Port of upstream steipete/CodexBar steipete#4687 (1ffa96011) to Win-CodexBar.

Branch: port/claude-limits-unavailable (base 96d5531e4), local commit b5c0acf3ed1deeb922448acccc173fc252af5628. Not pushed.

Behavior

  • A successful Claude Web answer that carries no quota window (five_hour and seven_day both null) and no spend now shows the informational session row Limits not available, not No active 5h session.
  • Classification happens at fetch time in rust/src/providers/claude/web_api.rs (mark_limits_unavailable_without_quota), after prepaid balance is applied and before cost is attached.
  • Unchanged: measured session, weekly-only answers (keep the no-session placeholder), capped spend-only answers (keep the projected meter), prepaid-balance-only answers (keep the no-session placeholder), stale-error priority.
  • Text is localized in all 11 shipped locales (ProviderTextLimitsNotAvailable) and mapped in the frontend providerText helper.

Files

  • rust/src/providers/claude/web_api.rs, web_api_tests.rs
  • rust/src/locale.rs and rust/src/locale/*.ftl (11 files)
  • apps/desktop-tauri/src/i18n/keyGroups/providerText.ts, src/lib/providerText.ts, src/lib/providerText.test.ts
  • docs/PROVIDERS.md

Tests

  • New Rust tests in web_api_tests.rs: null-quota answer reports limits unavailable; disabled extra usage without quota reports limits unavailable; weekly-only keeps the no-session placeholder; measured session stays available; capped spend-only keeps the projected meter; prepaid balance alone keeps the no-session placeholder.
  • New frontend case: ru translation of Limits not available.

Checks (local, Windows)

  • cargo fmt --all: clean.
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean.
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --lib web_api::tests: 32 passed.
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --lib: 5285 passed, 0 failed, 2 ignored.
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: clean.
  • cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml: 804 passed, 0 failed.
  • pnpm test (apps/desktop-tauri): 164 files, 1618 tests passed.
  • pnpm run build: succeeds (pre-existing chunk-size warning).

Not included

  • No desktop/CUA proof. The change is classification plus text; the Settings subtitle path was not changed (upstream also touched a Settings provider subtitle; Windows does not render that timestamp subtitle the same way, not evaluated).
  • docs/claude.md not updated (upstream did); CHANGELOG.md not updated.

Suggested fake-data proof

Seed a fake claude.ai Web response with {"five_hour": null, "seven_day": null} and no extra-usage spend. Expect the Claude row to read "Limits not available" in the tray panel and provider detail, not "No active 5h session".

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Claude usage now displays “Limits not available” when a successful response includes no quota data or spend, rather than showing an idle-session message. Measured usage and prepaid balances retain their existing presentation.
    • The new status is available in multiple languages.
  • Documentation

    • Updated the provider guide to explain when the informational status appears.

A successful Claude Web answer with no five-hour or seven-day window and no spend now shows 'Limits not available' instead of 'No active 5h session'. Measured lanes, spend and prepaid balances keep their existing presentation.

📝 Walkthrough

Claude Web usage results with no quota windows and no cost now show an informational “Limits not available” label. The change adds translations, desktop text mapping, documentation, and tests for cases that retain existing presentation.

Changes: Claude Web limits display

Layer / File(s) Summary
Add the limits-unavailable label
rust/src/locale.rs, rust/src/locale/*.ftl, apps/desktop-tauri/src/i18n/keyGroups/providerText.ts, apps/desktop-tauri/src/lib/providerText.ts, apps/desktop-tauri/src/lib/providerText.test.ts, docs/PROVIDERS.md
The new locale key has translations in nine locales. The desktop text mapper recognizes “limits not available,” and the documentation describes when Claude Web displays the label.
Mark unmeasured Claude usage
rust/src/providers/claude/web_api.rs, rust/src/providers/claude/web_api_tests.rs
The helper labels the primary window “Limits not available” when no quota windows or cost exist. Tests check this condition and cases where measured quota data or cost preserves the existing presentation.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed

Explanation

The change stays provider-siloed. Claude-specific classification is added only in rust/src/providers/claude/web_api.rs, which is an allowed provider module. The other changes add a generic localized phrase and locale entries. The diff adds no identity, plan, account label, or email transfer, logging, persistence, payload handling, or ProviderId branching in shared code.

Full details: Secrets Handled Safely

Explanation

PASS. The authoritative diff adds only the Limits not available classification, locale text, documentation, and assertions. Added lines contain no token, cookie, API key, OAuth credential, authorization header, logging, user error, snapshot, or credential-file operation. Existing cookie/session-key test literals and request handling are unchanged, and no credential or keyring path is modified.

Full details: No Unapproved Dependencies

Explanation

The pull-request diff changes 17 localization, documentation, provider, and test files. It changes no Cargo.toml, package.json, npm/yarn/pnpm lockfile, or package-manager configuration file. Therefore, it adds no dependency, lockfile, or pinned pnpm version change.

Full details: Ui Changes Include Windows Proof

Explanation

The PR changes visible UI behavior. apps/desktop-tauri/src/lib/providerText.ts adds the user-facing “Limits not available” mapping, and ProviderDisplayRow, CardMetricRow, and FloatBar render localized provider text. The description explicitly says “No desktop/CUA proof.” Its pnpm run build check is the frontend TypeScript/Vite build, not proof from a fresh Windows desktop build, and it includes no screenshots.

Resolution

Add screenshots of the changed Claude UI from a fresh Windows build, or add an explicit proof note documenting validation of the changed surface from a fresh Windows desktop build.

@coderabbitai Fixed in 03814dd (web_api.rs:925, weekly windows before reporting unavailable limits).

  • seven_day_sonnet: the web path parsed this window but never used it, so a Sonnet-only answer was wrongly marked "Limits not available". The model-specific lane now falls back to Sonnet when Opus is absent. This matches our OAuth path in oauth/mod.rs. Upstream ClaudeWebAPIFetcher.parseUsageResponse also reads Sonnet. A Sonnet-only answer now keeps its weekly lane and the "No active 5h session" placeholder instead of "Limits not available".
  • seven_day_design: left as is, on purpose. Neither this port nor upstream renders the Design window as a quota lane; upstream's web parser drops it. A Design-only answer has no meter to show, so "Limits not available" is correct for it, as it is upstream.

New deterministic samples: sonnet_only_web_answer_keeps_its_weekly_lane_available and opus_stays_the_model_lane_when_sonnet_is_also_reported. Claude tests: 519 pass. rust clippy is clean.

## Code conventions
- **New provider:** (1) a `ProviderId` variant with its metadata methods (`cli_name`, `display_name`, ...), (2) a provider module that implements `Provider`, (3) a match arm in `instantiate` and in `pace_capability` in `core/provider_factory.rs`. Both matches are exhaustive, so a missing arm doesn't compile. Never add a second factory in the shell or the CLI. See [docs/PROVIDERS.md](docs/PROVIDERS.md#add-a-provider).

## Usage windows

Claude reads `limits[]` entry by entry for both OAuth and Web (upstream #4614). A malformed entry or a field of the wrong type does not hide its valid model-scoped siblings, a non-object entry is skipped, and a JSON Boolean is never a percentage.

## Code conventions

- Keep provider-specific logic inside `rust/src/providers/<name>/`. Shared paths have no cross-provider branching; when shared code needs a provider-specific answer, add a typed field or a trait method with a default.
