Problem

SANCTIONED_COUNTRIES in src/config/providerRegions.ts lists Syria (SY), so isRegionSanctioned and getRestrictedServices tell users in Syria that GitHub, npm and Docker Hub may be unavailable due to trade sanctions. That is out of date: the US Syria sanctions program was terminated by Executive Order 14312 (effective 2025-07-01), OFAC removed the Syrian Sanctions Regulations (31 CFR Part 542) on 2025-08-26, the Caesar Act was repealed on 2025-12-18, and the State Sponsor of Terrorism designation was rescinded on 2026-08-24 (US News). GitHub restored service for Syria in 2025 (community discussion). Source documents: https://unblocksyria.com/resources

Solution

Remove the "SY" entry from SANCTIONED_COUNTRIES. Syrian users no longer get the restricted-services notice; every other entry and all logic are unchanged.

Potential risks

  • Docker Hub's current availability in Syria was not verified. If Docker still blocks Syrian IPs, those users lose a warning that would still be accurate for that one service.
  • No compatibility, data or persistence impact: the list is a static constant read by useRegionCheck and the settings region notice.

Verification

  • Commit made through the repository hooks: lint-staged (oxlint, eslint, prettier) passed, tsgo --noEmit type check passed, trailer reports eslint 0 / circular 0.
  • Not run: pnpm test, pnpm lint (full project), and any manual UI check. No existing test references this list.

Submit checklist

  • I read and followed .github/PR_RULES.md.
  • The PR is focused and has a scoped Conventional Commit title, such as feat(scope): summary or fix(scope): summary.
  • I ran the relevant checks, or explained why they were not run.
  • No secrets, private config, generated output, or unrelated formatting changes are included.
  • Docs, screenshots, and locale updates are included when the change needs them. No UI or copy changes, so none are needed.

The list flags countries where GitHub, npm and Docker Hub are blocked by
trade sanctions. The US Syria sanctions program ended with Executive
Order 14312 (2025-07-01), OFAC removed 31 CFR Part 542 on 2025-08-26,
and the State Sponsor of Terrorism designation was rescinded on
2026-08-24. GitHub restored service in Syria in 2025, so the restricted
services notice no longer applies to Syrian users.
