Vertex turns file conversion into a single gesture. Hold Shift while dragging any file in Windows to summon a radial wheel at your cursor, then drop the file onto the format you want.

Usage

Action	Result
Shift + Drag a file	Open the radial wheel at cursor position
Hover over a slice	Highlight the target format
Hover on ... (~250ms)	Go to the next page of formats
Drop onto a format slice	Start conversion immediately
Drop onto ... slice	Go to the next page of formats
Release Shift or drag away	Close the wheel without converting

Converted files are saved automatically in the same folder as the original file.

For video inputs, video formats appear first. Hover over … to reach the audio formats: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A, OGG, OPUS, AIFF, WMA. FFmpeg is required to extract the first audio track.

To launch Vertex automatically when you sign in to Windows, open Advanced settings → General → Start with Windows. The toggle applies immediately. Vertex starts hidden in the system tray.

The wheel reports missing conversion tools. PDF image export renders the first page at the configured DPI; CSV/TSV workbook export uses the first sheet. HEIC and SVG are input formats. See conversion behavior and dependencies for exact routes and constraints.

PDF → Word reconstructs editable text and tables while retaining supported formatting and images. Complex layouts and missing fonts can change the result; scanned pages need OCR first. TXT cannot retain rich formatting. UTF-8 and UTF-16 text with a BOM are supported without silently replacing invalid characters.

Office documents and templates can export to PDF, DOC, DOCX, DOTX, ODT, OTT, FODT, RTF, HTML and TXT. DOCM, DOT, DOTM, SXW, WPS (Microsoft Works), WPD (WordPerfect) and WRI (Microsoft Write) are input formats. Macros are disabled; preserving macros is not supported. Text aliases include NFO/ASC, Markdown aliases include MDOWN/MKD/MDWN, and XHTML/XHT use the HTML converter.

Installation

Vertex runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11.

1. Download the latest installer from Releases.
2. Run the installer and launch Vertex.
3. Hold Shift while dragging any file to start converting.

Note

Video and audio conversion requires FFmpeg on your system.

Build from source

Prerequisites: Rust (latest stable toolchain), Node.js 18+.

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/rainaku/Vertex.git
   cd Vertex

2. Install frontend dependencies:

   cd frontend
   npm install
   cd ..

3. Launch in development mode using PowerShell:

   ./r

   Or run Tauri directly:

   cargo tauri dev

4. Build the release binary and installer:

   cargo tauri build

   The compiled installer will be located in target/release/bundle/.

Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

Vertex is built to be local-first and transparent about system access:

• Terms of Service (Tiếng Việt): Guidelines on using official releases, open-source rights under Apache 2.0, local conversion safety, and update signature integrity.
• Privacy Policy (Tiếng Việt): Detailed documentation of local device access (file conversion, Shift key and mouse drag hooks) and network requests (update checking via GitHub Releases). Vertex does not collect personal data, telemetry, or user analytics.
