Add Google Antigravity agent (Gemini models, API key) - #2542
Adds Google Antigravity (google-antigravity) as a SAM agent, using Gemini models with a Gemini API key. Gemini CLI stays as it is.
Antigravity only offers its Claude and GPT models to ACP clients it recognises by clientInfo.name (pingdotgg/t3code#31158 shows this). SAM sends sam, so this first step is Gemini-only, as agreed. Getting sam allowlisted by Google is the follow-up for the other models.
Behaviour was checked against the real agy-acp-server 1.4.5 Linux release, run locally:
Observed
What SAM does
session/new fails with -32000 "Authentication required" until an auth method is selected
authenticateACP (session_host_handshake.go) calls authenticate {methodId: "gemini-api-key"} after initialize, and fails clearly if the method is not advertised. The key reaches the agent through the existing GEMINI_API_KEY env injection.
A new session writes skills/system/run-workflow/SKILL.md into the repo
acpSessionMeta (antigravity.go) sends _meta.antigravity.disabledTools: ["run_workflow"] on new and load. Verified on the real binary: no file.
Client file writes make it swap diff edits for whole-file client_edit_file (from t3code)
acpClientFsCapabilities advertises no client fs for Antigravity, so it reads and writes natively in the container.
Session modes are default, auto_edit, yolo
acpSessionModeID: Bypass Permissions → yolo, Accept Edits → auto_edit, Manual and Plan → default, which asks before acting. Every mode is sent explicitly, so a loaded session cannot keep yolo. Without this, the SAM default (Bypass) left it asking before every tool call.
The model is a model select config option (gemini-3.8-flash … gemini-3.1-pro)
Uses the existing applySessionModelConfigOption. These IDs are in the model catalog.
It finds its harness beside the real .par path, not through a symlink. It has no version flag.
antigravity_install.sh writes an agy-acp launcher that sets ANTIGRAVITY_HARNESS_PATH and carries a version marker, which the validation command checks.
Install: pinned 1.4.5 zip from dl.google.com, HTTPS-only, SHA-256 digests from the official ACP registry, linux x86_64 and arm64 with glibc (musl is rejected). It goes into $SAM_AGENT_HOME on Instant, otherwise /usr/local. The download is about 320 MB and unpacks to about 1 GB, so it is not baked into the Instant image; both runtimes install it on first use through the existing install gate. The Instant image gains only unzip. The installer keeps the working release until the new one is in place and sweeps stages left by killed installs. A real run takes about 10 s.
Snapshots:.gemini/antigravity/bin (a 17 MB helper Antigravity unpacks into HOME) is excluded from capture only. .config/antigravity, its plugin secret store, is restore-rejecting. Conversations in .gemini/antigravity-acp are kept, so LoadSession works after wake.
Throughput (rule 81): the install is one bounded download plus unzip. Worst case is about 320 MB at the slowest realistic node bandwidth, tens of seconds, and it happens once per container.
I/O budget: no API route changes. Antigravity uses the generic agent catalog, credential and settings paths, so there are no new D1 or DO calls.
Marketing surfaces: after staging answered real prompts, Antigravity was added to the integrations page (new google-antigravity entry), compare, roadmap and idea-execution lists.
Live steering: Antigravity 1.4.5 does not advertise _session/steering, so SAM's existing fallback applies: a steered message is recorded queued_fallback (adapter_does_not_advertise_steering) and delivered as the next turn. No code change was needed; the agents guide says so.
Validation
pnpm lint (via pnpm check:fast, exit 0)
pnpm typecheck (exit 0)
pnpm test: web 4926, api 15105 (+2 skipped), shared 936, acp-client 586, providers 735, ui 137, www 94, all passing
Additional validation:
go vet ./... and go test ./... in packages/vm-agent (28 packages pass; new tests also under -race)
pnpm build
pnpm quality:agent-install-manifest
N/A: no sweep/cron candidate selection changes
Every new guard was removed once, and the intended test went red:
authenticate: "Authentication required"
session _meta: the SKILL.md file got written
fs capabilities
mode mapping, including plan → default
snapshot exclusion
installer cleanup glob
manifest digest and unzip checks
The tests use a fake ACP agent over real pipes that reproduces the observed binary's behaviour, driven through startSelectedAgent. TestAntigravityReleaseInstaller runs the real installer under /bin/sh with only platform detection and the download stubbed.
Staging Verification (REQUIRED for all code changes — merge-blocking)
Staging deployment green: run 42043721627 (branch at 2c2d7f1), smoke tests included
Live app verified via Playwright: logged in as the smoke user on app.sammy.party and drove the real UI
Existing workflows confirmed working: projects, settings/agents, chat list, new chat and session tools loaded with no console errors
New feature/fix verified on staging: real Gemini replies on VM and Instant with Raphaël's key (run 42122233465), plus the earlier invalid-key run below
Infrastructure verification completed: a fresh VM node was provisioned for the Antigravity chat, was healthy and heartbeating within 2 minutes, then deleted
Mobile and desktop verification notes added for UI changes
Staging Verification Evidence
The test used a deliberately invalid Gemini key (AIzaSy-sam-staging-invalid-…), so every step up to the model call is real:
Connect: Settings → Agents → Connect account → Google Antigravity → API key → Connect. PUT /api/credentials/agent returned 201 and the dialog showed "Google Antigravity connected as your default". No console errors.
Profiles: created two profiles in hono: google-antigravity, gemini-3.8-flash, Bypass Permissions, one with runtime vm and one with cf-container. The composer showed "google-antigravity · Gemini 3.8 Flash".
VM chat:
A fresh node was created at 14:42:36, healthy with a heartbeat by 14:44:57.
The devcontainer started, then Antigravity was installed (digest verified), launched, signed in with gemini-api-key, and opened a session.
The prompt went to Google, which replied in the chat: "API key not valid. Please pass a valid API key."
The repo's Git panel shows only node_modules/ (the project's own install) as untracked. No skills/ directory, so the run_workflow suppression works on real infrastructure.
Instant chat:
Antigravity installed on first use inside the container (unzip present).
The same chain ran and produced the same Google reply.
Sleep and wake (Instant):
The chat slept: a HOME snapshot that includes Antigravity's files was taken.
A follow-up woke it, signed in again, restored the session, and Google answered again. No errors.
Cleanup: deleted the test credential and both test nodes. The two test profiles remain in hono for the real-key check.
Raphaël saved a Gemini key under Google Antigravity (PUT /api/credentials/agent).
gemini-3.5-flash: real replies on a fresh VM node (task 01M6Q12XD78BRW0YA37H6MGX6Y) and on Instant (task 01M6Q133PST4ZG46TNPNR7882H). Both agents also called sam-mcp tools.
gemini-3.8-flash: Google answered "This model is currently experiencing high demand" twice, after about 10 minutes each. This is Google-side capacity; the key was accepted. The agents guide tells users to pick another model if it happens.
Live steering: mid-turn steer while the agent ran sleep 45. SAM recorded queued_fallback / adapter_does_not_advertise_steering; the agent answered the turn ("DONE") and then the steered message ("MANGO").
Test workspaces and nodes deleted.
UI Compliance Checklist (Required for UI changes)
Mobile-first layout verified
Accessibility checks completed (labelled API key field, help link, existing dialog)
Shared UI components used or exception documented (the generic connect flow; only a provider mark and a model placeholder were added)
Playwright visual audit run locally: accounts-settings-audit.spec.ts, full spec at 375x667 and 1280x800, 68/68 pass, including the new Antigravity connect step
Desktop and mobile screenshots for every changed UI surface are posted in a PR comment and linked below
Agent/human reviewed the posted screenshots for quality control and found no visual issues, or fixed/documented every issue found
UI Screenshot Evidence
All screenshots were taken with Playwright (apps/web/tests/playwright/accounts-settings-audit.spec.ts, mocked API) at 375x667 and 1280x800.
Mock/stress data used: the accounts audit's mocked API with several connected agent accounts. The same spec covers long names, markup, emoji, empty, many-accounts and error states, and all pass with Antigravity in the agent list.
Screenshot quality review: reviewed both. The "Ag" mark, API key field, AI Studio link and buttons are all visible, with no overflow or clipping at 375px. No issues found.
Surface: Agent model placeholders (Agent settings and project agent cards)
Mock/stress data used: the same Playwright accounts audit run, including the project agents tab test, with long names, many items, empty and error states, and special characters in the mocked data
Screenshot quality review: reviewed the screenshots for layout quality, overflow and clipping. This is a placeholder-string change only, with no layout change. Result: no issues found.
End-to-End Verification (Required for multi-component changes)
Data flow traced from user input to final outcome with code path citations
Capability test exercises the complete happy path across system boundaries (VM agent side; see gaps)
All spec/doc assumptions about existing behavior verified against code (and against the real binary)
If any gap exists between automated test coverage and full E2E, manual verification steps documented below
Data Flow Trace
The user connects a key in Settings → Agents. The generic AGENT_CATALOG drives the connect form, and the API stores the credential for google-antigravity (AGENT_TYPE_VALUES, apps/api/src/schemas/credentials.ts).
The VM agent resolves the credential and command: getAgentCommandInfo("google-antigravity") in gateway.go gives agy-acp --uid=, GEMINI_API_KEY, and antigravityInstallScript.
ensureAgentInstalled runs installAgentBinary (VM, via docker exec as root) or installAgentBinaryLocal (Instant). Both run the same embedded installer.
startSelectedAgent → establishACPSession → initializeACP (no client fs) → authenticateACP (gemini-api-key) → startNewACPSession or tryLoadPreviousACPSession (with acpSessionMeta) → applySessionSettings (model config option, then acpSessionModeID).

Requested 00:21 UTC 2026-11-06 via coderabbit-bot-review.yml (dispatched from main). Review arrived 00:39 (CHANGES_REQUESTED, 7 actionable, 4 nitpicks, 7 unverified notes) on 0c87d58.
A rejected model or mode now fails Antigravity startup.
An unset permission mode maps to default.
The installer restores the previous release if the replacement fails.
--sam-check-install checks that the release files exist.
.config/antigravity is excluded at capture only (rule 78).
Restored-session and container-capture tests added.
The website now says seven agents, and the Instant FAQ is clarified.
Declined with reasons in the threads and in #2542 (comment). All threads are resolved.
Re-verified on staging after the fixes (run 42139629060): fresh VM node (task 01M6Q6FMHWBG2MBJW5XS9PVA0S) and Instant (task 01M6Q6FSHC95FGFGCR1M7MHE5B) both replied, and the test resources were deleted.
Known CI notes:
SonarCloud: new-code duplication is 4.0% (threshold 3%), from the new integrations.ts data entry sharing the shape of every other entry. Not a required check.
Secret Scan: fails repo-wide because two reviewed Gitleaks baseline groups expired at 2026-11-06T00:00Z. This PR does not touch them, and renewing them needs a security owner.
Real agy-acp-server 1.4.5 Linux x86_64 binary, probed locally with a JSON-RPC client: initialize, authMethods, auth requirement, authenticate, session/new config options and modes, _meta.antigravity.disabledTools, session/set_mode, and a prompt with an invalid key.
Updated apps/www/src/content/docs/docs/guides/agents.md (new section and permission-mode note), concepts.mdx, overview.mdx, quickstart.md, index.mdx, reference/vm-agent.md, layouts/Base.astro, and README.md. No spec changes.
Constitution & Risk Check
Principle XI: the version and digests are pinned in one installer and kept in sync with the manifest by CI. There are no new timeouts or limits; authenticate reuses the configured initialize timeout.
Simplicity: no new runtime plumbing. Three small per-agent hooks sit beside the existing harnessLifecycleSessionMeta pattern, and the image does not grow by 1 GB.
Risks: first-use install time on Instant; a Google release changing auth or modes (startup then fails closed with a named method); Bypass → yolo means auto-approve, the same as Bypass for other agents.

Walkthrough
The change adds Google Antigravity as a Gemini API-key coding agent. It adds shared agent and model definitions, a pinned VM installer, ACP authentication and session configuration, snapshot exclusions, web interface support, tests, and product documentation.
The shared catalog adds Antigravity with Gemini API-key authentication and five Gemini models. The manifest and quality checks describe the pinned Linux binary archive, digests, and unzip requirement.
VM installation and ACP session setup packages/vm-agent/internal/acp/antigravity*, packages/vm-agent/internal/acp/gateway.go, packages/vm-agent/internal/acp/session_host_handshake.go, packages/vm-agent/internal/acp/session_host_settings.go
The VM agent installs the verified Antigravity release and configures ACP authentication, session metadata, filesystem capabilities, and permission-mode mappings. Tests cover installation and session startup.
Snapshot capture and restore rules packages/vm-agent/internal/server/session_snapshot_archive.go, packages/vm-agent/internal/server/session_snapshot_sleep_loop_test.go
Snapshot capture excludes Antigravity binaries and credential-bearing configuration. Tests check those exclusions and the retention of Antigravity ACP conversation data.

Staging verification with a real Gemini key (run 42122233465):
gemini-3.5-flash: real replies on both VM and Instant; the agent also called sam-mcp tools.
gemini-3.8-flash: Google returned "This model is currently experiencing high demand" twice (about 10 minutes each). Google-side capacity; the key was accepted.
Live steering: Antigravity 1.4.5 does not advertise _session/steering, so a mid-turn steer is recorded as queued_fallback (adapter_does_not_advertise_steering) and delivered as the next turn. Verified: the agent finished the running turn ("DONE"), then answered the steered message ("MANGO").
Installs the pinned agy-acp-server 1.4.5 release with a verified digest,
selects gemini-api-key auth after initialize, disables the run_workflow
tool that writes a SKILL.md into the repository, and leaves file access
to the agent so it keeps diff edits.

its asking default mode so a loaded session cannot stay in yolo
- Installer keeps the working release until the new one is in place,

Staging answered real prompts on VM and Instant, so the site now lists Antigravity.
The agents guide notes that steered messages queue for Antigravity and that a busy
Gemini model can return 'high demand'.

The mode table tests only new sessions. Add restored-session cases that assert session/load and the mapped mode, including default. A regression that skips only mode application after loading would otherwise pass these tests.

Update the accepted archive fixture containing the .gemini/antigravity/bin entry

The Antigravity fixtures exercise host capture only. A container-specific regression could retain the helper or omit the conversation without failing these assertions. Add the Antigravity paths to the container inventory and selection checks, including the secret-store exclusion.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
An empty Antigravity permission mode has no mapping and skips SetSessionMode, unlike the explicit default mapping intended to reset permissive restored sessions.
The restored session may retain bypass-permission behavior instead of returning to the effective default.
This can occur when: A previously yolo session is loaded with settings whose PermissionMode is empty because the setting was omitted or predates explicit defaults.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Antigravity's newly required explicit permission reset uses the existing non-fatal SetSessionMode failure branch. A rejected or timed-out reset can therefore leave a permissive loaded mode active while startup succeeds.
Subsequent prompts execute under the old, more permissive mode rather than the requested restrictions.
This can occur when: A loaded yolo session is requested in default mode, but its mode-setting RPC fails, including after model selection exhausts the shared settings deadline.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The exclusion assumes the plugin secret store is always under HOME's .config/antigravity. A configurable XDG configuration directory could put that store elsewhere inside the captured HOME.
The secrets could be included in the uploaded snapshot despite the intended exclusion.
This can occur when: Antigravity runs with XDG_CONFIG_HOME set to another directory within HOME and writes its plugin secrets there.
351-351: Minor · Potential issue · Poor tradeoff
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Excluding the entire plugin secret store relies on a separate wake-time mechanism to restore credentials needed by Antigravity plugins; no such counterpart is shown.
The resumed session may lose access to that plugin even though its conversation state was restored.
This can occur when: A session uses a plugin whose credential exists only in Antigravity's secret store, then sleeps and wakes.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Excluding .gemini/antigravity/bin requires the wake or agent-launch path to regenerate its helper binaries before Antigravity uses them; that counterpart is not shown.
A resumed session or helper-dependent operation may fail if the binaries are not recreated.
This can occur when: An Antigravity session wakes from a snapshot that omitted its helper directory.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The snapshot checklist names exclusions for .gemini/antigravity/bin and .config/antigravity, while this record also says authentication persists $GEMINI_HOME/antigravity-acp/settings.json. The settings file may fall outside both exclusions and carry credential material into a session snapshot.
A Gemini credential could be retained in a snapshot or restored into a workspace where it should not be available.
This can occur when: An authenticated Antigravity session sleeps after writing settings under a GEMINI_HOME whose antigravity-acp/settings.json path is captured.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The new Antigravity guidance says that Plan Mode asks before acting because the agent has no plan mode. The table immediately above defines Plan Mode as reading and planning without changing anything; mapping it to an approval-capable mode may therefore violate the promised read-only restriction.
Approving the request could let the agent change files or run commands in a session the user expected to remain read-only.
This can occur when: A user selects Plan Mode for an Antigravity session and the agent requests approval for a write or command.

- Fail Antigravity startup when the requested model or session mode is rejected,
and send default for an unset permission mode, so a restored session cannot keep
a more permissive mode or run another model.
- Installer: restore the previous release if the replacement fails; the launcher's
--sam-check-install makes the install check fail when release files are missing.
- Make .config/antigravity a capture-only exclusion (rule 78): never uploaded,
but older snapshots that contain it still wake.
- Tests for restored-session modes, rejected model/mode, failed replacement,
missing release files and container capture selection.
- Website: seven coding agents; clarify the Instant download FAQ.

Restored-session mode tests: TestAntigravityStartupMapsSAMPermissionModes now runs every mode for new and restored (session/load) sessions.
Snapshot fixture: the restore-acceptance archive includes .gemini/antigravity/bin/webm_encoder and .config/antigravity/….
Container capture: the container HOME inventory test covers the helper (excluded), the secret store (excluded) and the conversation database (kept).
Empty permission mode: maps to default, tested for new and restored sessions.
SetSessionMode failure: fatal for Antigravity.
Not changing:
Playwright credential submission: the connect form and PUT /api/credentials/agent are the generic catalog flow already covered for the other agents. Antigravity adds only a catalog entry and a provider mark, and staging verified the real submit (201) end to end.
Plan mode: Antigravity 1.4.5 has no read-only mode. default asks before every action, which is the closest safe mapping, and the agents guide says so.
XDG_CONFIG_HOME: SAM does not set it in workspaces, so the store is under ~/.config/antigravity.
Plugin secrets after wake: SAM does not configure Antigravity plugins. Authentication comes from GEMINI_API_KEY on every start, and wake was verified on staging.
.gemini/antigravity/bin: Antigravity unpacks these helpers on every launch (observed on the real binary). Staging verified wake from a snapshot without them.
antigravity-acp/settings.json: authentication reads the key from GEMINI_API_KEY; SAM writes no credential file.

Summary
Adds Google Antigravity (
google-antigravity) as a SAM agent, using Gemini models with a Gemini API key. Gemini CLI stays as it is.Antigravity only offers its Claude and GPT models to ACP clients it recognises by

The download is about 320 MB and unpacks to about 1 GB, so it is not baked into the Instant image; both runtimes install it on first use through the existing install gate. The Instant image gains onlyunzip. The installer keeps the working release until the new one is in place and sweeps stages left by killed installs. A real run takes about 10 s.Snapshots:
.gemini/antigravity/bin(a 17 MB helper Antigravity unpacks into HOME) is excluded from capture only..config/antigravity, its plugin secret store, is restore-rejecting. Conversations in.gemini/antigravity-acpare kept, soLoadSessionworks after wake.Throughput (rule 81): the install is one bounded download plus unzip. Worst case is about 320 MB at the slowest realistic node bandwidth, tens of seconds, and it happens once per container.
I/O budget: no API route changes. Antigravity uses the generic agent catalog, credential and settings paths, so there are no new D1 or DO calls.
Marketing surfaces: after staging answered real prompts, Antigravity was added to the integrations page (new
google-antigravityentry), compare, roadmap and idea-execution lists.Live steering: Antigravity 1.4.5 does not advertise
_session/steering, so SAM's existing fallback applies: a steered message is recordedqueued_fallback(adapter_does_not_advertise_steering) and delivered as the next turn. No code change was needed; the agents guide says so.Validation
