USE_TENSORRT is ON; CUVSLAM_BUILD_ANYLOC_ENGINE is a plain option, OFF by default, since the engine only builds on its target GPU. Contradictory options stop configure instead of being ignored.

The CI and RealSense images install a pinned TensorRT through scripts/install_tensorrt.sh (10.16 from the CUDA repo, 10.3 from JetPack 6.1's repo on Orin). Wheels exclude libnvinfer.so.10.

Docs keep the AnyLoc build steps in models/anyloc/README.md only and no longer mention cuvslam_vars.sh.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Build & Setup

    • TensorRT is now enabled by default. Building the AnyLoc engine is an opt-in setting and requires TensorRT.
    • Docker builds now install TensorRT automatically for supported CUDA versions.
    • Python package builds exclude an additional TensorRT library from bundled dependencies.
  • Documentation

    • Updated AnyLoc setup guidance, model-path information, and VPR usage instructions to reflect the current engine workflow.
    • Clarified TensorRT version requirements and the default build options.

📝 Walkthrough

The changes update TensorRT and AnyLoc CMake options, install TensorRT in Docker builds, and revise documentation and CLI messages about the AnyLoc engine.

Changes: AnyLoc TensorRT setup

Layer / File(s) Summary
Build options and engine configuration
CMakeLists.txt, cmake/FindExt.cmake, README.md, models/anyloc/README.md
USE_TENSORRT now defaults to ON, and CUVSLAM_BUILD_ANYLOC_ENGINE is an independent option that defaults to OFF. CMake fails when the AnyLoc engine is enabled without TensorRT. Documentation reflects the updated options.
TensorRT installation in Docker builds
scripts/install_tensorrt.sh, docker/Dockerfile.realsense-cu12, docker/Dockerfile.realsense-cu13, scripts/Dockerfile, scripts/build_pycuvslam_in_docker.sh
The new script selects and installs TensorRT packages for supported CUDA repository configurations or the Jetson repository configuration. Docker builds run the script. CUDA 12 and CUDA 13 wheel packaging excludes libnvinfer.so.10.
AnyLoc engine guidance and CLI messages
doc/place_recognition.md, tools/python_tools/README.md, tools/python_tools/cuvslam_tools/tracker/cli.py, tools/python_tools/cuvslam_tools/tests/test_tracker_cli.py, python/test/test_vpr.py
Documentation and CLI messages describe the AnyLoc TensorRT engine path and VPR requirements. The CLI test name and VPR test skip message are updated; test behavior is otherwise unchanged.

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 26fe6

Enabling TensorRT by default means wheels built from this change may fail to import on machines without TensorRT, and the wheel installation docs do not mention the new prerequisite. Several option descriptions and the place-recognition example are also misleading. Resolve the wheel runtime prerequisite and fix the docs before merging.

Document the required AnyLoc build option.

USE_TENSORRT enables the backend, but it does not build the AnyLoc engine. Users must enable CUVSLAM_BUILD_ANYLOC_ENGINE and then source the generated build/cuvslam_vars.sh file.

Document the USE_CUDA requirement for USE_TENSORRT.

When USE_CUDA=OFF, USE_TENSORRT remains ON by default. Configuration then reaches a fatal error in cmake/FindExt.cmake. Update the option description and the matching README row.

Document TensorRT as a wheel runtime prerequisite.

The default build links libcuvslam.so against libnvinfer.so.10. Because the repaired wheels exclude that library, import cuvslam can fail on systems without TensorRT.

Document a matching libnvinfer10 installation for both wheel variants. Reuse scripts/install_tensorrt.sh or provide an equivalent path for CUDA 12, CUDA 13, and Jetson. The wheel installation instructions must state this native runtime prerequisite.
