Account Map: see how projects, chats and machines connect - #2545
Raphaël picked prototype direction B, "Connections", for the Account Map: "I like B better. It's more of a fun thing than a useful thing. Ship it." The old React Flow graph collapsed into one thin, unreadable line on a real account (38 projects, 90 tasks). This PR replaces it with three columns:
Projects → chats and tasks → machines, joined by SVG lines measured from the rendered rows (ConnectionsColumns.tsx). There is no layout engine. Lines follow wrapping titles and window resizes.
Pick anything and its chain lights up. A path bar spells the chain out, and each step links to its page: project, idea, chat or task, workspace, machine, pull request (ConnectionsPath.tsx). On load, the map picks the first chat waiting on you.
Filters: Everything / Needs you / Live, search, and Show finished (activeOnly=false).
Below 1024px the view is a list grouped by project, with the picked chat's chain shown inline (ConnectionsList.tsx).
Data: a pure model (connections-model.ts) merges each chat with its task so each piece of work appears once, and groups machine-less (Instant) workspaces under one "No machine" entry. Fetching moves to TanStack Query with identity-scoped keys (lib/query-options/account-map.ts).
API (GET /api/account-map) now passes two fields it already read and then dropped. There is no new D1 or DO I/O; the route's round-trips are unchanged.
Each chat's open attention marker ({kind, reason, createdAt}) is the real "needs you" signal.
Each task's outputPrUrl, https only. The client also runs it through sanitizeUrl.
The KV cache key moves v3 → v4, so old-shape payloads are never served to the new client. The existing 30s cache TTL also applies to attention markers. That is accepted: the map is an overview, and the attention and notification system is the authoritative channel.
Removed: the canvas, the six React Flow node components, the animated edge, useAccountMapData, useMapFilters, the toolbar and the prototype route. @xyflow/react and dagre stay because the workflow run graph uses them. The dagre helper moves beside it (pages/automation/workflows/dagre-layout.ts). The lazy-chunk audit now asserts that /account-map loads no xyflow chunk.
"Skip prod" is read as: no production feature testing after deploy. Staging, reviews and deploy monitoring still apply.

Staging Verification Evidence
Second staging round waived by Raphaël (2026-11-05 ~22:20Z): "I actually could not care less if you deploy this to staging. I want to see it in prod ASAP. It's just a fun thing so I don't really care if you test it in staging or not." He cancelled the redeploy of the CodeRabbit fixes (run 42119468979). The fixes after the first staging run (f447062, f90bbbc, 95ccd6d) are covered by unit tests (40) and the Playwright audit (28, including 1024px and light theme) only. The first staging run below verified the feature on real data.
Verified at 2026-11-05 20:59Z, deploy run 42105126672, on the smoke user's real account: 31 projects, 15 active chats, 32 tasks and 21 workspaces.
GET /api/account-map returned 200. Every session carries attention and every task carries outputPrUrl, so the new fields arrive.
Desktop (1280x800):
The columns render 47 work rows and 58 lines.
Picking a row lit 2 lines and filled the path bar (project link and task link). Following the task link opened /projects/…/tasks/…, and Back returned to the map.
Picking a machine showed its summary.
Live and Everything filters worked, and a non-matching search showed "No chats or tasks match."
Show finished requested activeOnly=false (200: 199 sessions, 200 tasks) and kept the map on screen meanwhile.
No horizontal overflow, in dark and light themes.
Phone (375x667): grouped list, the picked chat's chain opens inline, no overflow.
Zero console errors and zero failed API calls across all runs. Dashboard, projects, settings and nodes still load.
Real data showed 21 workspaces in stopping, 19 of them on nodes that no longer exist. The map had filed them under "No machine (Instant)". After staging I added a separate Machine gone entry with a red chip (f447062), and shortened the phone filter label to "All" because "Everything" truncated at 375px. Both are label and grouping changes covered by unit and Playwright tests (30 unit, 24 Playwright), and were not re-deployed: staging was handed to the next agent in the queue. The stuck workspaces themselves are a separate bug, filed as idea 01M6PRCGHPN7QM6BC9W4N08QT1.
UI Compliance Checklist (Required for UI changes)
Mobile-first layout verified
Accessibility checks completed (aria-pressed rows, labelled filter group with counts in names, 44px phone path targets, no opacity fading of text)
Shared UI components used (Pane, SegmentedControl, SearchField, Chip, Spinner, buttonClassName)
Playwright visual audit run locally

Screenshots reviewed for quality
UI Screenshot Evidence
All screenshots were taken with Playwright against the real /account-map page with mocked API data.
Mock/stress data used: a varied account (needs-you, working, idle, asleep and failed work; unresponsive, empty and Instant machines), long text (300-character names, 160-character unbroken branch, <script>, emoji, entities), many items (36 chats, 8 projects, 12 machines), an empty account, and a 500 error with retry.
Screenshot quality review: I reviewed every screenshot for layout, overflow, clipping, readability and responsive behaviour. I fixed these:
Tablet columns were too tight, so the list layout now applies below 1024px.
Provider names showed lowercase; they now use display labels.
The UI review found that faded rows dropped below 4.5:1 contrast. Rows now step back without opacity.
End-to-End Verification (Required for multi-component changes)
Data flow traced from user input to final outcome with code path citations
Capability test exercises the complete happy path across system boundaries
All spec/doc assumptions about existing behavior verified against code

Data Flow Trace
ProjectData.listSessions (durable-objects/project-data/session-reads.ts:enrichSessionRows → enrichWithAttention) already attaches attention to each session.
routes/account-map.ts narrows it with toAttentionSummary and filters outputPrUrl with toHttpsUrl (from listAgentActivityTasks).
Tests: apps/api/tests/unit/routes/account-map.test.ts (passthrough and guards, each proven discriminating by removing the guard), apps/web/tests/unit/components/account-map/connections-model.test.ts, apps/web/tests/unit/pages/account-map.test.tsx (real QueryClient and model; selection, links, filters, Show finished keeping the old map visible mid-fetch, phone list), apps/web/tests/playwright/account-map-audit.spec.ts (line endpoints asserted against measured row edges).
Untested Gaps
Real-account rendering was verified on staging. The later "Machine gone" grouping and phone label changes are covered by tests only (see Staging Verification Evidence).

Constitution & Risk Check
Principle XI: no new hardcoded limits or URLs. Links come from route helpers, and the 1024px layout breakpoint is a named constant.
Risks:
The 30s-stale attention marker in the KV cache (accepted).
Agent-reported PR URLs are https-filtered on the server and sanitized on the client; host validation is tracked as an idea.
Removing the old map's free layout and type chips is a deliberate UX change that Raphaël approved via the prototype.
Dev-only route /prototype/account-map with ?v=a|b and ?scene=normal|busy|empty.
A, Right now: what needs you, then each machine as a box holding its workspaces and agents.
B, Connections: projects -> chats and tasks -> machines with lines; picking anything lights its chain.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Replace the React Flow graph with three columns (projects -> chats and
tasks -> machines) joined by measured SVG lines. Picking any item lights
its chain and spells it out with links (project, idea, chat or task,
workspace, machine, PR). Phones get a per-project list with the chain
inline. Data moves to TanStack Query with identity-scoped keys.
The API now passes each chat's open attention marker (waiting on you)
and the task's https PR URL; the KV cache key moves to v4.
Removes the prototype route, the canvas, node/edge components and old
hooks. The dagre helper moves beside the workflow run graph, its only
remaining user.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Rows that are not part of the picked chain step back with no fill and
muted text instead of opacity, so text keeps 4.5:1 on the glass.
- Failed work gets red lines; amber stays reserved for waiting on you.
- The picked chat's workspace is highlighted inside its machine.
- Phones and tablets get the quiet projects toggle the columns have.
- Path steps are 44px tap targets on phones and show full text on hover.

Walkthrough
The Account Map changes from a React Flow graph to a responsive connections view. The update adds session attention and validated task pull-request URLs to the API data, derives connections and filters, and adds list, column, and path presentations with updated tests and documentation.
Changes: Account Map Connections View
Layer / File(s)
Summary
API data and cache version apps/api/src/routes/account-map.ts, apps/api/tests/unit/routes/account-map.test.ts, apps/web/src/lib/api/projects.ts
The API response includes validated session attention and HTTPS task pull-request URLs. The cache version changes to v4, with tests for the new fields and cache keys.
Connections model and query data apps/web/src/components/account-map/connections-model.ts, apps/web/src/lib/query-options/*, apps/web/tests/unit/components/account-map/*
The model derives work states, machine groupings, filters, edges, and selection chains. Query options and shared fixtures support the data flow; unit tests cover model construction, filtering, and selection chains.
The page uses query-backed connections data, responsive layouts, filters, search, and loading and error states. The prior graph canvas, toolbar, hooks, nodes, and animated edge are removed. Project route builders are added.
Page and browser tests cover responsive layouts, selection, filtering, loading, errors, and overflow. The guide and staging check describe or exercise the new view. The workflow graph imports its local Dagre helper, and Account Map audit expectations are updated.
The new map can retain outdated activity, omit work or infrastructure, and mislabel machine states. Sessionless task links lose their destination, and columns can be clipped near the desktop breakpoint. Resolve these functional gaps before merging unless their limitations are explicitly accepted.

Add producer-to-route coverage for the new fields.
The mocked route test does not detect a regression where listAgentActivityTasks omits outputPrUrl or ProjectData omits attention. The producer tests cover each projection separately, but no test composes the real producers with /account-map. Add that composition test as regression protection. This is a coverage improvement, not an explicit testing-contract violation.

CodeRabbit nitpick (composition test with the real producers): not applied, on purpose. The route tests mock their services by design. Each producer already has its own tests: enrichWithAttention / getAttentionSummary in the ProjectData tests, and listAgentActivityTasks selecting output_pr_url. Composing the real ProjectData Durable Object and D1 into the route test would need the workers harness for a field passthrough. The staging run covered the real composition end to end: every session carried attention and every task carried outputPrUrl from the live producers (see Staging Verification Evidence).

Summary
Raphaël picked prototype direction B, "Connections", for the Account Map: "I like B better. It's more of a fun thing than a useful thing. Ship it." The old React Flow graph collapsed into one thin, unreadable line on a real account (38 projects, 90 tasks). This PR replaces it with three columns:
ConnectionsColumns.tsx). There is no layout engine. Lines follow wrapping titles and window resizes.ConnectionsPath.tsx). On load, the map picks the first chat waiting on you.activeOnly=false).ConnectionsList.tsx).connections-model.ts) merges each chat with its task so each piece of work appears once, and groups machine-less (Instant) workspaces under one "No machine" entry. The client also runs it throughsanitizeUrl.v3 → v4, so old-shape payloads are never served to the new client. The existing 30s cache TTL also applies to attention markers. That is accepted: the map is an overview, and the attention and notification system is the authoritative channel.Removed: the canvas, the six React Flow node components, the animated edge,

The stuck workspaces themselves are a separate bug, filed as idea 01M6PRCGHPN7QM6BC9W4N08QT1.UI Compliance Checklist (Required for UI changes)

Real-account rendering was verified on staging. The later "Machine gone" grouping and phone label changes are covered by tests only (see Staging Verification Evidence).
