Summary

  • Start page first screen (≥768px wide, ≥640px high): the hero is centred vertically, "How it works" sits at the bottom edge, and a quiet arrow scrolls on to "What it can and cannot do" (focus moves to that heading; no smooth scrolling with reduced motion). Tighter spacing for laptop heights so the arrow stays visible at 1366×768. Phones keep the plain flow.
  • Sidebar toggle on the desktop: a plain sidebar icon at the right end of the top bar shows and hides the list of changes (before: only from the View menu). Tablets keep the "List" button for the sheet.
  • Current change in blue: the current paragraph, its list card and its overview marker use the selection blue instead of a grey fill.
  • Reviewed changes look done instead of faded: accepted wording reads as plain text with a green edge (removed words stay quietly struck through on the old side); rejected paragraphs get a solid neutral edge and the ✗ in the text colour. Only colours change, nothing moves.
  • Faster start: PDF.js and Mammoth (~1 MB of JavaScript) are embedded as non-executed text and started on the first PDF or Word import instead of on every page load (~70 ms on a fast laptop, several times that on a phone). Still one self-contained, offline file.

Test plan

  • python3 scripts/build.py and node scripts/check.mjs (new check: both libraries embedded as non-executed text)
  • Start page at 1366×768, 1440×900, 1920×1080; arrow click scrolls and focuses
  • Sidebar icon: hide and show at 1440; both columns stay equal width; tablet still uses the sheet
  • Accepted / rejected / current change in dark and light mode
  • PDF (left) and DOCX (right) imported in the browser: libraries not running before, started on first use, comparison correct, original-format source kept
  • Real phone / Safari

- Start page: on screens from 768px wide and 640px high, the hero sits
centred in the first screen with "How it works" at its bottom edge and
an arrow on to the rest (tighter spacing on laptop heights). Phones keep
  the plain flow.
- Desktop: the "List 20" button in the top bar shows and hides the docked
list of changes, and the list header has a collapse button. Before, the
list could only be hidden from the View menu.
- The current change is marked in the selection blue (edge and a light
tint) instead of grey, which read as "disabled"; the same in the list
  and the overview bar.

- Accepted: the new wording reads as plain text with a green edge (the
removed words stay quietly struck through on the old side); before, it
turned grey and looked disabled. Rejected: a solid neutral edge instead
of a dotted one, and the ✗ in the text colour. Only colours change.
- Desktop: a sidebar icon at the right end of the top bar shows and hides
the list of changes, instead of the "List 20" button and a second
button in the list header. Tablets keep the "List" button for the sheet.

Both readers (about 1 MB of JavaScript) were compiled and run on every
page load, before the start page could paint, although only PDF and Word
imports need them. They are now embedded as non-executed text, like the
PDF.js worker, and started on first use. The page stays one self-contained
file and still works offline.

Starting them takes about 70 ms on a fast laptop (several times that on a
phone); that time is now off the page load.

Between 640 and about 750 px of window height the hero and "How it works"
did not fit, so the arrow sat below the fold and the steps were cut off.
Below 760 px the start page now stays a plain flow, as before.
