KingHost (https://king.host) is a Brazilian hosting provider. Customer domains
hosted with us use MX records under kinghost.net (direct customers, e.g.
mx-vip-01.kinghost.net) or uni5.net (reseller network, e.g. mx-vip-01.uni5.net),
so these entries are meant to be matched through the MX lookup.

Settings (identical for both networks, hostnames differ):

  • IMAP: imap.:993 SSL, username = full e-mail address
  • SMTP: smtp.:465 SSL, username = full e-mail address

Both hosts present valid public TLS certificates. We also serve the same data
at https://autoconfig.kinghost.net/mail/config-v1.1.xml?emailaddress=

.

Hi @andreluiscastillo, thanks for your PR!

As explained in our documentation, clients like Thunderbird should be able to find autoconfig files by using the value of the MX record as a base. Following your example, hosting autoconfig files at https://autoconfig.kinghost.net/mail/config-v1.1.xml (which you already do) and https://autoconfig.uni5.net/mail/config-v1.1.xml should be enough, without needing an entry in ISPDB.

Is there a specific reason why this setup wouldn't work for you?

Hi, thanks for the review!

You're right — Thunderbird already works for our customers via the MX-based lookup on autoconfig.kinghost.net. We'll also fix HTTPS on autoconfig.uni5.net, which is currently misconfigured.
Our main motivation was other clients that don't perform that lookup themselves. In particular, the new Outlook resolves settings through Microsoft's cloud AutoDetect service, which returns wrong servers for domains hosted with us (e.g. stale GoDaddy settings), and we suspect it relies on ISPDB as one of its sources. Having kinghost.net/uni5.net in ISPDB would give those clients a reliable fallback for thousands of customer domains whose MX points to us.

That said, if the policy is to only include providers whose MX-based autoconfig doesn't work, we understand — feel free to close it.

For what it's worth, we're not aware of Microsoft's autodiscover service using ISPDB as a fallback and I'd be surprised if that was the case. I suspect incorrect configuration might come from extra DNS lookups and hardcoded configurations for major hosting providers.
