feat(server): make requests and exports searchable in PostHog - #144
Conversation
Add structured request and export logs with generated correlation IDs, normalized routes, safe error stacks, and batched PostHog OTLP ingestion. Keep production JSON on stdout, readable local output, and silent tests. Flush pending batches after draining requests during shutdown. Exclude private request data and redact database parameters and error credentials. Document runtime configuration and update the privacy notice. Recognize Node built-ins in the existing runtime dependency check. Validation: format, lint, typecheck, 465 unit tests, 48 integration tests, 46 browser tests with 2 skipped, production build and deployment checks. Local OTLP receiver verified transport, flushing, and outage behavior. AI-Assisted: true AI-Agent: codex AI-Model: openai/gpt-6.1-sol

📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe change adds structured server and request logging, with environment-based formatting, sanitization, and optional batched PostHog export. Server lifecycle events, HTTP errors, and export outcomes use the logger. Runtime settings, deployment files, documentation, privacy text, and tests are updated. ChangesServer logging

Use the actual responses/xlsx URL instead of the route file's dot spelling. Extend existing request-log coverage with an Excel GET request so filtering by route works for these downloads and their failures. Validation: request-log regression failed before the fix and passes after; formatting, lint, and typecheck passed. Related to PR #144. AI-Assisted: true AI-Agent: codex AI-Model: openai/gpt-6.1-sol

@coderabbitai ignore pre-merge checks [codex] Rebutting the default 80% docstring coverage warning: package.json and .github/workflows/ci.yml configure no docstring-coverage gate. Non-obvious request context, redaction, and shutdown behavior is documented; boilerplate comments on forwarding methods add no useful explanation. The privacy disclosure finding is fixed in 8c01cb3. Please review the latest commit. @coderabbitai review |

@coderabbitai ignore pre-merge checks [codex] The default docstring coverage warning is advisory and does not correspond to a repository gate. package.json and .github/workflows/ci.yml define formatting, lint, typecheck, tests, build, and production-image checks; none require 80% docstring coverage. Relevant non-obvious logging behavior is documented. Please clear this advisory warning. |

Server failures and slow exports are hard to trace across requests.
Add structured request and export logs to stdout and PostHog Logs using batched OTLP export. Generated request IDs connect related logs; normalized routes, status, duration, export outcomes, and safe error stacks make failures searchable. Exclude healthy probes and private request data, redact database parameters and credentials, and flush batches on shutdown.
The existing runtime PostHog project token and ingestion host enable export.
POSTHOG_LOGS_ENABLED=falsekeeps stdout logs without exporting. Deployment documentation and the privacy notice describe the behavior. No additional external configuration is needed when the existing runtime token is configured; production ingestion needs verification after deployment.Validation:
verifyandproduction-imageCI checks are green for the final commit8c01cb3on both push and pull-request runs. CodeRabbit's privacy finding was fixed and resolved; its final re-review is rate limited. Its default docstring advisory was rebutted because no such repository gate exists. Macroscope skipped its latest check with "Credit balance exhausted". This PR remains in draft because the configured bots cannot complete the final review cycle.Implemented with GPT-6.1-Sol through the Codex harness in T3 Code.
