The full test suite has failed three times since 2 November with Disk quota exceeded on /tmp, about 85 seconds into the run (in #503, #504 and a CodeQL digest bump). Each time a different Python version failed, and a re-run passed. Before 2 November there were no such failures, which lines up with ubuntu-latest moving to the 26.04 image.

Measured locally, the suite's temp files peak around 1.75 GB:

  • pytest keeps every test's tmp_path until the session ends.
  • The docs-build tests each leave a 200–400 MB virtualenv inside theirs.

This sets TMPDIR: ${{ runner.temp }} on the fast and full test steps. pytest's tmp_path, copier's template clones and anything else that uses tempfile then go to the runner's work disk, which is emptied between jobs. Python reads TMPDIR before TEMP on every OS, so the Windows and macOS legs move too.

test_repo_workflows.py, test_github_workflows.py, test_security_hardening.py and the pre-commit hooks pass locally.
