Summary

Side by side, unchanged paragraphs could wrap differently on the two sides, because the new version's text column was up to 42px narrower:

  • only the right clauses reserved the 44px gutter for the review marks (left: 14px);
  • only the right pane showed a scrollbar (the left one is hidden), e.g. 12px on Windows or with "always show scrollbars";
  • the right pane's 1px divider took up width.

Both sides now reserve the same gutter and scrollbar space (the left scrollbar is transparent; the panes scroll in sync), and the divider is an inset shadow. check.mjs guards these rules.

Row alignment (same top and height for every row) was already correct and is unchanged.

Test plan

  • Measured in the browser with the sample (33 rows, 11 unchanged paragraphs), line by line, at 1024, 1440, 1920 and 2560px: before, 2 of 11 unchanged paragraphs wrapped differently at 1440px (text width 465 vs 423px); after, text width is equal at every size, every unchanged paragraph wraps identically and every row has the same top and height on both sides
  • python3 scripts/build.py and node scripts/check.mjs; the new check fails on the old CSS

…dentically

Side by side, the new version's text column was up to 42px narrower than
the old one: only the right clauses reserved the review gutter, only the
right pane showed a scrollbar, and its divider took 1px. Unchanged
paragraphs therefore wrapped differently on the two sides.

Both sides now reserve the same gutter and scrollbar space (invisible on
the left), and the divider is drawn without taking up width. A check in
check.mjs guards these rules.
