Goal
Let a receiving Mac's own input control the sending Mac:
- trackpad / mouse
- keyboard
- modifier keys
Use cases
- A spare MacBook as an extra display with its own keyboard and trackpad
- Operating a Mac mini or other headless Mac from another Mac
- Desk and secondary-screen workflows
- Quick convenience access without opening a full remote desktop client
Current state
The Mac Receiver is display-only. It shows the stream, but its local keyboard and trackpad are not forwarded to the sender.
Positioning
This isn't meant to turn MeowDisplay into an IT or admin remote desktop suite. It's a natural extension of what MeowDisplay already is: a display, a control surface, and a convenient way to reach your Mac.
Things to consider later
- Opt-in input permission, consistent with Allow Input and per-device input requests
- Keyboard forwarding
- Pointer / trackpad forwarding
- Scrolling
- Modifier handling
- Shortcuts, and which ones stay local
- Avoiding conflicts with the receiving Mac's own UI
- A local escape / release gesture
- Latency
- Secure pairing and input authorization
- Behaviour with the receiver window in full screen
This is a tracking issue, not a design. Implementation details come later.
