml, package.json, npm/yarn lockfile, or pnpm packageManager version. No dependency addition requires maintainer approval.

Full details: Ui Changes Include Windows Proof

Explanation

The PR changes visible Tavily rows. rust/src/providers/tavily/mod.rs now omits the Pay as you go Limit and Remaining rows for a null limit, and provider display details are rendered by the desktop card and provider settings surfaces. The description includes a fake-data proof suggestion, but it does not include screenshots or a proof note from a fresh Windows build.

Resolution

Add screenshots or a proof note from a fresh Windows build. The proof must show the Tavily null account.paygo_limit case and the resulting Pay as you go rows.

Run the Tauri manifest tests before merge.

The repository requires tests for both Rust manifests after any Rust change. The PR reports that the Tauri manifest was not run. The stated reason, that the edit is private to the Tavily module, does not exempt the change from this requirement.

@coderabbitai Thanks. Both manifests are covered: ci/circleci: pr-check runs scripts/local-check.ps1 -Slice ci, which runs cargo test for rust/Cargo.toml and apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml. The change stays private to the Tavily module, so no Tauri code calls it. This PR merges only after that check passes.

@Finesssee Thanks for clarifying. I confirmed that scripts/local-check.ps1 -Slice ci runs cargo test --workspace, which covers both crates. A separate Tauri test run is not needed if that check passes for this PR’s current head.

I have not verified the current check result. Keep ci/circleci: pr-check passing as the merge requirement.

AGENTS.md: # Repository Guidelines
## Testing & QA
- **Hosted PR check.** CircleCI Windows is the primary gate. It runs `scripts/local-check.ps1 -Slice ci` for same-repository ordinary and canonical PRs and for `main`, and never for fork PRs. Micro PRs that target `port/upstream-*` skip hosted Windows compute on purpose; a micro-named PR that targets `main` does not. `.github/workflows/pr-check.yml` is a manual Blacksmith Windows reserve only. Budget details are in `CONTEXT.md`, `.github/CI.md` and `docs/adr/`.

AGENTS.md: # Repository Guidelines
## Testing & QA
- **Fork PRs and reviews.** CircleCI never runs on fork PRs, and this project adds no CircleCI API token. Read the full diff. Then run the `-Slice ci` steps from main's copy of `scripts/local-check.ps1` against the fork head (`pull/<number>/head`) in a disposable, credential-free Windows environment (Windows Sandbox or a throwaway VM; a worktree is not isolation), and post the result (see `.github/CI.md`).

## CircleCI validation

.circleci/config.yml contains the pr-check workflow only. Canonical release
tags are ignored by that workflow so CircleCI cannot create a competing
release build or publisher. The validation job has no GitHub release-write
credential.

## Code conventions

- Keep provider-specific logic inside `rust/src/providers/<name>/`. Shared paths have no cross-provider branching; when shared code needs a provider-specific answer, add a typed field or a trait method with a default.
